  1. It probably takes 4-8 times longer to create a passable cockpit, than it does to create an aircraft model. A high-quality cockpit model my take 10-12x longer. An example: The 3D model for the TMF MiG-29A was completed in the space of three or four months. The cockpit took over 18 months.
  2. The model is either missing a "distance .lod', or there's an error in the model's .ini file pertaining to visible distances.
  3. The weapon type name callout in the SA-8L_Data.ini (launcher data.ini) must match the SA-8A or SA-8B missile type name, the one spelled out in the missile's .ini file in the weapons folder (not its data.ini file). For example: [Missile1] SystemType=MISSILE MissileID=1 WeaponTypeName=SA-8B WeaponPosition=-1.195,-0.948,2.863 ShowMissile=TRUE IndependentPitchMovement=FALSE
  4. Install the Dec '09 patch, and FFB functionality should be available again.
  5. My First Flight Sim

If I were to be asked what my first flight simulator was, I would unhesitatingly answer "Falcon 3.0". Well, I've just discovered evidendence to the contrary. You see, back in December of 1962 (when I was all of 4), I received my first flight simulator as a Christmas gift.....Jimmy Jet! http://www.prestonmarketing.com/toys/jimmyjet/jimmyjet.html You can see it tucked behind the Christmas tree. Note the date on the image...lol In mint shape, I'd say that it would fetch more than $500 today. Notice the Operation X-500 base in the foreground. I recall taking a beating after shooting my older brother with one of the its self-defense missile launchers http://www.timewarptoys.com/operationx500.htm Cant find anything on the helo in the background...
  6. Why, there's something you don't see every day....
  7. Phil Harris of Deadliest Catch DIes

IIRC, he suffered a blood clot two or three years ago, and almost died before he could get ashore. He sat out one season, and went out the following one, against doctor's orders. Godspeed, Capt Phil.

  9. No. His issue is frame-buffer related...he has more than enough RAM.
  10. IFF was in use since WWII. The drawback to IFF, is that (in theory) it can be read and decoded by either side in a conflict. Thus, it was common practice during the Vietnam era to shut off the IFF system, or "strangle the parrot", when flying into hostile territory. "Combat Tree", a system installed on a handful of F-4Ds during 1971 & 1972, was able to interrogate Soviet IFF signals, and was used successfully against the VPAF. The TW F-15A in WoE, WoI, and SF2E & SF2I simulates IFF operation, as does the F-16 Netz, and (I believe) the F-4 Kurnass.
  11. Regarding the afterburner effect, there are a couple of options. The simplest invloves forcing the model to use a default effect, such as the F15AfterburnerEmitter. To do so, in the F-14A folder, open up the F-14A_data.ini scroll down to the Engines section, and edit the AfterburnerEmitterName= entry for both engines, like so AfterburnerEmitterName=F15AfterburnerEmitter. Depending on who edited AIM-54C model, that issue may be a bit harder to diagnose. Try this, open up the AIM-54C data.ini, and overwrite it with this data: [WeaponData001] TypeName=AIM-54C FullName=AIM-54C Phoenix ModelName=AIM-54C Mass=462.000000 Diameter=0.381000 Length=4.010000 SubsonicDragCoeff=0.120000 SupersonicDragCoeff=0.222000 AttachmentType=USN SpecificStationCode=F14 NationName=USN StartYear=1982 EndYear=2007 Availability=1 BaseQuantity=4 Exported=FALSE ExportStartYear=0 ExportEndYear=0 ExportAvailability=0 WeaponDataType=1 RailLaunched=FALSE RocketPod=FALSE Retarded=FALSE FinStabilized=TRUE SpinStabilized=FALSE HasGrowl=FALSE EffectClassName=LargeMissileEffects ReleaseDelay=0.000000 WarheadType=0 Explosives=60.000000 FusingDistance=3.000000 ClusterBomblets=0 ClusterDispersion=0.000000 GuidanceType=13 Accuracy=90 MaxTurnRate=18.700001 MaxLaunchG=3.000000 LockonChance=85 LaunchReliability=90 ArmingTime=2.000000 SeekerFOV=90.000000 SeekerGimbleLimit=90.000000 SeekerTrackRate=40.000000 SeekerRange=150000.000000 MinLaunchRange=3700.000000 MaxLaunchRange=150000.000000 Duration=300.000000 CounterCountermeasure=60.000000 NoiseRejection=60.000000 CapabilityFlags=0x104000ab LoftAngle=10.000000 DescentAngle=10.000000 MaxLoftAltitude=20000.000000 CLmax=14.000000 MinFreq=0.000000 MaxFreq=0.000000 BoosterStart=1.500000 BoosterDuration=2.000000 BoosterAccel=5.250000 BoosterEffectName=LargeSAMTrailEffect BoosterSoundName=Missile BoosterNodeName= BoosterPosition=0.000000,-1.835150,0.000000 SustainerDuration=28.000000 SustainerAccel=7.000000 SustainerEffectName=LargeSAMTrailEffect SustainerSoundName=SAMinFlight SustainerPosition=0.000000,-1.835150,0.000000 InFlightEffectName=LargeSAMTrailEffect InFlightSoundName=SAMinFlight ReleaseAnimationID=-1 EODisplayFlags=0 CEP=0.000000
  12. More Dumb School News

