To TrackIR or not to TrackIR, that is the question
luckyluca replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
don't get the trackClipPro, it isn't worth it. For the price difference get a trackir5 with hat and vector clip. I had to return the trackClipPro because it felt so fragile (you can almost break it by just looking at it) and I was getting the same smooth response with the vector clip -
Italian and southern europe air forces
luckyluca replied to X RAY's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Hello, I would be very much interested in a balkans mod for sf2:e. I think the reason why Italy and other countries were left out is that sf2:e is based on the german terrain and only covers north-easter europe. As far as I know somebody was developing a nice balkan terrain and that could definitely be a nice addition to nato fighters or even better a stand alone mod I can't wait to fly the f-104 ami :) ciao Luca -

Amazing mod thank you, all good so far except for the tornado ids, I get this weird long streak down to the ground, perhaps you have an idea what's causing it? -
SF2V / WOV Air & Ground Expansion Packs
luckyluca replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Thanks Eric, I'll do that. Regarding the optional items, since I have a merged installation of sf2:v+sf2:e (no sf2), could you please point me to which items include and which skip based on my setup? unfortunately I can't figure it out from the readmes. here's the list from my documents vietnam mod folder, before installing the expansion pack: Directory of D:\documents\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam\Objects\Aircraft SF2V / WOV Air & Ground Expansion Packs
luckyluca replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Hello, Could you pls help me out as I'm confused on the optional sections of the installation. I have both sf2:v and sf2:e patched to june installed onto the same directory d:\thirdwire\sf2. Both the vietnam and europe executable generated their own mod data structures in my documents folder. When in the readme you refer to "merged" do you mean merged mod directory or merged game directory? I'm asking because I wanted to install the brand new NF4+ and it also says it's compatible with merged installations and can't figure out whether it refers to merged mod folders or merged game folder (in the latter case I assume each mod would sit in its own structure sf2va&gp2 in the vietnam mod folder and fn4+ in the europe mod folder) Thanks for the clarification Luca -

purchase of flaming cliffs

Hello, I wanted to purchase flaming cliffs and having sold lockon a few years ago I was wondering if FC contained lockon as well. I'm asking because on the simware website it says that FC contains all the capabilities of the "LockOn: Modern Air Combat" game. Thanks for the clarification Luca -

Luca

Hello, I can't decide btw these two joysticks and was wondering your opinions (bear in mind I'll have to program the rudder to one of the 4ways hats). Also have you heard of the t.16000 thrustmaster? it claims no deadzone and up to 16 times the resolution against all other joysticks because of their new magnetic technology. Thanks Luca

Populating the stock Airbases
luckyluca replied to PureBlue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hey Comrpnt, thanks you made my day! I would be happy to do a couple of tests, considering I'm not too fussy about proper taxi ordering, especially since ramp startup is much better than runway start :) what tools do you use to edit the airbases and what file do you edit / extract ? lastly have either you or Luca from Yap found a way to start the mission with engines off? Thanks Luca -
Populating the stock Airbases
luckyluca replied to PureBlue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I'm a bit confused now, are these extra objects applied to the default airbases or not? In other words is it possible to apply them to the stock dynamic campaigns in SF2E? If so, has anybody ever managed a workaround to the startup position so that we could start the game on the ramp and possibly with engine off? If this is not possible, how does yap achieve that? ...I assume yap comes with its own custom airbases and runway start positions extended down to where the ramp is :) the only question is how does it handle wingmen? Hope it makes sense Luca -

luckyluca replied to PureBlue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
That's really cool guys!!!! Is there any way to start from the ramps with engines off instead of the runways with engines on? I was thinking about dirty tricks (such as somehow treat the ramps as a runway extension? :) -
What Add-Ons do you find SF2(V) benefits from the most?
luckyluca replied to stingray77's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey Jomni, what I did in the end was bringing all the widesky files in photoshop and scale them down to a more manageable size, I now am getting a similar look and much much better performance. as a rule of thumb I scale down the 2Mb images to 256Kb -
It's funny how different reactions you can get by saying to a girl "I'm a pilot" or "I'm a virtual pilot".... not too much luck with the second so far!

Hello, Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to do accurate lowlevel bombing in SF2 for 60's jets (i.e. A4, F7,F8, B57,F4 etc.)? I find most of the time eyeballing when to press the release button without any accuracy :(

Darker night & night vision
luckyluca replied to pistitom's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
By editing the enviroments .ini file in the flight mods folder you can getting pitch black sky and darker terrain. I love it now! just edit the night section and set the sky to 0.000 0.000 0.000 and the ambient light to lower values. This leads to the next question: is there a nice and quick way to edit the cockpit lighting to make the cockpit redder at night? and what about landing lights at night? :) -
Hello, Just a little question about flight dynamics in SF2:E and SF2:V I feel that on average all fighters feel very heavy, almost either too heavy or underpowered. For instance I can hardly turn without stalling when cruising at 250-300Knots. THis of course with highest realism settings. What are your thoughts about it? Luca

heavy bricks
luckyluca replied to luckyluca's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks, It's good to know. It's just that I found the jets in SFx felt heavier than their counterparts in X-plane FS2004 and LOMAC, albeit with different joystick and loadouts of course. For instance I've had troubles getting a f-105 with heavy loadout to takeoff unless with full afterburn. Perhaps it's just the way it is, they just weren't very ecofriendly in the sixties :) -
Believe it or not it's not there btw I got the fighterstick (you can never have enough buttons!)

Second hand in very good conditions, working perfectly. It comes with original saitek CD for software and drivers but no original box. Overall a great joystick both for combat and civil flight sims with lots of programming options. Will pack securely. http://img23.imageshack.us/i/p1100022d.jpg/ http://img127.imageshack.us/i/p1100023.jpg/
