Stand off attacks with exocet and superetendard
Fubar512 replied to jeanba's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
If you edit the max visual distance value in any given ship's data.ini file to reflect ASM target acquistion ranges, you'll find that you can target them over the horizon. -
Yeah, OK. That makes a lot of sense. At least to someone who may be brain-dead. It's called "Predation". It's nature's way. BTW, foxes have been known to "kill for fun". as have wolves, tigers, and lions. Shall we tell them that it's wrong? Those species, and their ancestors, have only been practicing it for several million years.

Meanwhile, lurking a few miles from Wrench's lair....

Conversely, the East Coast Mako population is in fairly good nick. I've encountered Makos ranging in size from "purple puppies" to freight-car sized behemoths. The most memorable was watching an 800-1000 lb Mako chomping away at a floating swordfish carcass just inshore of the continental shelf. What's been overfished here are the Dusky, Tiger, and Bull sharks, whose populations have been decimated by "finners", that is, lowlife fisherman who catch them, hack off their fins (shark fins are in high-demand in the orient), and then drop the now helpless sharks back in the water, to die a slow death from starvation. I've kept only mid sized (150-250 lb) Makos for the table, and tagged and released the rest. In fact I've probably tagged several hundred blue sharks over the years, as well. some old pics (scanned to jpeg) -
Julhelm, Don't confuse this with hunting. This, was a wanton act of cruelty by a pair of a-holes against an animal that was for all intents and purposes a pet. It was conditioned by constant exposure to humans to trust them unconditionally, and to expect kindness and food from them. When a hunter shoots a wild duck, it is over instantly for that animal, and that hunter and his loved one's will get a meal out of that duck. The hunter's intent isn't torture and cruelty.

If you think that's ugly, you should see what an Eastern seaboard "Conger Eeel" looks like. While it's properly referred to as an Ocean Pout, the locals have proclaimed this creature a Conger Eel: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=6&cad=rja&ved=0CEwQFjAF&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maine.gov%2Fdmr%2Frecreational%2Fanglerguide%2Fdoyouknowyourcatch%2Fdocuments%2Foceanpout.pdf&ei=4QSuUdv_H6-30gHe6wE&usg=AFQjCNEKmopVbcCHWQHUAXCiTHQWFIYi8g&sig2=8p3xsUVMU2C4mGMb1bM3Pg&bvm=bv.47244034,d.dmQ Pretty, eh?

And And (before anyone asks), ArmourDave "retired" from the freeware modding scene about 8 years ago. Also, the MAX files for all his SF models were lost due to a hard drive crash. -

They should both be sent on a voyage to the Straits of Hormuz, courtesy of the Royal Navy. Once there, the ship should anchor in the south eastern lee of the small islet by the wreckage of the Bu-Rashid, in such a manner so its stern is sitting directly over the 100-meter curve, and timed to take advantage of the tide ebbing out of the gulf (note that I have marked the islet in red). Then, I propose that the crew begin "chumming" with ground-up fish (preferably an oily species, such as mackerel). Afterwards the two "gentlemen" can be slowly lowered into the water....but only after the dinner guests (pods of Bull and Tiger sharks) have assembled. The whole affair should be given all the video coverage possible.

They're calling this the largest tornado on record so far. It may have been 2 miles across at it's base. There are 51 known fatalities (so far), including possibly as many as two dozen children. They are all in my thoughts and prayers. http://houston.cbslocal.com/2013/05/20/meteorologist-worst-tornado-damage-in-the-history-of-the-world/

Simply listing a few values is a meaningless excersize, as they all must work in concert in order to achieve acceptable results. In short, it's the entire flight model that needs to be revamped. The idea is not to do this in front of an IRM-equipped foe, but to utilize the ability to over-ride the alpha-limiter during a tail chase, to enable one to pull lead on a target that's off normal boresite parameters. -

Here's a video I made some time ago, notice how "sensitive" the model is to pitch inputs: -

Fubar512 replied to acesfakia's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
That alone will not do it. The trick is balancing in the model's pitch inertia value, its stall values, and again, how the model reacts at alpha stall (should pitch up sharply), and at alpha depart (must pitch down sharply, with no "mushing"). It takes a lot of T&E to balance this out, and even then, it is very sensitive to load, speed, and throttle. -

There is a way to accomplish this, but It is not something that can be done without compromising the flight model somewhere else in the flight regime. When the "cheat" is applied, it will ONLY work under hard flight model, and the compromise requires carefull pitch control between 300 - 450 KPH, otherwise, one often finds themselves in a high-alpha stall while maneuvering (or even landing). I have this incorporated into Marcelo's Su-33 (which is not released yet), and to properly utilize it, one needs a HOTAS setup with rudder pedals. -
Bowie was once asked about the message contained within the lyrics of Space Oddity, and his response was "It's just a song, man". Years later, when asked about the significance of the scenes, scenarios, and costumes in the Ashes to Ashes video, Bowie simply stated that the bulldozer represented "approaching violence". One of the crew involved in the filming of that video said that it (and the lyrics) dealt with Bowie burying his personas and problems from the 1970s, and moving on to new and better things.
