Skippy, After your Sea Vixen's and Baffin, this is simply too good to be true. I can't wait to try this one on for size... how's it handle around the boat ? SB -
Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Sea Harrier FRS.1
sugarblues replied to ChrisBV's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Skippy... Don't you mean "anything that wasn't Extra Dark Sea Grey" ? The only MSG paint used was, as you said on the light-coloured a/c sent south as 809Sqn - MSG Uppers, with Barley Grey on the undersides of the wings/tailplanes. They even had 809's Phoenix on the tail, and standard RN titles in pale blue - but this was painted out when they were absorbed into 800/801Sqns. A/C numbers were added in black. SB -
Chopper problem in WoV
sugarblues replied to Jug's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm wondering if it's collision points ? With the new patch, we seem to be having issues with some of the add-ons wobbling on their feet, which could possibly mean while sitting on the runway they're actually registering a crash instead... Just a thought, that I haven't had time to check out yet... but it would explain why they're usable if you start in the air, but only explode if you start on the runway... SB -
WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?
sugarblues replied to smokey799's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Oops... looks like I've committed a major "Stupid Human Trick"... I just discovered that after I finished flying my C2 around, I forgot to switch the flightmodel setting back to hard. All my A4's are still blowing up using hard... :-( Ignore everything I've said up till now! SB -
WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?
sugarblues replied to smokey799's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well... I cranked the damping factor all the way up to 15 on the mainwheels of all my A4's - and can now land them all, with the exception of the TA-4. It's still rolling to the left upon hook engagement, falling through the deck and blowing up... hopefully I'll get some time to keep messing... SB -
Hi, I've long been fascinated by that conflict myself; I keep an old, non-patched version of SFP1 on my drive and constantly go back to refly the Iran-Iraq add-on campaign, in my opinion one of the best add-on campaigns we've ever had for the series. Schiffer Military history published a book by Tom Cooper on the Iran-Iraq Airwar; I've got a copy, and found it extremely interesting. Here's a URL that describes the book: http://www.schifferbooks.com/newschiffer/b...isbn=0764316699 SB

WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?
sugarblues replied to smokey799's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Drdoyo, I just took your advice - cranked the damping factor up, and was able to land an A4C without the twist, rollover, and explosion... thanks. SB -
WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?
sugarblues replied to smokey799's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In the meantime if you need a scooter trap fix - fly the A4A available here... I've just tested all my A4's on all my carriers, and I can confirm that the 3rd Wire based A4's are blowing up on landing, but the nice little A4A add-on is just humming along nicely on both stock and add-on boats... What a Past 3 Weeks!
sugarblues replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It really is something incredible. When you stop to think of all the personal effort that goes into the creation of these models, the time spent in research, mashing around in 3D programs, and the blood, sweat and tears that goes into creating these works of art - it really says a lot about the passion you all have for our hobby. And then the work that goes into keeping a site like CA running - man you folks ROCK! Thanks from a grateful simmer, lover of all things aeronautical, and somebody who's never ceased to be amazed by the generosity of the people that support all of us. Thanks, SB -

NEUTRAL side in a Campaign?
sugarblues replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
As Gepard says, I don't think it works. I tried adding a USN Battle Group as a "neutral" group to the Iran/Iraq Campaign mod. Never got it working right... SB -

Nice shootin' Fubar! I think my record is around 75nm while playing the Iran-Iraq campaign. Target was one of Saddam's Tu-16's... Never succeeded in getting my wingies to engage at that range though! SB -
There's plenty of photo's around of that aircraft. Go to the "Tomcat Alley" website - I think they have one on the site. SB

Your Most Successful Aircraft...
sugarblues replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
For me, it's always been the F8. I started off with the stock WoV version ( I was backwards - only got SFP1 after WoV). When my SFP1 copy arrived I ported the F8 over, and the same with WoE. The stock version was replaced by the original Gunfighters version, which recently gave way to the truly beautiful MF model. Sure, the Turkey has been a favourite, but I always, always end up blasting around in the "Last of the Gunfighters"... SB -
WOI - A/C Textures fuzzy on Unlimited
sugarblues posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi all, I just spent an hour rooting through the posts, in the knowledge base, and searching every word combination I could think of, and I still can't find the answer, so sorry if the answer to this question is "old news"... I haven't touched WOI in ages - still stick with WOV mostly, but decided to see how it looked with my new video card... With my old car the "Unlimited" setting in WOI sure looked good, but my machine bogged down too much, so I knocked the texture setting down to high - and everything was fine. After installing my new card, I switched the setting to unlimited - and the stock aircraft look absolutely awful... I know user-created aircraft are supposed to be on the high setting, but the stock a/c should look great... on high they do, but with the exception of the national markings, all the artwork is blurred to yuck... What the heck am I doing wrong... and sorry again for bringing up a question that was answered ages ago! SB -

Thanks Fubar512 - I remembered it was something simple like that - but for the life of me I couldn't remember which setting it was... SB -
So what do you fly?
sugarblues replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Even though I've got all the versions of the game, I still tend to stick with WOV... all those nights watching Walter Cronkite on TV with shots of F-4B's and F8's shooting off the deck nailed me in my childhood. But even then - the MF's F-14 is a big time favourite, for all the reason's everybody else has mentioned. But when it's all said and done, it comes down to two: The A-6, and the MF's F-8D... just gotta love guns only dogfights with Mig-17's... SB -
TMF Crusader Questions
sugarblues replied to gbnavy61's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi, The reversed sidewinder rails was a minor glitch in the first release - simply copy and paste the data.ini listing for the starboard side rails from a later release (F-8J etc.) into your file and you'll be good to go. The "black part" was simply black paint often used to hide APU exhaust stains - some squadrons would paint it up, others wouldn't. SB -
