Did somebody say he wanted...
ndicki replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Good thinking on that decal! I'll see what I can do. There'll be a boatload of decals, because most of the technical markings are decalled rather than painted on. Admittedly, this model didn't carry them, but would anyone be able to do a set of WGr 21s? In THIS sim, it must surely be possible to make an unguided projectile which explodes after covering some 1200 metres. You may remember them from CFS1 - they wreaked utter havoc! Edit - Got the gunsights. That adds yet another dimension - the cockpit really needs repainting. It needs to be RLM 66 rather than 02... -

Not to worry... Can't do everything! I've just got the gondolas and fuel tank to redo and we're off. I'll try and do a few if I get the time - the basic model can do G-6/AS, G-14/AS, G-10 and K-4, so there should be a few paint schemes worth knocking out. Once I've got the initial release version finished, it should be easy enough. I've just finished a series of G and K types for CFS3 - 54 of them to be precise, from the G-2 through G-4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 14 to the K-4, including reconnaissance versions and so on....... Horrifying, isn't it? -

It wasn't! Exploded on the runway. And in any case, yours is very good and perfectly convincing, so it's only me being CFS-ish! Releasing soon - but do you remember which bit the elevator trim tabs are mapped to? I can't find it for love or money... Which means they are light grey like the underside, not red or camouflage colour as they should be. My only problem! -

Yes, he did, so in theory I can upload it without further ado. But I do like to ask... The cockpit is Kesselbrut's, and he didn't. And as the AvHistory people did a flight model for the Bf109g-10 DCM for Wolf's 109, I'm actually wondering how to put them together. That side of things is a complete unknown to me... -

(Monty, empty your mailbox!) -
One of these? It's Monty's S-99, with a reworked skin based on the S-199 templates Monty sent me when he released the aircraft. I've done a bit of fiddling and tweaking to make it a credible Bf109g-10, but the credit really goes to him. Obviously, the ideal would be to release it as a full stand-alone, if everybody agrees. With TK's Spitfires and Mustangs, that gives us a nice little selection of the most important fighters of 1944-45.

I'd buy it like a shot if I could get it home! I live in France... It's just the thing for flightsimming!

Hunter gear doors missing
ndicki replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Oh blast, I'm in the wrong forum... Apologies all round, and you're right about the question having been asked already. It would help if I looked in the right place... -
Hunter gear doors missing
ndicki replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
More than likely! I did do a search, but they never seem to work too well... Anyway, I've found the problem - the latest expansion changed the data.ini and the model, so any previous stand-alones now don't - notably Spinners' stuff and my Rhodesian Sidewinder Hunter... Off to work... Updates - AAARGH! -
I've just noticed something very odd - the stock Hunters (Fully merged plus all expansions, updated to latest version) don't have gear doors when viewed from below - just bloody great hole through the wings. And they do have what appear to be RP rails that shouldn't be there. I know they didn't use to do this... Does anybody have the explanation, or have I messed something up again - which would surprise me in this particular case. since I haven't touched the "issue" ones. They all do it except I think for the stock F6. I think... Anyway, take a look:

Getting much closer. In fact in a lot of places, I've been putting in details, such as the hinges running along the centreline of the upper engine cowling, that SF simply can't render... Just got the drop tank to finish, and that's the basic template done. Remember, all the hard work was done by Monty himself - getting all the panel lines in place, etc, etc. All I've done is fiddle around with it a bit! In case you're wondering, the terrain is "Nothingness" but with CFS2 water textures substituted. It's great for short-load-time testing as advertised, but has a bit more visual impact than the original. I just wish I knew how to get rid of the runways... Every time I try, it all locks up!

Latest SF2 patch, for info
ndicki replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
I think that the FM thing could perhaps be solved by getting GregoryP of AvHistory onto the team. The problem of course is that this group no longer speaks to that group (I'm not pointing at anyone, since I wasn't here when the disagreement took place) and so it's next to impossible to release coherent user-friendly updates... -

Look on the bright side! At least you know enough about it to figure that out. I'd have been going round in circles for weeks... Actually, amend that. I have been going round in circles for weeks. There's something about this nations limitations thing that doesn't seem to agree with me. -

This is odd... OK, so what about Plan B, where you make Japan attachment type = WP. I assume that any WW2 install will be pure WW2 and not all mixed in with other things - mine is pure - so this should be risk free. If WP works with a plethora of nasty nations from around the world in modern SF, then it should work with IJA, IJN and Manchukuo. Any Russian aircraft would stay with Soviet, and generic allied NATO. Seems logical to me... -
Once I get the original S-199 sorted out, yes, I'd like to have a go there too! Here's what I've been doing to the S-199; not immediately obvious, but then Monty's originals were already very good! Trying to give things a bit more volume with shading and highlighting, among other things. One wing is already half-done, the other I haven't touched.

I know most of the WW2 fliers are using the old SF1 platform, but you still might like to know that the latest SF2 patch brings the Spitfires and the DC-3 up to speed with the complete set of LODs that were missing in the original pack. I've just been up with some 20+ Spits in the air and it didn't stutter once...

Government cuts? Honestly, no - never seen that before. I'm interested to know what has caused it, too. -
Luftwaffe marking question...
ndicki replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
And there was a reshuffle within the organisation of bomber (Ju87) units when the number of Staffeln in a Gruppe passed from three to four, and the number of Gruppen in a Geschwader passed from four to five... It gets complicated, like everything else in the Luftwaffe!
