Has anyone seen the news lately about the plan to raise an international fund to use to 'buy off' taliban leaders and potential soldiers. Personally I think this is an absoloute joke. These people fight for what they believe in and the true 'believers' are never going to give up the fight for money. I find it incredible that the government of this country are so happy to commit millions to this fund, from a country that is in recession, rather than using it to buy better equipment for the troops, or even give it to families who have lost loved ones in the conflict. (Im referring to the UK here as I have no idea what goes on in other countries in relation to this) Does anyone else think this idea SUCKS bigtime? Mike

Only on the CA forum can a topic go from bribing taliban to the spanish inquisition This place is great

Damn those harriers are badass KillerBee -
The most stupid thing of all is how can they prove what the taliban are spending the bribe money on? Most probably weapons to continue fighting us.

I noticed this problem while flying the saber aswel. If you skip to the next waypoint (alt+n) when you arrive at the waypoint you are doing the speed that it says IE 800+Knots. -
Hmm. Couple of good ideas there. Might be worth trying

I think, while its important to try and keep your target market happy, that there are so many things TK could improve or add into the game that it would be impossible to please everyone. Maybe (if he has the intention of improving the game based on users feedback) then he should put up a poll on the TW forums and see where that takes us. At the moment, I think the TW sims at their baseline level. TK has built a sturdy game engine with the best game moddability I have seen in a sim (or 'lite' sim as he prefers to call it )Things can only get better from here Mike -

I was recently having a drink with an old school buddy of mine who is currently serving in the british army and has seen action in both Iraq and Afghanistan. It wasnt long before the subject of the war came up and without quite realising what I was saying (alcohol may have influenced my words) I went on and told him that all the troops should be brought home and that we should just leave them to it. His reply was to look my straight in the eyes and say 'what about the guys who have died there? If we pull out now, wouldnt their deaths mean absoloutely nothing?' I was left dumbfounded because, I simply didnt have an answer. This conversion made me realise that no matter what us civilians think, its the thoughts of soldiers that should matter the most. I already had the greatest of respect for the guy but my opinion of him went through the roof at that moment. Imagine how difficult it must be seeing friends shot and blown up, civilians caught in the crossfire and the general feeling of being in a warzone, knowing that some of the people at home do not support what you are doing. I know fully support the war. Is there anyone here that shares my views, or if you oppose them please let me know. It would be interesting to hear other peoples thoughts on the matter... Mike

The Double D's

Well my latest pilot seems to be faring pretty well, having just made ace. These are the debrief screens from my latest mission. We were scrambled (although it was classed as a Sweep) and the enemy were right on top of us as soon as i took off. I went after the first aircraft I seen which happened to be a MiG-21. I got led into a turning battle with him and tbh thought this was the end of yet another pilot. In my desperation I hit full burner and went down into the mountains in an effort to lose him. he stayed on my tail throughout the entire time but, knowing I had a speed advantage I was gradually pulling away. He fired both his missiles but they just exploded harmlessly behind me. By this time my wingman was in the air and managed to get onto the MiG's tail at which point he broke off chasing me to avoid my wingman. I took the opportunity to attempt to get back on his tail but the pilot was just brilliant. He managed to evade both my wingman and my offensive manouvers to get onto his tail for the best part of 15 mins but then he did something really stupid. while in a long right turn with both my wingman and I chasing him, he reversed his turn and went straight into my line of fire. I despatched him with a few short bursts. I had three kills 2 hunters and the MiG-21 by the end of the mission and became an ace! P.S sorry for not posting details about earlier missions but Iv been so into flying them that I forgot the details.... -
Spike!

As I said earlier the 2nd gen sims seem to be ok with me. My wingman break and manouver to lose the lock but they usually rejoin automatically... Maybe it has something to do with the type of aircraft, skills of the wingman, type of ordnance on the aircraft etc? Mike -

Iv gotta be honest here and say that, although I knew oil was involved in it all, Iv never looked at it from thids point of view. What your saying GwynO makes perfect sense. By doing what you are saying it would be like opening another front on the war, one that we would have more control over than the conventional war. Ezcellent points GwynO, convincing politicians to tsake up this idea is what we should all be working toward.

Spike!
MaverickMike replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Are you using first or second gen sims? I noticed in the second gen sims that my wingies shout 'spike' then manouver to break the lock and then rejoin the formation. Mike -
Who knew P-3's were so threatening?

I may be slightly off topic but I believe the financial meltdown was a direct result of 9/11. All the politicians etc said that the 9/11 attacks would not have an effect on the economy, yet 8 years later there is a global meltdown that was completely unforseen. Mike -
I completely agree 100%. Instead they were given measly fines if im not mistaken. The way these animals treated the soldiers was absoloutely disgusting, yet its the very thing that the soldiers are sworn to defend, freedom of speech. I sometimes think communism had the right idea.....
