  1. Hi out there to all the FM guru's !! Did a lot of searching in archives and knowledge bases, both here and at other sites but couldn't find the right answers. At the normal operating altitude in single mission (18000 ft +) the Tu 16 Badger cruises at around 450 kts and the good old Hunter FmkVI (yes, the original one) doesn't stand a chance of intercepting, because not even when diving at the Badger, the speed goes over something like 430 kts. Apart from that, according to to most of my books, the Hunter does something like 625 kts (M 0.938)at the deck. By fiddling around with reference area's, CDo's and CDl's I managed to get something like 590 kts at low level and maybe 440 kts at altitude.. So either the Hunter is basically modelled too slow (max speed at altitude M 0.95) or maybe the Tu16 is a bit overmodelled for speed (cruise speed about Mach 0.8, max. speed M 0.91 according to the books) What would be the best way to cure this, because intercepting bombers with the Hunter in a 1960 - 1965 scenario is great fun with its mighty battery of 4 30mm Aden guns..... Aju, Derk
  2. Happy anniversary !!! After playing Air Warrior II (with Sabres and MiG 15's and a LOT of props, loads of fun), Jane's USAF and a bit of Flanker, I stumbled on an early SFP1 (probably just after the Wallmart version) for E 10,= in a toy shop. Like Sony, the F104G immediately caught my attention and the fact that it could be flown with RNlAF roundels did it...... (together with all the activity at internet and all the mods and extra planes available, thanks for getting me on the old SimHq forum Dave) The CD of the original version cracked and I bought a later version with all the documentation about 2 years ago. And now ? Still having a go every night, still doing some mods on my install very night, still fascinated every night...... Aju, Derk
  3. Summer in Scotland ? Aju, Derk
  4. Thanks Fracture, nice addition, Aju, Derk
  5. Quite brilliant Skippybing !! Your post at SimHq from october 09 2005 (#2039085) did not contain much about actual fuel capacity , but -more important - you made it possible to activate the fuselage fuelcell. I did not experiment with actual fuel weights in the loadout yet, but without your addition of "[system 13]= FuselageFuelCell1" to the fuselage systems, the fuel would probably be useless.... Thanks a lot, Aju, Derk
  6. Agreed, but the small amount of available fuel is less a matter of range (cruising out at maybe 450 kts, at low throttle settings) but very important in combat using AB , in high speed dashes, or - if you like it- in airshow routines, where your fuel is gone far too quickly.... The higher fuel amount IMHO also gives you a more realistic thrust-weight ratio. Aju, Derk
  7. Flying the FMk6 inspired me to do a little research in the the basics of the data.ini. Two things stand out: - I guess the min./max deflection of the ailerons right / left should be the same ? (+30/-30) - the total fuel weight amounts to a VERY meagre 1.865 kgf / 4.091 lbs / 2.375 l (even a MiG 21 has more!) while according to the books (Modern Combat Aircraft 5 "BAC Lightning") the total amount available is 2.209 kgf in the ventral tank/fuselage and 2.579 kgf in the wing tanks making a total of 4782 kgf / 10.542 lbs/ 6.236 l ..... At a fuel consumption rate of about 20 gallon/ minute at tactical speeds and 200 gallon/ minute at full AB (the Lightning was considered THE gas guzzler ....)this does make quite a difference (as well in handling) These changes are very easy to make in the data.ini and will improve your range/endurance quite a bit... Aju, Derk
  8. Thanks a lot X-Ray, a job well done, the Vulcan deserves it !! Aju, Derk
  9. Thanks a lot, fun, makes pretty pictures too !!! Aju, Derk :nyam:
  10. And in Jane's USAF at least you had to put it on..... Derk :scout:
  11. Hello Tank, I JUST REALIZED (STUPIDLY, SINCE I'VE BEEN PLAYING SFP1 FOR YEARS) that I put the speech.ini in the speech folder instead of the flight folder........ One is never too old to read ( ) Thanks for putting me on the right track, Aju, Derk
  12. I have reinstalled the "Comm" mod a couple of times (even the original one from a couple of years ago) but it doesn't seem to work anymore.... Anybody any idea ??? Thanks Derk