OMG no...lol One was lucky if most of this stuff survived to the following Christmas (planned obsolescence, and all that). Even if it did, it was usually discarded or, if it was still serviceable, passed along to younger relatives or friends. When I was in my early teens, my mother convinced me to give away my Lionel Train collection to a younger cousin. I obliged, as by then, I'd long since lost interest in the hobby, and it was doing nothing more than collecting dust in our attic. Fast forward to 1979 or so, when I was in my early 20's. An acquaintance at work was showing us pictures of his Lionel trains. I picked out some familiar items, and then described to him some of the other locomotives and rolling stock that I'd once owned. He literally flipped out when I casually mentioned, that I'd given tehm all away to a 10-year old cousin, a scant 8 years before He replied that one set in particular, was worth over $2000 at the time, mostly because of it's aluminum "A" and "B" locomotives (they'd switched to plastic sometime in the early 1960s). I'd imagine that they're worth substantially more, today...
  13. Make sure that your horizon distance is set to "Normal". If that doesn't help, I'm afraid that you're running out of texture memory. I went from a 512 mb to a 1024 mb card, and my minimum fps went up by 30%.
  14. I nominate you, Eraser....you can be our mouthpiece
  15. You still need to acquire and track a target before launching the AIM-54s. The initial procedure is the same as for any SAHM missile (such as a Sparrow), the difference being that once the Phoenix (or any AHM) begins tracking on its own, it no longer requires guidance from the launch platform (in the AIM-54's case, usually after 10-15 seconds have elapsed). The Phoenix is best used at ranges between 25 & 100 nm, as it climbs to high altitude during its flight. (note, not all data.ini files for that missile have this coded in). The following tutorial is for the F-4 & F-15, but the basics apply to all aircraft in the series.

In our school the paddle actually had a name..."Holy Joe"
  17. More Dumb School News

LOL...my best friend did that one day, back around the time we were in Fourth grade {'67-'68). The cops arrived, assessed the situation, winked at my friend's dad, and took my friend for a ride in their squad car. Whatever those cops said to him, or whatever they showed him, he never pulled that stunt again.
  18. More Dumb School News

Oh, I agree with ezlead, but the average public school system today seems to do its absolute dampest in indoctrinating kids into becoming little turds...and then they conveniently shy away from the responsibility of having done that. A prime example, is my friend's son. Up until the age of 5, he was unbelievably polite....and then, he went to school (kindergarten), and his behavior started to change for the worse, until my friend stepped in and took him out of the public school system.
  19. You don't need to reinstall, patch the default install to the recommended level for the mods you intend to use, and then copy and paste the entire (defualt) directory, as many times as necessary. Don't forget to rename and redirect the .exe file to each install (set the .exe file's path to its install folder).
  20. 1) Make sure that you have the latest Directx installed (the entire runtime, not just the "missing" .dll). 2) Make sure that your video drivers are current 3) I assume that this is on Windows XP? Try reinstalling WoE (etc), and then make sure that you patch it to the service pack level that you prefer (normally, 06 or 08). You should be good to go...
  21. Cool! It's been done before, though, for other reasons.
  22. This should be helpful: http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2343
  23. And, the envitable answer: Two Weeks! Seriously, that's up to FC. It'll be released when he's satified with it.
