lazboy replied to Emp_Palpatine's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I have recently added the readily available Mirage F1 to WOI only to discover a number of handling issues it would appear as though the FM needs amending to make it more stable in WOI, has anyone come up with a fix for this particular aircraft? Lazboy -
WOI - Mainscreen
lazboy replied to kout's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I have changed the image size back to its original dimensions and placed it in the menu folder of WOV but when I run the game I only get a black screen on which the hot keys do work but the background image does not appear, any clues as to what I have done wrong? Lazboy mainscreen_template.bmp -
WOI - Mainscreen
lazboy replied to kout's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Loved your new WOI main screen so thought that I would try and make a new mainscreen for WOV using your template as the existing one is looking somewhat dated unfortunately WOV seems to use a different DLL based menu format any ideas of how I can change it to look similar to the new WOI screen? -
From: Actual Air to Air Refuelling in YAP 2?
lazboy replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
When I started reading this thread I wondered how long it would be before the "Brains Trust" came up with a workable solution or managed to reverse engineer the problem, and as ever they haven't let us down!! -
Formosa Strait development progress
lazboy replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi Gepard some additional information as to the location of Chinese airbases in the vicinity of Taiwan can be found on the following website if you mouse over the entries on the maps on the website it provides additional information such as the type of aircraft located at each base. There are seperate entries and maps for air force and Naval air force bases: http://www.scramble.nl/cn.htm I have also located a website that shows the location of fixed Chinese SAM emplacements in the vicinty of Taiwan if that would be of use in preparing your terrain. Indeed it is a vast improvement over the stock screen, change that and the aweful music and we shall have a decent front end that does justice to the game. Lazboy -

According to a recent article that I read the first Hawk Battalion was deployed in Israel in March 1965 and that the first kill it acheived was an Israeli Ouragan. lAZBOY -
Terrain Editor notes etc.
lazboy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Is there a guide anywhere on getting started in making your own terrain using the terrain editor I have done a search and looked in the Knowledge Base and haven't as yet found any guidance on getting started or utilising the Terrain Editor? Thanks Lazboy -
Nato & Israeli air defences
lazboy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Having flown several low level stike missions in a Saudi Tornado deep into Israel in WOI and having only encountered very sporadic AAA I was once again reminded of the lack of NATO anti aircraft models in WOI and WOE compared to those of the former Warsaw Pact and the Arab nations. Is anyone currently working on any new air defence models such as Patriot? -

I wouldn't sweat it Craig I can't model anywhere near your level but am good at researchbut by no means an anorak. Th good thing about this community is that it brings together so many people with such diverse skills who then collaberatively produce some fantastic mods. Lazboy -
laser designator
lazboy replied to Bongodriver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
That is the PIRATE Sensor Craig see below: PIRATE Infrared Search and Track Eurofighters starting with Tranche 1 batch 5 will have the PIRATE (Passive Infra-Red Airborne Track Equipment) IRST (Infrared Search and Track System) which will be mounted on the port side of the fuselage, forward of the windscreen. The PIRATE system was developed by the EUROFIRST consortium. Galileo Avionica (FIAR) of Italy is the lead contractor, Thales Optronics of the UK (system technical authority) and Tecnobit of Spain make up EUROFIRST. PIRATE operates in two IR bands, 3-5 and 8-11 microns. When used with the radar in an air-to-air role, it functions as an Infrared Search and Track system (IRST), providing passive target detection and tracking. In an air-to-surface role, it performs target identification and acquisition. It also provides a navigation and landing aid. PIRATE is linked to the pilot’s helmet mounted display.[67] The first Eurofighter Typhoon with PIRATE-IRST was delivered to the Italian Aeronautica Militare in August 2007 -
WoI Historic Mods Thread
lazboy replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Well I certainly never envisaged being able to penetrate Israeli air defences at low level with such ease hit my intended target and return to base unmolested and I was never once painted by Hawks let alone anything as effective as a Patriot only some AAA. Had I flown a similar profile against an arab target it certainly would have been a different matter with tiers of air defences. Does a model of the Patriot exist as yet for use in WOI or WOE? lazboy -
WoI Historic Mods Thread
lazboy replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I've been flying a Saudi Tornado on a strike mission deep into the herat of Israel and am surprised at just how little AAA or israeli air defences there seem to be outside of the vicinity of airbases, especially at low level, air defence seems to rely of aerial interception. Is this a realistic reflection of actual israeli air defences or a failing of the game? Lazboy -

In the downloads section there is a unfinished model of the Mirage 2000 produced by Aleks which apparently has been downloaded 543 times has anyone who has downloaded it as yet managed to get it flyable in WOE as it would be useful to have a Mirage 2000 for use in WOI and the Straits of Formosa terrain, and it is one of the few gaps left in modern service aircraft? Just to let you know that I have successfully managed to load and run WOI from a 4gb USB stick without any difficulties giving me a fully portable installation which I can now plug into any PC or laptop and then fly with plenty of space left on the stick for addons and additional mods. Lazboy -
WOI arab planes
lazboy replied to kukulino's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The UAE Block 60 shows up alright and is flyable in WOI with out any fiddling about but appears as a "Friendly" meaning I can only ever fly it against Arab aircraft not against Israeli aircraft what do I need to change to get it reconised as an Arab aircraft? Lazboy
