  1. What the IcelandNA terrain should look like....
  2. Not any more. That mod exploited a bug in the fuel-burn tables, which Third Wire has since fixed.
  3. It works in DX9, you just won't see the bump and speculat-mapping. It is, however, meant for mid-high to high range machines, with at least 1024 MB of available video RAM.
  4. A separate deck lod can be "made" by simply renaming a copy of the ship's main lod, accordingly. The Ulyanovsk is set up that way.
  5. Sir Patrick Moore RIP

I read one of his books on amatuer astronomy back in 6th grade....wow, that was 42 years ago! Godspeed Sir Patrick
  6. Sorry, the fake pilot method won't work for adding displays, gauges or user controllable animations.
  7. It's a multiple (or a fraction) of the 3D model's in-game profile. I'm serious!
  8. That may have been applied during the Korean war, or shortly afterwards (A-models had slatted wings to begin with, if they had upgraded that model at a later date, why not use the slatted F-40 wing?). Adding the all-flying tail would involve rebuilding the entire tail cone, as aircraft so-equipped have a rather noicable fairing to allow for the hydraulic actuators and their attendent plumbing.
  9. You can always start with freeware modeling software, such as Blender, create and export the model into 3ds format. Then have someone with 3dsMax 2009 import the model, and then in turn, have them export it to a LOD format. Cockpits are reportedly much more difficult to create than aircraft models. Just ask Centurion or Stary. BTW, Krizis has both a hi-poly Yak-38 model and cockpit in the works. I have the beta model for the former, as I penned up its flight model for him. Check on the Russian forum, and you'll find the thread on it.
  10. An "A" is always an "A"? Not necessarily true, as there is a 6-3 (hard-winged) winged A-model that occasionally appears at airshows, which I pointed out to Wrench. Rather interesting, actually, as it still has elevators, as opposed to the all-flying tail.
  11. I can attest to the fact that Kevin is extremely detail-oriented, and puts his heart and soul into whichever project he decides to work on. And though he's often working on 3-4 projects at a given time, he still finds, no, scratch that, he makes the time to lend a hand whenever or where ever it's needed. So I take it personally when anyone suggests that he needlessly cuts corners or throws accuracy out the window for expediency's sake.
  12. Pilot error doesn't count. Want some fun? Try this : Get into a steep dive from altitude with a MiG-15 on your tail. Make sure that you're almost vertical, and going at least Mach 0.93. Get below 8000 feet, slam the throttle to idle, and pull up sharply. At least half the time, the KAW MiG-15s won't be able to pull out of the dive, and will auger in.
  13. Another Sandy story...

  14. I meant assigning the missiles air and ground capability....that isn't unprecedented, BTW, several SAM systems were/are touted as being dual purpose.
  15. Just for s**tz n' grinz, you should try giving the mobile SAMs air and ground capability
  16. I know that the Sabre segment of Great Planes dates back to the 1980s....I remember seeing it while on a Winter's vacation in the Florida Keys, circa 1988. Here's another on the MiG-15: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKff4m4pxA8
  17. More videos to whet your appetites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VisiSCvNyY The first video has rare color footage of MiG-15 shootdowns over North Korea.
  18. Naval flight - when there's problem with payload ))

There are several nesting pairs of Ospreys near my home. The closest, is in the local reservior (Manasquan Reservoir), about 5 km away. I often take walks around the shoreline, and it's not uncommon to see Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, Perregrine Falcons, and Red Tailed-Hawks along the way.
  19. The first F-86A non-production models had curved windscreens, but evidently, they weren't up to the task. The A-5 (and 6, and 7) variants had reinforced, V-shaped windscreens. The F-86D (Sabre-dog) introduced the flat windscreen.
  20. 'Dallas' star Larry Hagman dies in Texas

The first couple of films that I remember him in was "Fail Safe" (1964) and 1965's "In Harm's Way". A short time later, he played astronaut Tony Nelson in the sitcom "I dream of Genie". He was also a Korean war veteran. RIP, Larry.
  21. Happy Thankgiving

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
  22. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the real-world handling traits of the F-86 (and its close sibling, the FJ-Fury), watch these two videos. I tried to simulate the performance as closely as I could. There are a few new surprises in store for the next round of Sabre releases.
