Thirdwires F-104G
Fubar512 replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The question is, how well can you breathe at 38,000 feet? The wet thrust value of 69362.2 is a sea-level value. All powerplants have an altitude table that can be calibrated to match either fact, or fantasy. For reference purposes, I utilize a web-based jet engine simulator provided by NASA, from which one can create fairly accurate engine thrust and fuel consumption graphs based on altitude. You can see it, at this LINK -
Aircraft shadows
Fubar512 replied to scission's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I've found that what kills your frame rates, isn't necessarily the shadows themselves. In fact, I have shadows, mirrors, reflections, all switched on, and I run my sim at 1600x1200 32 bpp resolution with 4x FSAA and 16x af. Another board member who wishes to remain anonymous showed me this trick : [shadow] CastShadow=TRUE ShadowLOD=F-104G_shadow.shd ShadowType=1 ShadowCastDist=10000<------change this to 200. Who cares if you cannot see your aircraft's shadow cast from beyond 200 meters? MaxVisibleDistance=400<----ditto -
Lock down without a warning on RWR?
Fubar512 replied to orsin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
OK, I need to know which F-16 you have. Is it the Mirage Factory's? Here's an image of the RWR on an F-16 in one of my WoE installs. I've added custom symbology to help discriminate between air and ground-based emitters, and symbols to differentiate whether the emitter was searching for me, had acquired me, or had achieved lock. -

I believe Colmack was referring to prop-jobs. Even some of today's jet aircraft (the MiG-29 immediately comes to mind) are "smokers". -

Brainless question?
Fubar512 replied to Brainless's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Early turbojets were quite inefficient when compared to modern power plants. They generated a fraction of their sea-level thrust at altitude, were slow to spool up (upwards of 10 seconds from idle to mil power) , and often caught fire or quit when subjected to rapid throttle changes. Also, In real life, missions over North Korea were flown at full throttle from takeoff until landing, or flame out. In fact, it wasn't unusual for Sabre pilots to have to glide as far as 50 nm to a forward base, because they had flamed out over NK! That being said, the existing F-86F FM was penned up over four years ago. I have an updated version in the works. -
Brainless question?
Fubar512 replied to Brainless's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
1 Knot = 1.15 MPH. Now that we've cleared that, did you even bother to research the difference between IAS and TAS? This question seems to come up every two weeks, and the majority of the experienced hands have answered it often enough to have grown quite weary of doing so. To answer your question, Vmax for an F-86 in clean configuration at 38,000 feet is about 270 knots Indicated Air Speed. That translates to 516 knots True Air Speed, or 593 mph. -

Fubar512 replied to Brainless's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Brainless, Do yourself a favor, and read up on "Knots vs MPH". While you're at it, look up "True airspeed vs Indicated Airspeed". -

missiles countercountermeasures
Fubar512 replied to jklv's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
First off, you're comparing a twenty-year old missile to one that is just coming on line. Secondly, the in-service date on the R-73M1 was 1987, not 1980. Thirdly, you're probably not taking advantage of the missile's all-aspect capabilities, and that is why you're probably shooting at flares. Ponder that one. Anyway, lets get to debugging these. I've replaced the unrealistic figures with those that are pretty much spot-on, and marked them wherever I thought attention might be warranted. Fubar512 replied to jklv's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
What model Sidewinder? What model Archer? I've no problem hitting targets with both the R-73M1 and M2, unless said target is maneuvering and dumping flares simultaneously, and I'm firing from a rear quarter aspect while it's doing so. I've even found the R-60MK to be effective when fired within its parameters. I'll tell you what. Copy and paste the .ini entries for the R-73M1 & M2. and for L & M-series Sidewinders to your response, and I'll see if they match my entries. -
Lock down without a warning on RWR?
Fubar512 replied to orsin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
When you say that you did not recieve a warning, do you mean that there was no lock tone, or no tone at all (track or lock) ? If it's the latter, then it's probably the issue that Drdoyo mentioned. If there was a track tone, at but no lock tone, then you may have simply been hit by an IRM. For the record, I've had AI models launch IRMs at me with no radar warning at all (visual or aural). -

Did you save the changes using the weapon editor? If not, then it will not work, as the weapondata.ini is nothing more than a textual reference that is used to create a weapondata.dat file. The game engine reads the .dat file. -
A-12 Avenger
Fubar512 replied to christian59's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Stealth works well, arguably too well, as it's presently an "all or nothing" effect. The values are not as well defined (or tweakable) as TK may have originally intended. To utilize stealth, under the detect system header, add: BaseRCSModifier=-0.050. Note that I've used a negative value. With the current AircraftObject.dll, if you do not specify a negative value, the RCS modifier will not work. You may also want to tweak the "Max visible Distance" to something under 4000 m, and declare the aircraft capability as "Night_Only", otherwise you will be visible to other aircraft at extreme distances, even at night. -

Is thereany one working on the F15E cockpit
Fubar512 replied to airvee001's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Cockpits are much harder to model than aircraft themselves, and as a result, there are a precious few individuals who actually take the time do so. Secondly, even if someone were to create a realistic E-model pit, it would not be fully functional at this point, due to the limitions of the avionics code. You'd either have a fairly accurate, working HUD and A2A radar only, or one sporting a "mocked-up" HUD with primitive (60's era) A2A & simplified A2G radar modes.
