Parachute illuminitor flares...
Fubar512 replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Wouldn't be better off as a retarded bomb? Anyway, increasing the (subsonic) drag coefficient value should do trick. -
A shark was sighted (and captured on video) swimming in the surf-line off of a popular NJ resort (Sea Side Beach). The idiots-on-the scene called it a "sand shark", when in actuality, it's a blue shark (Prionace Gluaca). http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local-beat/5-Foot-Sand-Shark-Forces-Closure-of-Snookis-Beach--99690509.html Blue sharks are normally found in deep, offshore waters, and are usually gone from this area by the time the water temperature starts to climb above 72 degree Fahrenheit. They are also, while technically not "man-eaters", they are potentially dangerous, as they're known for their curious nature. And by that, I mean they will try and taste anything that they find appealing. I've had them bite boat propellers, and they just loved the crap out of the zinc anode on my boat's electrical bonding system. A person's forearm or shin would simply be another "curiosity" for them to sample So, I believe that the authorities took the proper action by closing the beach....I just love the stupid comments made by some of the sunshine supermen..."Oh, it's just a harmless sand shark". They wouldn't know a "sand shark", if it swam up and bit them on the arse.

I don't think so, Michael. Most of the stories regarding the Japanese surrender qualify as myths. The fact remains that the Japanese did not respond to the Potsdam Ultimatum. And that's a well documented historical fact, not a myth. Surrender Chronology This is taken from our daily chronology pages -- more of specific Russian interface may be added later. May 8 . VE Day. Germany surrenders May 18. Japanese ambassadors in Europe warn of transfer of troops and material to the Pacific is underway. June 6 . Japanese government begins 3-day conference with Emperor to discuss the war. June 8 . Imperial Conference with Emperor : "the nation will fight to the bitter end." June 9 . Keeper of Privy Seal, Kido, begins search for "peace with honor" within civil government. June 24. Japan asks Soviets to extend Neutrality Pact. June 29. Japan offers Soviets fishing concessions for oil. July 12. Japanese inquire of Russia about terms. Not forwarded. July 17. Potsdam Conference begins. July 21. Allies radio Japan : "Surrender or be destroyed." July 22. First troops from Europe arrive Philippines. Spies, no doubt, report this. July 26. Potsdam Ultimatum to Japan : surrender unconditionally or face 'utter destruction.' July 27. Japanese cites "bombed" with leaflets telling to surrender or be destroyed. July 28. Japan rejects Potsdam Declaration by silence. Aug 2 . Potsdam conference ends. Aug 6 . Hiroshima -- one plane destroys a target.1 Aug 8 . Japanese Supreme Council demands : 1. keep Imperial family , 2. disarm own troops , 3. no war crimes , 4. limited occupation of Japan. USSR invades Manchuria [per Yalta agreement]; declares war on Japan. Aug 9 . Nagasaki A-bombed.2 Aug 10. Emperor concludes to Cabinet the time had come to "bear the unbearable". August 11-12. Radio and diplomatic notes seeking terms. Aug 13. Allied firm response. General Ohnishi plea made to commit twenty million lives (kamikaze) to victory. Aug 14. Japan accepts the provisions of the Potsdam Declaration and starts diplomatic process to surrender. Coup attempt within Japanese government put down. 15Aug. (Aug 14 in U.S.3) Emperor speaks to the nation: "... the enemy has recently made use of an inhuman bomb4 ..." Second strike of morning is canceled while en route; pilots jettison their ordnance and return to carriers. Four former enemy were shot down as background while Halsey read his "the war is ended" speech to the fleet. Three more attacking bombers were downed later in the day.5 Source: http://www.ww2pacific.com/surrnote.html

Do you mean how to create a new model from scratch, or how to convert a model from another series or format? -

Mig-21 white cockpit parts...
Fubar512 replied to Wilches's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
The cure, unfortunately is either install an OS that sports at least DX10 (Vista or Win 7), or, wait until the developer fixes the cockpit .lod file. The problem appears to be caused by a nodes that do not have any materials associated with them. -

Harriers and hovering?
Fubar512 replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Water injection cools down the combustion process enough to allow the introduction of more fuel (in the case of jets) and higher supercharger boost pressures (in the case of reciprocating engines). Both scenarios result in an increase of thrust or horsepower then would otherwise be possible without engine damage. -
Sorry, but that's quite wrong, and is distorted rubbish. The Japanese made preparations to fight down to the last civilian. And they recalled almost 2 MILLION troops back from Manchuria, to help repel the expected invasion. At that time, they also held a huge number of slave laborers (possibly as many as 300,000!), which were to be executed in advance of any invasion. The dropping of the A-bombs stopped this barbaric act from occurring. My neighbor's father was with the occupation force in Japan during late '45 and '46, and he told us stories of the vast weapons caches that were found and destroyed (including a dry dock filled with dozens of suicide subs), along with printed materials detailing how civilians were expected to resist the invasion, and how to fashion crude gas-masks to protect them from the toxic gases that the Japanese military intended to use against the invaders. And this last bit was verified by Japanese citizens that were interviewed at the time.

Latest patch TV/LGB frame rate issue
Fubar512 replied to X RAY's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
OK, let's try this... I have 1024 mb of VRAM on my GTS 250, and I'm not suffering any appreciable loss of frame rate with the EO screen activated. Anyone with a similar amount of video RAM experiencing this issue? -

I'll bet that those white rectangles are anomalies that only appear on some models under DX9. -
Aircraft Carrier
Fubar512 replied to Mike thompson's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That's not accurate . One can take off from, and recover back onto a carrier in a scripted single mission. I've written quite a few of them in my time, and if I'm not mistaken, both WoV and SF2V come with at least one carrier-based single mission, by default. -

Limited target locked range
Fubar512 replied to tiopilotos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Combat Tree. The real answer to the "pop quiz", was "It's named boresight, because it acquires the target that you have bore-sighted in the combining glass." One is not likely to see a fighter-sized target much beyond five miles or so. Even at that range, the likelyhood of distinguishing, say, a MiG-21 from an A-4 Skyhawk from a tail-on profile is slim and none, and I'll place my bets on the latter probability. -

Does the word "boresight" itself perhaps provide a clue? -
Limited target locked range
Fubar512 replied to tiopilotos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
POP QUIZ: There's a bleedingly obvious, and as of yet, unmentioned (at least in this thread so far), reason for limiting maximum acquisition range in boresight mode. Particularly on older aircraft. Can anuyone tell me what it is? -
