I noticed in the 1915 version, solo missions seem to have long, out of the way, routse that, if I follow them, cause me to run out of gas over the ocean before, I get ot the target.. My solution is to ignore any part of the route that doesn't take me directly to the target. Taht works, but is there a more acceptable solution?

My OFF Alsace-Lorraine-Vosges Cockpit Map

I've been flying campaigns using the Google maps. It's easy to get lost . Is there a way to download your Alsace map? -
What is the #1 feature you would like to see in P4?

I'd just like to see the ac added that show up in red when choosing a campaign period. -
I just stumbled across Gorrell's History of the U.S. Airservice. It's an original report found on Footnote.com. I haven't seen it mentioned before Definitely worth looking at.

I just received the autumn issue of Over the Front. It features the 27th Aero and the fate of Frank Luke's wingman, Ivan Roberts. It's a great publication and I would encourage anyone to subscribe. but, the articles inspired me to enlist a pilot and start a campaign. Sure enough, most of the names I read in the articles were in the squadron roster - all but my wing man, Josiah Ford. I tried to find a 27th roster without success to see if he really existed. Anyhow, I'm on my third pilot (so much for my skill level). Both were captured - the first was shot down behind the lines by an aircraft (a DR-1 or a D-VII) I never did see. The second was the one I'm most curious about. It was a long boring mission, so I practiced some snap-rolls. The result was wing damage which resulted in a crash landing and capture. My question it this; Besides snap-rolls, what should one have a care for when flying the Nieuport-28 in combat?

I've a question about throttle control on WWI radial engines. Were they all controlled by blipping, or were some hand throttle controlled? I've noticed that some of radial ac have a cockpit throttle lever which will move in response to my joystick throttle. Anyone know?

RAF_Louvert, Thanks for pointing me to the thread. It was very interesting. I'm going to try the magnetos to see what happens. -

I was talking about rotary. Thanks for your answer. I'll take it as definitive and keep blipping. -
I've been enjoying the videos people have made of flights and fights in OFF. I've noticed a couple of differences between what I see in the videos and what happens when I'm in the air over the front. First, the videos show tracers and strike flashes on the target aircraft. I don't see tracers, or strikes, when I'm on target- a puff of smoke when I hit. Secondly, when I fire, the aircraft snap-kicks to the left after a couple of rounds. Now, I thought the kicks were meant to simulate the control shortcomings of those aircraft, but I don't see anything like that in the videos, I'm wondering if there is a mod, or file I've missed hat needs to be activated to show tracers and strikes. And, I'm wondering about the cause of the left snap-kick. Anybody able to help?

Winston DoRight and Barkhorn1x, You were right! Between my son and me, we solved the problem before I saw your last e-mail. It did have to do with the conflict between the pedals and the twist pedal function in the joystick. What I did, for any who might have the problem in the future, was to go into the control panel, bring up my custom controls panel and remove the "rudder axis" command from the flight control section. Worked like a charm and flies like a dream! I've been flying OFF for over a year with that pedal problem and never realized what was going on. I figured it might have to do with reproducing the flying characteristics of that era's aircraft. Let me add that the solution was in the FAC and this forum. I've become a believer; "If there's a problem, it's been written about." Thanks for your help.

Multiple CS3 installations
jlan5031 replied to themightysrc's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Part of the problem is solved. I threw caution to the winds, renamed the game folder and cfs3.exe to OFFMAW and it worked. I nolonger have to enable and disable to get the two versions to work separately. However, the first time for each, I get the "mission failed" message. I can get by it, as before, but I don't know what's causing it. Any ideas? -
Multiple CS3 installations
jlan5031 replied to themightysrc's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
I need some help, please. I got interested in RAF_Louvert's desert combination OFF/MAW modification. I was pointed in the right direction to download MAW. Having done so, I found the stock MAW 3.1 interesting enough to keep for itself. I made a copy, disabled it, and modified the original to the OFF version (all done with a lot of appreciated help). Now I have three separate versions, OFF, OFF/MAW, and MAW. To switch between the MAW and OFF/MAW versions, I need to disable one and enable the other. Otherwise, I'm afraid I'll mess the games up when I click on the MAW short cuts. When the switch has been made, the enabled game loads improperly, and a window appears stating a mission failed to load. I discovered if I just went ahead and clicked on the Quick Combat tag, the game righted itself, played normally, and from then on would load properly. The help, I'd like, is information about how to go into the files and folders in the OFF/MAW version, change the cfs3.exe, into another name, so that it will load separately from the stock MAW version. I don't know if I can do that. If that's possible, is the next step to change the game folder's name to the same? Sorry for the long-winded explanation. -

RAF_Louvert Well, you were right. It was in the aircraft folder. I did as you suggested. At first I couldn't find the two OFF ac I added. It wasn't until I re-added all the OFF ac that the US flag appeared in the selection and I was able to find and select OFF ac.. So what I ended up doing was to reinstall everything following your directions, and now everything seems to work. I still haven't seen the OFF hangers, but maybe they'll show up in my planned wanderings. Anyway, thanks again for your help. You've really done a good job! -
The RFC and the Senussi Campaign, Egypt
jlan5031 replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, I downloaded and installed MAW 3.1, and it works well. However, when I modified if to accept OFF, it balked. I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions, step by step, but the outcome has been that the OFF modded MAW starts up, goes through the first smaller MAW title page, then into the CFS-3 intro story. After that the larger MAW title page appears, and then the program crashes to the Desktop. I do have a couple of questions. First, in the aircraft folder in original MAW there are two "shared folders. One is "shared,"a and the other is "Shared hires Lores cockpit textures." Would that cause a problem? I disabled the "Hires" folder for no effect. The second concern the two "sound" files in the main MAW folder "sounds.xml" and "sounds.xm_." Would that cause a conflict in the OFF modded MAW? Any ideas? -

Beard, Thank you for your reply. I tried for over a week to find a source and failed. I'm glad it was there somewhere. -

I guess there's no way for a newcomer to download MAW any longer? -
I'm hoping someone knows of a map or maps from the U.S. Airservice operations in 1917-18 Toul/Nancy area and will point me in the right direction.

I've just noticed some of the German aircraft can't be accessed. Neither Quick Combat nor Campaign menus will allow Halberstat II/III, Pfalz, Albatross, aircraft to appear. Everything seems to load normally, but instead of arriving at the field, the screen returns to its respective start page. I'm updated to HITR 1.47. I haven't added anything extra to OFF. I've tried new pilots and dates without success. Does anyone have any helpful ideas?

I thought you might like to hear the end of the story. I was looking over the installation instructions and realized I had been pretty relaxed about following the directions. Since nothing else worked, I uninstalled and reinstalled all following the directions. Now all works as it should. Thak you for all the help.

How would I go about a "reset?" I don't know when there was a time when the Halberstadt worked properly. Is that important?
-
Very interesting solution, and my thanks for it. The Halberstadt appeared and was flown in the CFS3 config. mode, but it wouldn't appear in the Campaign mode or the regular Quick Combat mode. So, the ac doesn't appear to be disabled, it just seems not to be connected to the latter two programs. Any ideas? Incidentally, in my innocence, I used my Pup pilot, and upon landing at a German field, he was captured.

And, yes, I did reconfigure and noticed nothing out of the ordinary.
