  1. I thought it was that Helicopters are so ugly that the ground repels them?
  2. Maybe he just went out on a massive piss up?
  3. Olham! Everyone knows that if you think about it too hard then helicopters will actually stop working - don't risk it!
  4. I say, did someone say Fräulein? Well hello!
  5. Why Was My Thread Moved?

What I want to know is, if there's a forum called 'The Pub', and there's another WWI forum called 'The Aerodrome', then where the chuff are we supposed to be? Or are we actualy in a cloud over a field in flanders? Maybe we should get this forum renamed to 'that ditch at the side of the road between the aerodrome and the pub'
  6. I guess they hadn't invented health and safety until then.
  7. Aldis sights

I would guess that, as the aldis sight was a sort of gunsight where the 'crosshair' is focused to infinity, in the same way as a reflector gunsight in for example a WW2 Spitfire (at least I think that's how it works - might be wrong though) - which means that no matter what angle you are looking through the gunsight (within reason) the crosshair part is always pointing at where the bullets go. Where as in CFS3 the gunsights are just painted textures I think, ie there's no focus to infinity etc (it's the same in Battle of Britain 2, which is a shame - makes it harder to aim if you use TrackIR 6DOF) which means you have to be looking directly at it for it to be lined up properly - so I would imagine judging from that, that it's an engine limitation that means it isn't possible to make that sort of gunsight work. The SE5a in Phase 3 has an aldis sight though, but I think it just has a 3d model of the crosshair hovering inside the 'tube' - so you also have to look directly down it, the viper has a standard two prong ironsight.
  8. OT: If it Ain't Boeing, I Ain't Going

I can count the number of times I've used simple maths in the past year on the fingers of one hand! 7!
  9. OT: If it Ain't Boeing, I Ain't Going

I can't say I much like the idea of an Airliner with a flight stick, I prefer them to have yokes - not for any practical reason of course - I just think that big planes should have yokes and fighters should have sticks - it is the way of things! Like them pesky P-38s with their yokes - it's just not right! Or these new fangled Submarines that don't even have periscopes! With regards to the fact that the sticks aren't joined (not sure why they wouldn't be) - I'm presuming that one stick is the primary stick and one is the secondary stick, so the controls of one would always over-rule the controls of the other ie, if the primary was pulling up and the secondary was pushing down - the plane would pull up, as opposed to trying to pull up and push down at the same time! And presumably there's a button to change between the two? As for the incident, it seems from what I've read here that most of the fault is with poor training of the crew, mixed with the fact that Pilots these days just aren't as experienced at actually flying, as they spend most of the time letting a computer do it, then the issues of unjoined sticks not physically telling the co-pilot what the pilot is doing, and also it not being easy to see what they're doing due to the sticks being small and in the corner - both of which you'd hope would be overcome with simple communication between one man and the other, but these are the things that are often overlooked in a crisis I guess.
  10. It may be called the Walfisch, but I still say it looks like a fish.
  11. Don't worry old boy, we know how to deal with their lot in the north! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uvhYYOK0WA
  12. One thing I would highly recommend if you play DiD but still find you get an unrealistic amount of kills, is to use Craeghorn's Realistic Tracers and Effects mod (Link), and diasble the machinegun tracers - as that way you have to get in a lot closer to down the enemy (as you can't see where your bullets are going) and will end up having to work harder for your kills. Either that or you'll crash into them and die horribly.
  13. Got to love crashing into the only tree in a completely empty field, who was flying - Dick Dastardly?
  14. OT Skyrim fans

Got to be honest - I never bother reading outside the OFF forums, no offense - it's just the links I have take me to the OFF sub-forum rather than the general CombatACE forum, I just never seem to go backwards through the chain.
  15. At the moment I use Rise of Flight for playing two-seater campaigns, as I like the artillery spotting and recon features they have - also when on lone recon missions I find it easier to fly proper navigation in RoF due to the accuracy of the maps (also when you're flying it doesn't show where you are on the map - but if you land at an aerodrome it shows your current loaction, which is a nice feature - sort of like landing to ask for directions.) While I use Over Flanders Fields mainly for playing early war stuff such as the B.E.2 and the Bristol Scout, which will be even more superior once P4 comes out with the new early war stuff in that, which is something very much lacking as far as RoF is concerned. As for that update, I imagine I'll buy the channel map and the seaplanes, not so sure about the DH4 though, as I'd have thought the later war two-seater front was pretty much covered with the R.E.8 and the Bristol Fighter, at least as far as I'm concerned - as someone who mainly flies RFC.
  16. Who are the "...inside men"?

You shouldn't post pictures of the great flying head battle of 1943 ,Carrick - many good men were lost in that action. I had a great uncle who was last seen leading a Seafire squadron in an attack on the left nostril (I hear that's what George Lucas based the 2nd Death Star attack run on in Return of the Jedi.)
  17. You can still see it in the UK I'm afraid. Nazis, I hate these guys!
  18. Naval stuff you say? They must have seen my post in the P4 secret beta-testers thread and got nervous! I was hoping they'd move on to the realy early war stuff personally, as now that they've added pistols and the like I'd say they're missing a trick not adding some early unarmed Aircraft.
  19. Who are the "...inside men"?

Olham is giving off secret messages saying that there are Naval strike missions in P4, he must have it! Get him, lads!
  20. OT Skyrim fans

I used to buy soundtrack CDs, but then I too..... too... must resist! Bally good show! Shame someone's written all over it though, bad luck - you should ask for a new one.
  21. Well - Indiana Jones fought for the Belgians in WWI, and he wasn't Belgian! And he was real, right?...
  22. average fps

I just had a go with it, I think when you set the Benchmark settings to MinMaxAvg under FPS, then when you press the button you have assigned for 'Benchmarking Hotkey' it begins recording the FPS (although the counter goes off the screen) - then when you press the key again it finishes recording it. Then in your main Fraps directory there's a file called FRAPSLOG.txt inside that it tells you what the FPS were for the recordings, for example in mine it shows (ww2 being the name of the game I recorded the FPS of): 2012-02-08 00:20:55 - ww2 Frames: 2545 - Time: 24883ms - Avg: 102.279 - Min: 59 - Max: 121 And Bob's your uncle.
  23. average fps

Well, presumably it shows the average for the whole of the period that the Fraps FPS readout is active, as well as what the lowest and highest FPS was.
  24. average fps

First time I read this I thought you wanted something that made your game run at one FPS, which seemed a bit odd, then I read it again and it made sense. I'm presuming you want something that shows your average FPS over the whole mission. In Fraps there's an option under FPS called [] MinMaxAvg which presumably would cover what you're after - although I haven't used it myself.