  13. For the REAL F8 lovers, try this: www.pozefilm.de/classicjet.html Click on "Crusader" and you see a fantastic two ship demo by French Navy F8's at an International Air Tattoo at Fairford UK, the last Crusaders on this earth being flown with characteristic bravado and showing the performance of this Golden Oldie ............. Enjoy, Derk
  14. Was it a very suitable moment to bring out the Vulcan, now that XH558 is flying again or is it the other way around....... Great thing that there is one in the air again, can't wait to see it in action !!!!!! Aju, Derk
  15. A Vulcan taking off was often compared to a stampeding herd of elephants !!!!!!!! Together with the "blue note" of the Hunter and the "Banshee howl" of the F104 sounds to remember........... Aju, Derk :nyam: :nyam: :nyam:
  16. There is even more to this "aluminium overcast" as it was sometimes called: take her up to 60000 (!) ft and try her out: rock stable and controllable (with even some buffeting when cornering) at an indicated airspeed of about 165 kts at 100% power......... Those were altitudes a B52 could never reach, let alone use operationally and a lot of Cold War fighters were unable at that speed and altitude to manoeuvre into a firing position. Maybe the roll rate could use a bit of reduction, but for the rest this is truly a wonderfull flying machine with an equally wonderfull FM !!!!!!!!!!!!! Vulcan for Aju, Derk
  17. Ever seen THIS at an airshow or in action from the QRA pad ??? THIS IS IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Capun, Wrench, Kesselbrut, Russo and Geo, one of the greatest additions EVER !! Aju, Derk V for
  18. I recently reinstalled Werners (wonderfull) F 111 cockpit. I removed the last install (and in the process lost all the Aardvarks in the single mission menu) because the pit alone took up a mighty 6 GB of hard disc space. The new install for some reason takes no less than 18.1 GB (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) which may be more than the computerpower used in the real life cockpit and in any case more than my whole SFP1 file...... Everything works fine again but I wonder what everyone elses experience is with this cockpit. I use a lot of F111's (A,C,D,E,F, FB, etc), that's for sure, but where did I go wrong ??? Aju, Derk
  19. I think you did a great job, but I wonder if it is possible to take your extra airfields and put them into the "normal" Germany CE terrain. Colmar but especially Leeuwarden (2 Sq F16 MLU + the museum Hunter T7!, ex F104, ex Hunter), Eindhoven (ex F84F, NF5, F16 and now 334 Transport Sq with C130H & KDC10 among others) are nice to have on any European terrain. With "Apeldoorn Airfield" you probably mean Deelen AB (ex RF84F and F104 deployment base, now on sort of care & maintanance and use as a training area for the Airmobile Brigade). It is actually a bit closer to Arnhem but not very far from Apeldoorn either. As said above, it would be great to have those extra airfields in other terrains. Aju, Derk
  20. In fact the European scheme was very rare in Europe. AFAIK only a couple of Wild Weasel F4 G,s at Spangdahlem AB got it in the end and even that was changed into grey tones before everything was withdrawn. Never saw any F4 D's or E's with it over here. The A 10's flew with it a bit longer. Aju, Derk
  21. Hi Muesli, "You don't let the grass grow over it, do you?" Dank je wel, Derk
  22. Hey Muesli, If you need any support, help, pics or whatever on the Dutch Hunters, just say it !!! The museum is nearby and a lot of info is available too, Aju, Derk
  23. Now, thats GREAT fun Muesli. Just one suggestion:could you make the squadron badge on the tail somewhat bigger !! For the rest great addition , thanks a lot. Aju, Derk
  24. Nice thought Kevin, gonna look it up in the aviation megastore not far from my office. Could only find it mentioned once on internet, but the question is that everything flying, including DC2 and DC 3 's were in full use in those hectic days, bringing people out to Australia (many hair raising stories, including the Broome disaster......) so I wonder if there were any spare engines at all ........ Aju, Derk :scout:
  25. Hi Muesli, Looking good, but maybe try somewhat smaller roundels on the P40 and P51 fuselages. Keep up the good work !! If you need specific help (pics from the Air Force Museum or otherwise) just say so, Aju, Derk
