Working on it, Erik. I keep getting this message: The following errors were found: One of the fields you completed had more data than is allowed. I've tried truncating the file name. -

The Water FX as they appear in WoE, using the data edits that I've posted. -

Just drop the attached file into your terrain folder, and make sure that you have the terrain (or water effects in WoI) at the highest settings. If you already have a waternormal.bmp in there, rename it so you can go back to it just in case you do not like the effect. Feel free to experiment with it. These are the settings that I'm using in WoV ( in the Vietnamsea_data.ini): [WaterTextureMaterial] UseEffectShader=TRUE EffectShaderName=WaterEffect.fx DepthBufferCheck=TRUE DepthBufferWrite=FALSE RenderedInOrder=TRUE AlphaTestEnabled=TRUE CullMode=CLOCKWISE LightEnabled=TRUE SpecularEnabled=TRUE EmissiveEnabled=FALSE FogEnabled=TRUE AmbientColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000 DiffuseColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000 SpecularColor=1.500000,1.500000,1.500000,1.000000 SpecularPower=5.000000 Reflectivity=1.00000 Transparency=0.95000 ZBufferOffset=2.000000 ZBufferOffset=4.000000 BlendOp=BLEND_SRC_ALPHA NumTextureStages=2 TextureStage[01].TextureName=vietnamS1.TGA; <---in WoE, use GERMANYS1.TGA TextureStage[01].MipMap=TRUE TextureStage[01].FilterEnabled=TRUE TextureStage[01].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_MODULATE_DIFFUSE TextureStage[01].StageAlphaOp=TEXTURE TextureStage[02].TextureName=vietnamS1.TGA; <---in WoE, use GERMANYS1.TGA TextureStage[02].MipMap=TRUE TextureStage[02].FilterEnabled=TRUE TextureStage[02].ReflectionMapping=TRUE TextureStage[02].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_BLEND_TEXTURE_ALPHA TextureStage[02].StageAlphaOp=DIFFUSE -
Speaking of shader effects

Here's a quick and dirty video of the "enhanced" shader effects in action. I'm still tweaking and refining it, and bear in mind that I'm using an ATI Radeon (which has pixelation issues with ThirdWire's shaders). Is it worth it it? Watch the video and judge for yourselves: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...si&img=5582 -

The sense of speed inside and outside the cockpit
Fubar512 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No, the finer it is, (the denser, the more detailed, the higher resolution the tiles are), the closer it is to giving you a proper sense of speed at low level. It's meant for WoE, and it requires WoE's Germany CE terrain files to work properly (.cat, target.ini files, etc.). -

In a word, no. Short of using a denser terrain, which only effects the sense of speed at low level, or (assuming you're running the sim in Windows XP and have the shaders on), by using a noisenormal.bmp with a decidedly more aggressive texture, you will not achieve that "feel of speed" you're seeking. I suggest you try Brain32's GermanyCE terrain, which includes CA_Stary's excellent tree and object pack. It helps a lot. -

Of course. Short of using the terrain shaders to give one the impression of density, the terrain in this series appears quite sparse. FastCargo hit the nail on the head, trees are way out of proportion (they appear to be 150-200 feet tall!), and there are 150 foot tall, three-story buildings in the "cities". The aircraft and ground objects (tanks, trucks, ships), though, are set to scale. Watch a tank drive through a grove a trees and you'll see what I mean. -
I had the original GI Joe in '64 or '65, and soon had an entire squad of them. I recall bugging the crap out of my parents every time we want to a department store, as I'd see all the neat uniform and accessory packs for the GI Joe series. The frogman and sea sled were among my favorites, as was the aforementioned Jeep with the recoilless rifle. I even had the astronaut 'Joe with the Mercury space capsule. It came with a 45 RPM record that featured snippets from John Glen's orbital flight aboard Friendship 7, back in February 20, 1962. Yeah, I guess that dates me...lol. I remember coming home from Kindergarten one November afternoon in '63, and wondering why the usual afternoon cartoons weren't on. My parents told me that President Kennedy had been assasinated....

First off, an OFP video is not a good example as it's not a realistic flight simulator. Secondly, let me drop a term on you: Terrain Density Looks pretty realistic to me: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...si&img=5543 -

Help!
Fubar512 replied to Fida's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
The basic MiG-21 design is over a half-century old, and nothing short of a prohibitively expensive (and non-cost effective) redesign would help it. The '21 suffers from a roll-rate restriction due to a high-order interaction between its lifting surfaces and fuselage, it's fuel capacity is limited, as is it's engine bay size. It's also somewhat demanding to fly, as it enters a stall without so much as a mild buffet to warn its pilot, so, it cannot turn and burn with 30 year old (third generation) designs, never mind the newest fighters. Its only advantage is that its relatively inexpensive to maintain, but then, most MiG-21 airframes have reached the end of their useful lifespans. -
Terrain masking flight successful.

Terrain masking in ThirdWire sims? News? LOL.
