the P&W 1120 was a bad A** little engine that while quite a bit smaller and lighter than the J-79 had much better performance and fuel economy, the F-4's performance was so markedly improved with these engines that Mcdonnell douglass did everything in their power to kill the f-4 upgrade program- twice- first in 1984 when Boeing/P&W first developed the super phantom for the USAF as a way to upgrade Reserve and ANG phantoms, as well as the export market. Then again a few years later when Israel developed the kurnass 2000. The super phantom was seen as a serious threat to sales of the F-18/ F-15, as many nations who already operated the F-4 may have very well chosen to buy a few less f-15's and put the savings into upgrading the Phantoms they already owned. I remember a thread a while back about editing out parts of aircraft and editing in replacments. It was f-4 pylons if I remember right but it was applied to the Mirage Factory kurnass to remove the refuling probe... in order to get a standard f-4E with TIESO. Well I wonder how hard it would be to replace the J-79 cans with 1120's using that method if we had an animated model of the P&W1120 cans? just a thought...

If we could get the sea level issue fixed in the So Cal terrain that alone would be a big improvement, I really like that terrain. The cuba terrain would be great for mid eighties DACM/ Bear intercepts some new targets added to the map would be a nice touch as well.

Not to hijack the thread but this same company is making a 1/144 scale USS Nimitz on a custom order basis, a scale that is big enough to have great detail to the aircraft and their weapons with out being total over kill like the 1/72 Nimitz.

The phantom will always be my favorite but I have to give the crusader it's "props" it fully earned the nickname Mig Master, if you had to get into "knife range" dogfight in Vietnam the men who were there all say it was the best.

OK i can see how a random generated mission could load some weird object at the wrong time- like a hot dog stand- however my focus is creating scripted missions in the same fashion that YAP does. Now if one is smart about how they label the object like calling it "misc" instead of "tank" it is not as likely to show up where you don't want it. Lets be be clear about the guided bomb issue: what putting these targets in the ground object folder does is allow The AI flights to target and destroy said objects with guided weapons. The difference is spectacular, before i discovered this the AI would just fly around and never drop their bombs, now my missions are total carnage. i have had such good results with this that I seldom use the random generated or campaign features, so if doing this will screw up peoples campaigns perhaps the should have a separate install to try my methods. Oh and if any one decides to try this you must use CAS or armed Recon for your AI flights to target these objects with guided weapons, strike will not work.

Yes it should just load them as random targets in single mission play, sure beats the heck out of "destroy the enemy fuel tank" every other mission.

Irate residents of little diomede scrape relish and grey poupon from windshields whithin 20 block radius of blast. I second the motion for more buildings as targets, and if we can make them insertable as ground objects- not just terrain objects that would be outstanding. If you put a target in your ground objects folder and insert it via mission editor the AI flights can hit it with JDAMs/LGB/Mavericks or any other guided weapon. If you put it in the terrain they can only use dumb bombs.

Truley a shame Gocad, you have made a great contribution to the sim and this site.

Many months ago there was much speculation that the F-117 would be released/ included in this mod. Is there any truth to that?

There is a lot of stuff in the Bunny pack that I have not used- like the practice bombs or all of the obscure Yugoslavian /old Warsaw pact weapons but I like the variety. I'd rather have it and not use it than end up needing it and not have it. And to all of you guys who are modding weapons.... Thank you.

Wow Dave, it's like you read my mind, Thursday night I found a model review on the web for that decal set - heater ferris A-4 scheme, only the pattern was reversed to the right side.I surfed all over trying to find a copy for sale it was but long out of print. I was bummed out and went to bed. When i logged in Friday and you had uploaded it totally made my day. I might not be able to build it but now i can fly it ...and against it!!!! Thanks .

Funny thing is that VFP-63 did fly the F-8J as well as the RF-8G... so any one that gives you crap about that is talking out their butt!!! Your low vis/ tps VFP-skins for the F-8E/J are very nice If they can't appriciate them, screw em. By the way during the early eighties a plan was seriously considered to modernize and bring back the small decked carriers as part of the 600 ship navy. That plan called for pulling the f-8J out of mothballs, as the F-4 and the F-14 were to large to operate from their decks. this would have made for an interesting twist of history and some "what if " tactical camo skins representing some of the disbanded small deck carrirer squadrons as being "re commissioned" would be a cool thing for cold war gone hot scenarios.

Just for the sake of accuracy you may want to adjust the year slightly if you plan to include the F-21/ F-16N, but then again i like "What if scenerios" some times a tweeking the opperational dates can lead to some interesting gaming( like F-8J's operating into the mid eighties). also if the mid eighties are the target era you might consider adding the F-18A , the F-4S phantom , AV-8A/B to the mix and /or a visiting Air force F-15A/C sqadron. just my humble suggestions .
