Planes suddenly bursting into flames!
warthog64 replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I really don't know, there's not any one thing I can think of that would be causing this. I'll be in afterburner for normal periods of time (maybe sometimes a little too much, but nothing bad). I really never know what causes it, it's just the strangest thing! -
B-26 Marauder
warthog64 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Incredible Job! Thanks again -
The USAF has been saying this off and on I believe for at least 10 years. In 2001/2002 Rumsfeld stated that this was a possibility, and in the end 33 were retired which allowed the remaining 60 and later 67 aircraft to emerge as one of the most capable, reliable, and effective weapons ever. It was 17 years after enetering service that the bone really came into its own, and this was after reducing the fleet by 1/3! As far as this news goes I have no idea what it means, but the B-1B is the most valuable bomber in service today and I hope no one in the USAF or congress is considering retiring this great aircraft. In the past 8 years the B-1B has been the main CAS weapon in Afghanistan saving hundreds if not thousands of lives, and no other platform in existance can perform it's role in Southwest Asia like it has. In recent years all I have heard is how successful the B-1B has been in Afghanistan and Iraq, in fact I think I even read in Osprey's B-1 units in combat that the RAF has been so impressed with the performance of the B-1B that it plans to reaquire heavy long range bombers in the near future! So I hope this story is not true, in fact it makes no sense to me!

Weapons skins not working
warthog64 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I was able to get the AGM-158 from SF2 working in WOE, except for one thing the skin of the weapon. I know all the differences between 1st and 2nd generation weapons but is there any way I could get this to work? Not a big deal though if there isn't a way Thanks -

Screen resolutions in WOE
warthog64 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I recently got a new computer to replace my previous one which had a motherboard failure. Anyway the screen is very different compared to my former computer when playing WOE. I use Catalyst Control Center with the game and everything looks fine except everything looks shortened and flatter when viewed in the verticle and longer for the horizontal. I did not have this issue with my former computer yet all of the settings were the same; also the sytem specs were very similar. Here are some screen shots for an idea of what I mean. My previous computer did not distort the game like this one does, and since I'm not a graphics/computer expert by any means does anyone have an idea what causes this and how to fix it? Right now I'm using a standard 4:3 setting for the game as the 16:9 one seems to make everything shortened no matter what direction (I used the same settings with my old computer). Thanks for any help my new computer specs are VISION Technology by AMD Featuring AMD Turion II dual-core mobile processor M500 2.2GHz 16" TFT-LCD widescreen HD TruBrite® Display / ATI Radeon 4200 graphics 4GB DDR2 Memory / 320GB Hard Drive / DVD SuperMulti with Labelflash Built-in webcam with microphone / Built-in 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit -

Screen resolutions in WOE
warthog64 replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The screen resolution is 1366x768 and the game is set to the same resolution already, not sure why it's not working? Also when you say jacking what exactly do you mean? Thanks for your help! -
Very interesting, I had no idea they were employed even that often!

Great posts ezlead, it's great to hear veterans such as yourself share their stories. Also how common were SA-7 attacks in 1972? Were they used pretty much everywhere the NVA fought in both North and South Vietnam? I have heard from my father that MANPAD's are one of the toughest defences to counter over the battlefield. Thanks

Wings of Prey, Looks Good to me.
warthog64 replied to rotagen's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
This game is definitely one of the best ever, I just purchased it and the only complaint I have is it doesn't seem to work with Catalyst Control Center for ATI so the graphics are kinda bad. But the game is awesome! -
I just purchased Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds, and so far it's definitely the best Fighter Pilot memoir/biography I've ever read. Even if you aren't a history or military buff this book is a must read for anyone who wants to know more about one of the greatest military leaders of all time. Trust me you won't be dissapointed. Also, I paid $32.00 for it at Barnes and Noble, but I just saw it on Amazon for $17.81 so definitely get it there if you choose to buy it.

Incredible Book! You have to read this

I'll have to get this one next! -
I can't remember the exact source from which I initially learned that the NVA had SA-3 sites in 1972-73. However I found this link today which apparently shows an SA-3 site in North Vietnam, but I'm not sure of the whole story. I don't think the SA-3 was ever used in any medium to large scale though. http://www.militaryi....php/photo/5107

Yeah you're right, the NVA recieved their first examples in 1973 I believe.

In terms of the technological advances offered by the newer aircraft, I do think they would have been very successful in BVR air to air combat. However by 1968 the war in Vietnam had already been "lost" due to the way politics controlled the war (we all know this story of course). So technology would probably have not been a "war winner" like it was to a certain degree in Desert Storm. I do agree though that the F-15, F-14, A-10 etc would have wreaked havoc on supply lines, oil, and transportation, and in addition to achieving air superiority would have halted the North Vietnamese advance dramatically. I do think the A-10 with its precision guided munitions, and fantastic CAS ability would have made a difference in the ground war in the south, but the determination and high morale of the NVA, and VC as well as their incredible ability to use stoneage style tactics effectively against modern technology(1966-1975 era) would still probably have lead them to victory even in 1978. But it is a very interesting thing to consider, I'll admit I've thought about this before many times.

Jug pilot position?
warthog64 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What are the correct numbers in the P-47d-20_data.ini to position the pilot in the center of the cockpit. I just ask because I wanted to add a seat in the cockpit, and with the pilot in the current position a large part of the seat sticks out of the starboard side of the canopy. Here's a picture to show how the pilot is currently positioned. Thanks -

Badger's and Blinder's not working.
warthog64 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In my installation of WOE I just noticed that not a single Tu-16 or Tu-22 variant will work. This includes both the stock and add on models. I'm not sure how long this has been the case as I have not flown or encountered these aircraft in a mission in quite a while, but just now noticed it. Every other aircraft works fine but whenever I choose to fly a Tu-16 or 22 the game quits working/stops responding. Any Suggestions Thanks -
