  1. In one week's time

The First image is from is from today (27 December). The second image is from Sunday, 20 December, after a record (for December) 21.5" snowfall. What's missing?
  2. In theory, deceptive jamming projects a false echo away from the jamming source. This mode may supposedly decoy a missile away from you. "Noise" generates noise spikes, or "grass" on the enemy's radar screen, preventing him from acquiring you at long range. It however, can be a double-edged sword...as you also supply an excellent point source for a missile equipped with home-on-jam guidance. Dual mode, is, as the name implies, both deception and noise jamming in unison.
  3. Which .exe are you using? The combo pack should have one master .exe (probably SF2.exe), and the program folder should contain the three additional ones (SF2V/E/I), as well. Make sure that you're starting it with the master.
  4. In one week's time

That's how much rain we've had since Friday evening, coupled with 5 consecutive days of above-freezing temps. The snow was still here Friday morning. The ground's saturated, there's huge standing puddles everywhere. Check out the local forecast for the next 5-days: Today High: 50° Low: 34° Intermittent Clouds Monday High: 42° Low: 23° Rain to Snow Tuesday High: 23° Low: 16° Windy Wednesday High: 32° Low: 21° Partly Sunny Thursday High: 33° Low: 26° Mostly Cloudy
  5. Ghost is an "old timer", having cut his teeth on SFP1 quite a few years ago...so he knows the drill. He's just picked up TW's SF2x combo pack, and wanted to install a personalized aircraft texture-set that did not come with a readme. It's all good now...
  6. Be careful..... our resident knucklehead (Dave), will surely take exception to you claiming that title for yourself.
  7. Well, any of the SF2 titles that you can download now, are patched to the Dec09 level, which is not officially supported by NF4+. You can try overcoming this, by using Stary's latest GermanyCE terrain (he made it Dec09 compliant), but I can all but guarantee that you'll still encounter minor issues in several other areas. Wouldn't prevent me from upgrading, though
  8. Sure it is, Eric....it happens allllllll the time If a SAM is launched from your nine o'clock, it does not head straight for you. It adjusts its trajectory to intercept a point in space in front of where its target is, at the time of launch (it's called the cutoff angle). A large maneuver by you just after the SAM is launched, is easily compensated for, by very small manauver on the SAMs part (while it is still some distance away). That is why the most effective SAM-avoidance maneuvers are those that are timed to occur at the last possible moment.
  9. You'll need to install them in release order to prevent issues when updating them (SF, then SF2, SF2E, and finally SF2I). I would suggest going with SF2I, as it should have no problems installing over SF2E.
  10. Well, there's a problem with that screen shot, assuming its a SAM (which is what the thread's about). And that is; there is no weapon to target view for SAMs.
  11. No, looks like you did not describe it properly. And I quote: "i've also been shot down far away by sa-10. but i just cannot stand that several missiles are just flying around me and their trails are all over the sky... and they seem to unable to turn ( in the first frame, the missile turns to me for about 1 or 2 degrees, and in the next frame, it turns to the opposite direction for about 1 degrees or so) so the missile looks trembling and vibrating in a small amplitude and this looks quite weird..." Sounds like spiraling to me.... I've seen every type of SAM available for this series hit their targets. And that means SA-2s,3s,5s,6s,7s,8s,9s,10s,11s,13s,18s,Nikes, Hawks, Chaparrals, Terriers, etc, etc, etc. And, in game, they usually exceed real life launch-to-intercept ratios by a significant margin. It took something on the order of 110 SA-2 launches to knock down one aircraft during the last full year of the Vietnam war. Even during the height of the Yom Kippur war, the combined SA-2F/3/6 ratio was 1 intercept out of 25-30 launches.
  12. Why shouldn't they? In SF2 series, every terrain can have it's own unique environment, nations, and object skins. For example, in the SF2 ODS_terrain.ini in a combined install, you'd add these lines to control which nations and aircraft you'd encounter: EnvironmentFile=ODS_Environment.ini LimitedNations=TRUE GroundObjectTexture=Sand That's just one example of the advantages SF2 has over SF1.
  13. Remember the fallen

    Oli was a good man...
  14. what you're describing (the spiraling) is realistic behavior for modern, highly maneuverable SAMs. Even SAMs as old as the SA-3 leave a corkscrewing trail as they fly to their targets (as do AAMs).
  15. I can relate to that....it can be a real headache to update everything to work with every new patch, even for an experienced modder.
  16. There are really no drawbacks to a merged game, as long as you're willing to edit everything to work properly. Every terrain can have its own individual environment, limited nations, groundobjects, etc.
  17. OMG WTF?

I don't know where we come from, don't know where we're going to... But if all of this should have a reason, we would be the last to know....
  18. The Past Decade

I have to share this.... An acquaintance writes an occasional piece for the entertainment section of a local newspaper. Every year, he's asked to pen an article on the past year's highlights in both the cinema and television. This year, he also had to include the decade in review. Television-wise, there were an impressive number of series that he endorsed, though he could not say the same for movie releases. He was still struggling to find ten that he could say were a must see. He told me that at the end of the 1980s and 1990s, he likewise had trouble settling on the top ten...only then, it was because there were so damned many to choose from.
  19. The Sumner Fram 2 is a copyrighted work by ThirdWire, and as such, it is illegal for someone to just send it you. It's only available in WoV or SF2V, and you'll have to purchase either of those if you want it that bad. You can always substitute it with a freeware destroyer model.
  20. No. As long as you use default TW entries/values, the game engine will see that DX10 is not available, and revert to using DX9.
  21. Excellent work, Stary! A few issues/typos In the GermanyCE.ini.... Latitude is listed as 80 degrees....as far as I know, Germany isn't located inside the Arctic circle...yet (perhaps in 10,000 years, due to polar procession ). Changed it back to 51.111 For merged installs, you need (and forgot) to add the following lines: LimitedNations=TRUE GroundObjectTexture=green A request: Can you create tod files with normal height trees? I enjoy flying CAS and Armed Recon at tree top level, and well, I find 200 foot tall trees to be somewhat of an immersion killer. Overall, it's another home run...
  22. The Past Decade

With a few exceptions (all personal), the "aughts" sucked. I found the last decade to essentially be nothing more than a continuation of the nineties, a downward spiral. It's almost as if we, as a civilization, are being forced to pay a penance for the good times we had during the eighties.
  23. On which side? If you mean the Israeli side, well, you have to add the right addons. Hawks (require placement on the map), Chaparrals, M-42 Dusters (etc.), are all available.
  24. If you recieved a warning, it certainly was not for this.
