Skyraider Prop renders behind clouds w/ Green Hell 2
malibu43 replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The reason I assumed it was associated with GH2 was that I tried the stock terrain with Widesky and the issue went away. Also, changing the render in order option for Alpha Objects in the GH2 _data.ini fixed the problem (or changed it at least). Maybe it's not a widesky or GH2 problem, but only an issue when those two are combined together. I didn't try stock clouds with GH2. And looks like I was wrong about the YAP2 thing. I don't have YAP so I probably shouldn't have made that statement. -

One thing I noticed is that they don't have that problem in YAP2 (from the screen shots I've seen), but I have no idea how they accomplished that and I doubt it's information that will be shared. -

VIETNAM 1984
malibu43 replied to Phil S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Well, I should update that; it will actually work with SP5. The only real issue is that the harriers won't land on the Tarawa and have to be relocated to Da Nang, and one of the AIM-120 models needs to be switched out or it won't show up. Maybe I'll update it... As far as including the aircraft, I could easily do that. It would just increase the size of the file to be included on the CA server, and I would have to get permission for all the aircraft... Can one of the CA admins let me know if including the aircraft in the download would be frowned upon due to file size? *edit* - who am I kidding? Unfortunately, I'm not going repack the whole thing with aircraft included, cuz then I'd have to do weapons, effects, etc... as well. With NF4 and ODS available, there's no reason for me to do that. Not to mention I'd have to get so many permissions... I will go back and make the few corrections necessary to make it SP5 compatible, though. -
Flak in WoV

Ahhh.... That's really sneaky to hide that in the sound mods section. Thanks! -

Not to toot my own horn, but if you like Vietnam 1984, also take a look at Linebacker III in the campaign downloads section. It's a mid-90's vietnam confilict with some more modern aircraft. -
Flak in WoV
malibu43 replied to SandyC's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks Fubar and James. Sounds like flak is probable enough for me to just leave "AAA" entries in the targets file and not create new types and entries for small caliber AAA only. One more slightly releated question - is there a sparate flak effect for 37mm and 57mm flak available any where (small white puffs, I've heard)? I tried using the "pom pom" effect out of Dueces (I think it was Dueces) WWII effects, but for the life of me couldn't get it to work. Is there another one out there? How hard would it be to whip one up? -

You mentioned in the other thread (at SimHQ) that you're using SF2:V. I don't think that mod was made for SF2:V. It's made for WOV. The mod folder structure for SF2:V is very different. Long story short, I think you need WOV, not SF2:V. -
A Bug with Green Hell 2 or New Textures?
malibu43 replied to Stretch32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I changed the lines in bold below to True from False, and it fixed the "trees through clouds" bug for me. ... [AlphaObjectTextureMaterial] DepthBufferCheck=TRUE DepthBufferWrite=TRUE ... I had the tree-cloud problem with the first fall and winter tree and tile sets when using the blending option. I got this fix from one of the alternate data.ini's supplied with those mods. -
Flak in WoV
malibu43 replied to SandyC's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
One more question: Would one see 37mm flak, 57mm flak, or even larger flak over S. Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia around the Ho Chi Min Trail and other busy areas? Or would you just see smaller automatic AAA, with the flak being reserved for N. Vietnam? -
New Mission Packs for Vietnam.
malibu43 replied to 331Killerbee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Comrpnt and KB, I hope you make these in such a way that they're compatible with both the latest patches and the previous one. My WOV install is still only patched to '06 so that I can still run campaigns (Noi Bai strike bug in '08 patches), but I am eagerly awaiting these mission packs! PM me if there's anything I can help with. -
pasko_pak_desert + pasko_euro_pak in SFG Oct2008b?
malibu43 replied to AGOSTINO's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can install both packs, but the game won't switch between desert and euro depending on the map. It will randomly use either or both. Also, make sure you installed them in the ground objects foler (per the install instructions), not in your terrain folders. -
I am looking for an Infantry mod, or pack, that is compatible with SFG oct 2008b?

