Arleigh Burke class destroyer
Icarus999 replied to DoctorWho's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
That looks like it would make a fine addition to the blue side fleet. I bet Whiteboysamourai would work his Aegis magic on that model if we asked him. this would be a nice complement to his Ticonderoga class ships. -

Your kidding me right.... -
with a 12 gauge shotgun no less.... talk about a precision instrument. A few years ago a guy in japan was hospitalized with a gigantic live EEL up his ass that has huge teeth and was biting and chewing his intestines. there were pictures documenting the surgical removal of the EEL, they clearly showed the pissed off fishes teeth clamped into idiots bowels. I almost posted the whole story in one of the many EEL threads that were going on back then but I thought it might get me banned from the forum.... let me see if i can find that story.... I know I saved it .

Dude your black sea is one of my favorites. Have you given any thought re-tiling and foresting the northern black sea region of pureblue's huge Anatolia Map? As i said before there are areas on this gigantic map that were outside of pureblue's original focus... that could be re-tiled as lush forest in the north and varying types of desert in the south and east. -
Which game to buy
Icarus999 replied to TSgtT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Depends on what you already own, you can convert the aircraft and maps in the first gen games to be compatible with second gen games but there are nicer models of some aircraft and cockpits in the second generation games. If I were you I would upgrade to windows7 or Vista before I bought SF2... in order to take advantage of the improved graphics. People used to bitch about vista but I have vista 64 bit ultimate and I freaking love it.... once you learn to install the game in your users(your name) folder and figure how to put the slap down the UAC issues, Vista 64 ultimate Is great. -

I think it would be nice to have a separate version of this ship that can engage surface targets with its Tomahawks and Harpoons , even at the expense of losing the anti air capability. -

Pretty sure that I read a post stating that the tomcat game would introduce the new terrain engine while remaining compatible with other SF2 terrains, that was quite a while back though. -

No insult intended storm, but flight sims are the most strenuous test of any given graphics solution. You are running a flight sim on a very weak rig, and that is by definition asking for trouble. It sounds like we are coming at it from two different levels, you are playing on your travel rig.... I am playing on a full blown enthusiast system with top of the line cards / chipset/ ch pro rudders/ throttle/ stick and trackir. Surly you can see that I have made a huge investment because I know that flight sims kill weak computers and I want the best performance I can get. Do you really want the games to be "design limited " to run on low end machines.... or would you rather them be capable of stunning performance on a powerful desktop yet be able to dial them back and run low graphics settings on a laptop The stock terrains look horribly dated and if we want modern graphics ,we have to pay for strong computers, there is no getting around that fact. -

Well it is encouraging that TK listened and will give us the ability to set the fade distance... if you are reading this TK, please give us back our clouds.. And as far as auto patch my suggestion would be that the user should have to manually switch that feature on if or when they decide they want to move up to the next patch. I can see big problems ahead if the game automatically seeks out and patches itself. -
Advice please -2 installs at seperate patch levels?
Icarus999 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hey guys, Ive been looking in the KB, and asking some questions but I do not understand how to have more than one instal of SF2E patched to different patch levels. I have an heavily modded install that works great at the Feb 2010 patch level and I want to keep it as is because the newer patches ruin the clouds and have terrain fade issues. However I want to have a separate install with Exp2 and the latest patch to start experimenting with the new patch and perhaps will merge this with the tomcat sim when it comes out. The trouble with this would seem to be having separate mod folders and separate options ini files, that tell the game where to look for each patch levels mod folder I did see a thread about moving your mod folder to a different location and leaving the options ini in the saved games thirdwire folder but it seems that I would need a second "thirdwire" folder named "something else" to have a separate patch level install. Is anyone running multiple patch levels? Could ya help a brother out with a little advice:) -

Hey thanks man appreciate the input, I guess the safest way to prevent an unintentional overwrite is to go with a dual boot. -

I Don't think he knows what he is saying, anyone who tries to run a flight sim with out a quality graphics card is a fool. I personally run a Quad SLI rig, it was an investment , it was freaking expensive and I bought those cards for one reason... to run this sim at its full potential. I have made a huge monetary investment in all of the equipment required to get the most out of TK s sims and I find it funny that some one here feels the need to hide in the shadows and vote down my post simply because I have the balls to say what most of us thinking, but you know I can pretty much guess who that was. -

He is not listening to his customers, when it comes to the terrain/ cloud bug that has plagued the series, it seems like he is in his own little world. The reason I continue to buy and play these games is that guys like Stary turn the stock terrains into works of art. When the day comes that they can no longer do the magic that they do because they are locked out.... that is the day I stop buying these games. Once I got the all clear that EXP2 was finally fixed I rushed out and bought it, only to find out that TK had purposely hosed the beautiful clouds that make the game so great. Basically I threw away my money, I held out the hope that he would come to his senses and restore the clouds with a patch and I could eventually install and play EXP2, but it looks like he has taken his threat to hard code even farther with this patch. I keep hearing him say that every improvement will cost too much money and then I look at the terrains that guys like Stary and pureblue have created with much less resources than the developer has - only their love for the game and a copy of 3dsmax and I have to wonder. Maybe TK would be smart to bring some of these guys on board as contractors. -
Whoa dude...getting a little bent out of shape are we? Taking issue with bogus racially motivated holidays does not a bigot make...Settle down buddy Mkay.

First off the video seemed to bother my eyes... and the music was f***ing weird. The guitar and drums are pretty good, everything else blows hard. The synth is absolute noise/ garbage that ruins the song. And the vocals are that pathetic scremo mix of poorly done guttural growls and sugary sweet vocals that better suit a "boyband" out to sell records to pre- teen girls. I try not to be an A**hole when reviewing bands because I just got done writing, producing and engineering an Extreme metal album that will be released this summer... and I know from experience how much work goes into putting together and recording a good metal band (its a ton of work) but these guys have a bizarre sound .... so much so that I cant see how they went forward and spent the money to record this track as is.

looks very nice great work. It might be interesting to have a version with working harpoon launchers and no SAM's, as it would give us some variety for sea battles. Who knows whats in the works for the up coming tomcat release, perhaps we may get a big game engine upgrade?
