  3. I know that setting helped prevent alpha objects from bleeding through clouds, but come to think of it, occasionally runway surfaces (bitmaps) still bled through, and of course, that ground tile is a bitmap. I'll try it myself at "17" and see what happens.
  4. As a setting in the cloud material? It doesn't work? Really?
  5. Ahhh... Sounds like an alpha object issue. There's a bit of a workaround, and that's to set "alphatestenabled" to false.
  6. I've been using the same values going on like 5 years now, so I wasn't sure whether the "200000" value was a default or not. Out of curiosity, what was your intent with increasing the detail mesh value?
  7. Some new afterburner FX I've been playing with. Thanks to JimmyBib for the assist on the TGA. And yes (in case you're wondeing), it's Cellinsky's environment mod, with a few tweaks that I've been discussing with him http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...si&img=6234
  8. In changing the horizon distance, you've effectively changed the sky rendering distance, that is, the area over which clouds will be displayed. You've also introduced clipping. These are the values I use: [HighDetailOption] HorizonDistance=99000.0 DetailMeshSize=6 DetailLevel=1 WaterEffect=2 NoiseTexture=1 MaxTextureRes=2048 Along with: [FarSceneClip] FarClipDistance=200000.0 NearClipDistance=3500.0 [NormalSceneClip] FarClipDistance=140000.0 NearClipDistance=120249.97 [NearSceneClip] FarClipDistance=120250.0 NearClipDistance=1.2 You may have to set the skydistance in the environment system.ini to a value of 200000 as well, which will also force you to reset the horizon and vertex heights, as well as require you to increase the cloud (count) number for each weather level. It's almost like Algebra. What you do on one end of the equation has to be repeated on the other end UPDATE: Here's a webpage with data and graphs that you might find helpful, theoretical distance to the horizon, from varying altitudes ( in meters ): http://newton.ex.ac.uk/research/qsystems/p...hysics/horizon/

In that case, both of you would enjoy one of my favorites, "Last Chance", by Shooting Star LINK
  10. It's due to the new flight engine that was introduced with WoI, and that will probably be used in the upcoming patch series for all the TW titles (SP5). Many, (if not all) of the pre-existing flight models will have to be redone in order for them to work properly.

    Well said, Sparky.
  14. Devil's Tower, Wyoming.

Nicky, I suggest you take a drive through Monument Valley, on the Utah-Arizona bider. It's a sight you'll never forget, especially at sunset or sunrise.

  16. That's the effect itself, due to the shape and orientation of the tga.

  20. Astronomy...

The most stunning night skies I've ever seen, are on clear Summer nights well offshore, far from the influences of light and atmospheric pollution. There's something about having a completely unobstructed horizon all around you, that places one in a almost intimate relationship with the night sky. Also, if there's no wind and the Ocean's surface is flat, it acts as a mirror, reflecting the stars on its broad expanse. Sitting up in the fly bridge of a boat that's moving through the water on such a night, is a surreal experience. It feels as if you're navigating through space. Of course, anything more powerful than a pair of 7X50 mm binoculars is useless out there, as any more magnification would do little more than amplify the slightest movement.
  21. Astronomy...

My parents gave me a 2.4" (60 mm) refracter on altazimuth mount for my 10th birthday. Less than two years later, I built a 6" (150 mm) Newtonian reflector from a kit. I used that last 'scope for almost three years, before losing interest in it, while I was midway through high school. I eventually gave it to a coworker's son sometime during the 1980s (or about ten years later). Anyway, while I owned it, that 6" flat blew me away. I remember being astonished first time I viewed the ring nebula in Lyra, or the Hercules globular cluster (M13), while visting an uncle who lived in a rural area of NJ, far away from the "light" pollution of my urban home.
  22. Excellent work....I can appreciate the amount of time & effort it takes just to get the lighting right. BTW the clipping issue with the cloud layer is due to the near tile count & size, and there are a few otherwise "unknown" options that one has when it comes to implementing overcast & inclement weather conditions that you might want to know about...
