This story is exactly the point I ws trying to raise in the first place. This lady is obviously highly influenced by the press. I bet that she has no idea of the good things that soldiers do. Indeed if it wasnt for past soldiers then maybe she would'nt have the freedom of speech to be able to call a member of the armed services a murderer. I just hope that the majority of other people do not begin to come around to this persons way of thinking. Mike

F4J Heading out to kick some vietnamese warehouse workers ass! -
As the topic name suggests im wondering if there are any mods that give aircraft carrier lights. Im finding it quite a pain in the rear end to land on a carrier at night as they are quite difficult to spot from far enough away to begin a proper approach (SF2:V). If such a mod exists could someone point me in the right direction? Cheers Mike

Do you think UAV's should replace pilots?
MaverickMike replied to scouserlad13's topic in Military and General Aviation
I think a quote from the Matrix is relevant here. "They are governed by rules, because of that they can never be as strong or as fast as you can be". (cant remember it word for word lol) In other words untill (as mentioned earlier) we have true AI that can react to different situations as they arise, instead of reacting in a pre-programmed way based on the programming that was inserted into it at creation, pilots will always be better to have in the thick of the action. Remote controlled on the other hand is very useful. But this still has its limitations. If im correct I believe there is a slight delay in the transmission of directions to a uav as the data is sent to a satellite and then beamed to the UAV. This could cause problems when using the UAV to attack targets in a civilian area. Mike -

Ok will do. Ill try and get some of them up here 2moro as im off work. Gotta say though its the first big airshow I have been to and personally, i thought it was truly amazing. I went along with my father, two brothers and uncle and we have all said that we will be going to RIAT 10 next year without a doubt. Highlight of the show for me was definately the vulcan. It was just awe-inspiring watching that graceful bird in the air. Fu***ng BRILLIANT!!!!!!! Mike -

Yeah the orange f-16 was awesome. According to the commentary he pulled a few 9g turns during the show. I have pics of the Vulcan taxiing and the b-52 with the drag chute deployed on landing but I can't upload them cos they are too big. Even tried it one by one and I can't even upload a single pic. All UK servicemen/women that are KIA are brought back to RAF lyneham. The funeral precession then drives through the small town of Wootton Bassett. Every time a soldier is brought home the people of this small town line the streets and pay their respects to the fallen. It is truly moving to see all the people of this town standing on the streets and giving the soldiers the respect they deserve. Mike

I remember seeing a news broadcast at the beginning of the current operation where a journalist was standing next to an armoured vehicle and he blatantly said which FOB they were at and that the troops behind him where getting ready to move out to this particular area to clear out the suspected taliban stronghold. (sorry guys can't remember the exact details) I sat there stunned, WHAT MORE OF A WARNING DO THE TALIBAN NEED!!!!!!!! Mike
-
Thats exactly my point. Given that the troops have been given shoddy equipment the death toll should be much higher, the reason that it isnt the case is because of the training, discipline and hard work of the troops, yet the media are more concerned with the negative aspects than publicly praising the troops, typical example is the 15 killed this week. this sounds bad when said this way, yet if the media gave a counterbalance to this statement saying how many taliban were killed or captured it would make it that much better. I think if the general public are not aware of the situation and are only watching or reading what the media are saying then they will begin to turn against the war. I really hope this does not happen. Mike
-
I just can't understand why attempt to turn people against the military. Personally i think it should'nt be allowed. They always seem to show the negative part of the war i.e. how many soldiers have been killed today, and not the positive thing they are doing. Mike
-
I hope i dont start a political argument here. If this is the case moderators can delete Having recently watched the news and a topic about the war in afghanistan im beginning to the think the media are trying to turn people against this war. The more of this im seeing the more the media seem to have a negative attitude (in Britain at least) toward what our boys are doing out there. With the economic situation the way it is maybe it would be better to bring the lads home, but that would be completely ridiculous. I believe we went out there to do a job and we should finish it. According to survey results released by the media earlier 80% of people questioned believed we should bring the soldiers home. I personally find this disgusting. The way the media carry are carrying on they will turn this war into another vietnam and have people turning on the soldiers. Just wondering whether or not this is the same in the U.S? Mike

"the only thing that is stopping me, is my parents. I dont want to let them down. " Though your parents do not like the thought of you joining the marines, im sure they will support your decision. Eventually they will be proud of what you have achieved. I can't imagine any parents not being proud watching their son/daughter passing out . Mike

I just returned from what was definately the most exhilarating flight ive ever flown. Again in NF. Im flying the CF-18 hornet for 439 sqd and was tasked with a CAP over hamburg. arriving on station red crown sent my flight of 4 to attack another flight of 4 su-17 which we took out relatively easily as there seemed to be no escorts. Suddenly out of nowhere came a flight of 4 mig-29s led by a major (cannot remember the name)who whas an ace. I quickly positioned myself off the tail of one that went straight for my wingman and took him out with 20mm.(I had expended all missiles at this point on the su-17s) My wingie reported that he was hit so i sent him home. no 3 scored another mig kill and called winchester. no 4 then also scored a kill. That was three of the four down with only one loss. However the enemy flight leader was still around so i sent my remaining flight members home and stayed to look for him. After around 10 mins I found him trying to take out a flight of Harriers that were providing CAS to the ground assault that was in progress. it took a few minutes to get onto his tail and as soon as i was in gun range i opened up. However i just could not seem to hit him as he was jinking like a madman. Suddenly a sidewinder flew past my aircraft and took him out from a german f4 arriving late into the fray!!! Couldnt believe it. Anyways after noticing that i had no ammo left i turned for home, then, again out of nowhere a flight of 2 Mig-31s showed up!!! One was taken out by the german f4s whilst the other got on my tail. I dove for the weeds and pushed the throttles to full mil power but this guy was simply relentless. He followed me all the way home firing all of his heaters at me. I managed to avoid them all and a few bursts of cannon. I truly thought I had bought it at this point because I also noticed my fuel was alarmingly low after chasing the major earlier. Trying to think of a way i could get home safely I decided to carry on towards home and hope he would give up. He didnt. Arriving at my airbase he was still on my tail so i decided to rely on the AA fire to take him out. I slowed down to around 200kts and flew over the airbase at around 300ft agl. Sure enough he followed suit still trying to take me out. Luckily one of the vulcans took him out and i let out a deep sigh. I managed to land the aircraft safely and looking at my fuel, had 120 pounds left. WHEEW!!! Anyways just thought id share this with you guys as your on the topic of immersion. Let me tell you, while flying at under 100ft at 550kts i think my house could have fallen down and I would not have noticed . I have a few screenies from this mission if anyone would like to see them? Mike