Look through the downloads section under ground objects. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5350 -
WOE 2009 (Operation Bear Hunt)
malibu43 replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
EricJ, I've taken up Mt Biking as my most recent hobby, and the simming/modding time will take a pretty big hit as a result. I'll try and help out if I can, but it looks like you have quite the following here to get it done... What you've got going now looks like way more fun than what I had originally worked on... -
nato fighters 3
malibu43 replied to viper11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No. They have their own weapons packs, which would conflict and cause problems. I'm sure there would be other issues as well. -
New Mission Packs for Vietnam.
malibu43 replied to 331Killerbee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Will these missions be designed to run on a more or less "stock" install, or will multiple objects and terrain additions be required for each set of missions? For me personally, I think having to make a minimal number of modifications to my install would really make me much more tempted to download and use. -
You know they did that one, right? For some reason it's not on youtube, but they did it.

Napalm as cluster bombs
malibu43 replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Great work! This is something I'd noticed as well. Even against infantry (in-game) one would need almost a direct hit to get a kill. The rest of the squads would get swallowed by the huge fire ball but not be effected. -

The craziest thing just happened. All that testing I did trying to get hit by flak and I couldn't get it to happen. I was doing all my testing with the latest patch. Just flew a strike in WOV (old patch) and on my 3rd pass (yeah, I know...) I got drilled by 57mm. The log just said shot down, but I was in external view when it happened and I didn't see any tracers and wasn't that low. The gun was the KS-60 (or S-60) from the DS mod w/o any other values changed. I'm wondering if the flak was a little more effective with the old patch...? -
WOE 2009 (Operation Bear Hunt)
malibu43 replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Well, here's the thread that talks about what I originally started: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=37899 All I did was take the Red Lightning campaign from WOE and change out the aircraft in all the air units for aircraft listed in my post. Still needs the F-35B to be considered finished... don't know what the status is on that... As far as the back story, I was just kind of pretending the Cold War never ended. I know the red aircraft I selected might not fit any one scenario perfectly, but those seemed to be the highest quality "red" aircraft that I could find, so I used those. They just needed some loadout tweaks to work. It could be easily modified to take place a little closer to the present. Don't know if/when I'll have time to get it done and put on the finishing touches. EricJ, you have the campaign files... you want to take a stab at it? PS - Black Sea terrain would be fun too. Does anyone have any campaigns written with strategic nodes and all that? That's the part I've never done from scratch. -

Man... you're like one week late on this discussion... http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=39219 No matter what changes and tweaks I made, I never got hit. I did add a FireCan, I think it was from the ODS mod, and networked it with the S-60, KS-12, KS-19, and KS-30. Still never got hit though... -
Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam is Released!

Even if you remove them all together (ie - no runways or fuel tanks), you will still get tasked with hitting them (weird, huh?). -
Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam is Released!
malibu43 replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If you mean out of the campaign_data.ini files, yes. If you mean from the types.ini, then no. Although you'll notice, you get taksed to hit the fuel tanks at Noi Bai a lot as well, so even if you remove the runways from the offensive priorities and types.ini, you'll still get tasked other target types at Noi Bai. I'm not sure if I ever tried removing Noi Bai all together... I have a feeling I did and I just got tasked with striking Kep over and over again instead (basically which ever airfield has MiG's based at it). *edit* - Removed Noi Bai from from the targets.ini and things seemed to work a little better (got lots of SEAD and other strikes with the 13 TFS in RT, VF-24 got some A/A missions and not all strikes). I then moved the squadrons that were supposed to be at Noi Bai to Kep and then things were back to usual. Lot's of strikes on Kep, VF-24 getttings tasked with strikes only. -

malibu43 replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
WOV Oct '08, and now it appears SF2V as well, will do this regardless of target priorities in the campaign data. I have a feeling it has to do with the way campaign engine tries to assign missions near ground offensives and the fact that there aren't any ground offensives in WOV. I've tried a lot of different things to get rid of it with the '08 patch, but haven't had any luck. TK said he thinks it's because there aren't enough bases with MiG's in the campaigns, and that they were going to try and fix it in the "future" (I don't know if that was supposed to be another patch or SF2V...). Anyway, looks like it hasn't been fixed yet. That is why I still play WOV with the '06 patch. -

How are the campaigns? I'm assuming the issue where you get tasked to strike the Noi Bai runway all time is fixed...? Do the campaigns include CAS and Armed Recon now?
