Help with Skyraiders
MaverickMike replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well tbh LT I was inspired by your awesome DiD campaign and decided I wanted to try and fly the SPAD in a campaign of my own. I didnt fancy Vietnam, hence the modding of burning sands. -
Help with Skyraiders
MaverickMike replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just had a look at the ini and they are set at 0. I downloaded Spinners skyraider .GA3 mod and it is doing the same. Maybe its a problem with the feb 10 patches? Has anyone flown skyraiders post feb 10 patching? Mike -
Why have some modders gone to payware?
MaverickMike replied to Dogzero1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ok. I havent bought any payware as of yet not because I dont agree with it but because nothing I have seen thus far is of my own personal interest. I was tempted by YAP2 but Ill have to give it a little thought. I think modders should definately charge for their work if they feel the need to. Especially if it is costing them to make it. Take NF4 and the ODS mods. Personally I would have been quite happy to pay for them simply because of the amount of work they must have been to create. Mike -
Why have some modders gone to payware?
MaverickMike replied to Dogzero1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
One aspect of this topic that interests me is the copyright law. If for example a modder releases an aircraft as payware and then another releases exactly the same aircraft as freeware, does the payware modder have the right to ask for the freeware model to be removed from a hosting site? Mike -

Flying home in my hornet in ODS and I was cycling through the friendly and enemy aircraft when I spotted a pretty good dogfight. Iraqi F-7 vs F-15C. I put my aircraft on autopilot and sat back and watched. Couldnt believe who the winner was.... -
Exactly my point. Crime should be dealt with as harshly and severly as possible. It makes an example out of the criminal and makes other people think twice about commiting the act. Mike
-
I think if that were the case then people would think twice about breaking in. I dont mean punishable by death I mean the person living at the house should have the right to use lethal force. As I said earlier the person doing the stealing has made a choice to be there. Good honest folk usually end up coming off worse when dealing with people like these. Mike
-
Im all for using lethal force. At the end of the day the person who is attacking you, your family or breaking into your house etc has made a choice to do those things. Yourself, your family or anyone innocent getting in the way did not. The UK justice system is a complete joke as I have said many times. check this link out those of you who use facebook http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=34344572356 Just another typical example of the sort of people we have in our country... The Double D's
MaverickMike replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey LT. Could you post a screenie of your pilot record? I dont think iv ever seen one as good as yours. I gave up on this DiD campaign long ago. Kept dying lol. Although I still do fly using the DiD rules. Im currently flying for the VFA-115 Eagles in the new War for Israel mod. My pilot has flown 3 missions and has 12AA kills! Mike -
Eraser i also had the same problem before xmas. Gallstones are a bitch and one sunday, I had finished work and had what I thought was indigestion. It gradually got worse until the pain was just incredible. Most definately the worst pain I have ever experienced. My dad took me down the a + e department and the docs took one look, next thing I knew I was being whisked off to a room to have morphine and various other drugs inserted via IV. I was diagnosed after a variety of bloodtests and scans with gallstones. But also the doctor was unhappy with another aspect of the scan so sent me for more tests a few weeks ago. Turns out I also have abnormal liver function. I am currently in the process of finding out why and have an appointment next week... Fingers crossed it aint serious but as you said, always go to the docs at the slightest problem Mike

Friend or foe?
MaverickMike replied to andqui's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I know this technique isnt realistic but if im flying some of the older birds (F-4, F-105 etc) that dont have TWS, when I lock a target i press ctrl + r and it visually targets the aircaft you have locked up. -

Drop tank procedure
MaverickMike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I recently started an F-18F campaign in the awesome war for israel mod. It got me thinking about RL drop tank procedures on carrier based aircraft. As I have no idea about this topic I have a few questions for anyone in the know... Firstly do they simply drop them once they are used or do they bring them back? The added weight must make a difference on landing? Secondly when they do jettison tanks do they have designated tank drop zones or can they just drop anywhere. Once dropped are they recovered or just left? In relation to the second question, what if they are over land, in a combat environment and are about to enter a dogfight? Cheers for any help Mike -
Drop tank procedure
MaverickMike replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Didnt realise this was possible to do. Would it be difficult for me to give this ability back to the aircraft? Im thinking of editing the campaign im flying so that the squadron im flying with are based at an airbase rather than a carrier so this ability could be useful. Although I have limited knowledge of modding aircraft would you mind telling me how its done? Im ok with ini editing but i have no idea when it comes to 3d modelling or lod files etc. Cheers Mike -

As a side note I tried landing the superbug on its tanks yesterday but the sim doesn't model this very weel and I ended up a hole in center of the runway. Oh well... -
Drop tank procedure
MaverickMike replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ye i knew it would affect the aircraft drag and sink rate. I just didnt think it would affect it that much. Does anyone know off the top of their head how much an empty 480gal tank weighs? -
Drop tank procedure
MaverickMike replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I guess with the current operations there isnt any need to drop tanks due to air threats. I wonder what the policy would be in a dogfight situation.... Id like to hear the RAFs policy aswell if you could HotNess. Be interesting to find out As a side note those tanks do make a difference to carrier landings. Twice I have returned from a mission and potched the landing, the aircraft seems to sink alot quicker. (its most probably my error of judgement ) -

Frame rate issues
MaverickMike replied to andqui's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Another thing you could try is the ENBseries modification there is a big topic in the forums on it regarding the thirdwire sims but i cant seem to find a link. Here is a link to an OFF topic regarding this mod and it has a download link for the mod there aswell. http://forum.combatace.com/topic/50963-the-enb-series-bloom-and-hdr-mod/ Be aware though that some machines only register a small improvement while others have a major one. Hope this helps Mike -

How not to help someone...
MaverickMike replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have gotta be honest and say anytime Iv ever asked for help on this forum, someone has answered my question. Usually within a few hours of posting. I agree with you on the basis that, the people asking the questions are usually new to the games and the people answering them are usually old hands that have most probably answered the question before. I guess its only natural the older guys get a bit Pi**ed off with it. The KB on this site is simply brlliant and its a shame to see it not being used. Hopefully this topic will change that Mike
