  1. Also, smoke effects are limited by view distances. One distance setting can be edited, the other, is hardcoded in the .dll files. You'll notice that when fly far enough away from a burning object, the smoke will disappear. If you then fly back and look for the same object, you'll see that the smoke has ceased. This is hardcoded (probably for frame rates). So, in this case, irregardless of what you set the eject time or duration to, the object will stop emitting smoke as soon as one gets far enough away, and won't start up again, even if you get within spitting distance of it.
  2. It's not simply the DX10 graphics that make the SF2-series better than the first gen. There are quite a few refinements under the hood. The two that stand out the most are the multi-threaded coding (with the latest patch), and the improved avionics. The former bumps up frame rates quite a bit, and the latter includes both TEWS-RWR, and Vietnam-era vector-RWR displays.
  3. Sidney Lumet dies at the age of 86

My favorite Sidney Lumet film is/was/and always will be, "Prince of the City", a film that did not get the recognition it deserved, until almost a decade after it was released. "Q & A" was another Lumet masterpiece.
  4. No, and it's also not available with the SF2 series. Perhaps the upcoming F-14 title might introduce this, though that's more than likely to be a new sim, altogether.
  5. Try running the weapons editor from inside a .zip or .rar file.
  6. It's generally a good idea to back up your mods folder before you install a patch. For example, if you modded any of the TW AI-only aircraft (the MiGs, for example) to be player flyable, installing a patch will result in them being rendered AI-only again, as the patches overwrite the aircraft .ini files. By backing up your files, you'll be able to quickly render them flyable again.
  7. Craig Thomas dies at the age of 69

Wow....I first read Firefox about 2-3 years before the film was released, and read a few more of his novels, afterwords.
  8. HOLY CRAP! I FOUND PORKINS!

Sorry, but I have you beat by over 3 decades.....I worked for Porkins, or rather, Porkins was one of the shift foreman at a job I started at in 1977.... The Autumn after the release of Star Wars, I went to work for a transporation company. As I was new (and therefore the lowest man on the totum pole), I wound up turning wrenches on the Midnight-8AM shift, and the foreman on that shift (a fellow by the name of Gary) was a dead-ringer for Porkins. He was like 6'1", 300 lbs, same scruffy red beard, and often wore amber-tinted shades (it was the 1970s, afterall).
  9. Guess who's birthday it is?

Our very own Wrench has made it through another year....Happy Birthday, Kevin! If Baghdad Bob were still around, I'm sure that he'd honor you with the "Infidel of the month" award (yet again)
  10. In the bulletobjcet.ini, modify the following to INCREASE the tracer distance (and the lifespan of the round). [GunData] GunTypeList=GunData.dat BallisticData=G1.dat ArmingTime=5 MinBulletMach=0.3 <----Setting suggested by Stary, default is higher.
  11. Microwave Ovens...time for a rethink?

More BS from wacko alarmists. The cumulative radiation from cell phones held to one's ear (over a period of years) is many times more hazardous, yet you don't see anyone banning them.... A ferry boat captain once tried to sue the agency that owned the ferry boats that he operated, citing long term exposure to microwave radiation from the vessel's radar as the cause of various illnesses that he was experiencing. It was determined by the court (after consulting experts) that his lifestyle, not his job, was responsible for his maladies.
  12. The AI in both generations of this series, will not (and cannot) use thrust vectoring. Until such time that TK fixes this (which is unlikely to occur), Gepard's solution is the only one.
  13. Read the SF2 knowledge base. Everything's explained there.
  14. You could theoretically create a secondary gun, but the same caveat applies: No effect on IR or Radar seekers.
  15. It is possible to create a rocket pod that uses the chaff and flare effects (and sounds for each), but the game egine will not recognize them as IR or Radar decoys, so other than providing eye and ear candy, it would be pretty useless in game-play.
  16. The AIM-4 earned the sobriquet "the $250,000 turn signal", because as the AIM-4 flew by a MiG without detonating, its contrail signaled the MiG pilot to perform a hard break.
  17. It sounds as if you're either attempting to place them the wrong folder (the one under program files x86), or, you're not logged on as an administrator.
  18. My new best friends

LOL...I recall going Through a ton of money feeding my S&W Model 629 .44, and my Colt 1911 ACP. I got just as much out of shooting my High Standard Victor .22LR, and I could buy several bricks (500 round boxes) of 22LR for the same price as just one 50 round box of .45 ammo. I also had a Beeman R1 air rifle, chambered for .177 (IIRC, you could also get them in .20 and .22 caliber). I had tons of fun killing empty soda cans in my friend's scrap yard with that rifle. I recall paying just under $200 US for one back in 1981. I recently saw a new R1 priced at an eye-watering $619! I should have held on to mine.
  19. There's nothing you can mod in that area. Sounds are associated with specific coded events, and those can only be added by the developer (ThirdWire), and not by any modder.
  20. AC/DC disbanded

No true, though I've heard that Brian Johnson quit, and was replaced by a new lead, some guy named Loo Flirpa

  22. Weapons dunces

Many years ago (mid 1970s), my friend's dad used to winter store his boat at a yard in Tom's River, NJ. The dock master there used to keep a .22 revolver handy (I believe it was a 6" Colt Diamondback), due to the preponderance of rats that seemed to invade his yard every spring. He kept it loaded with either .22 shorts or .22LR snake-shot, and I recall that it was really quiet. In fact the loudest sound it emitted was either the "ping" of the hammer, or the "smack" that the round made when it struck a rat. It actually sounded more like a pneumatic pop-rivet gun, than a firearm. Years later, just for grins, I tried the plastic-bottle silencer trick with a Ruger 10-22. The muzzle report was muted down to a soft pop, but the round still made the characteristic, super-sonic "crack" as it passed through the bottle.

  24. Name Your Poison of the Day

Let's see...sometimes I begin my mornings with taylor ham, egg, and cheese on bagel, with a side of hashbrowns from either Dunkin' Donuts, or from my local bagel shop. Add a 16 oz carton of OJ, backed up by a 24 oz coffee (with cream and sugar), and you'll easily approach your daily limit of calories and cholesterol, in one easy to carry and eat meal... And that's just the start of the day!
