  1. English Electric Canberra S.5 - No.617 'Dambusters' Squadron, RAF Bomber Command, 1960 Thanks to Ludo for uploading his spiffing Canberra templates.
  2. Grumman F-14S Tomcat - F21, Swedish Flygvapnet, 1979 Whilst delighted with the newly introduced AJ37 attack version of the Saab Viggen, Flygvapnet officials soon expressed concerns over the range and capability of the forthcoming JA37 interceptor version and made tentative enquiries to Grumman, McDonnell Douglas and Panavia for an interceptor tailored to their rather unique requirements. Grumman (who desperately needed more orders for their F-14 to help offset the burden of the onerous fixed-price deal with the DoD) quickly proposed an export version of the Tomcat by dusting off their earlier Spey-engined F-14S previously offered to the UK. The new F-14S ('S' now standing for Sweden) was ordered in 1975 and whilst Swedish content in the airframe and avionics was very low the Swedish government had secured offset deals with Rolls-Royce to licence produce the Spey turbofan engine by Volvo Flygmotor and the F-14S was designed to use the 'Swedish' RB-71 (Skyflash) and RB-74 (Sidewinder) missiles as it's primary armament. The F-14S entered service with F21 in 1979 with initial deliveries being made in the 'splinter' scheme but this was soon replaced by the two-tone grey scheme still seen today.
  3. It's nothing to do with definition. On my laptop and monitor your Phantoms (except for the one above) look a bit like those egg-plane caricatures.
  4. Great news and great projects!. Take it easy - don't burn out.
  5. Nice work Kevin. Always thought the PTO was more deserving of Luft'46 type 'what ifs' as it really did look like going into 1946 and beyond until Col. Paul Tibbetts and Enola Gay took to the air on that fateful August day...
  6. Ooh, that's nice PH. The high demarcation line looks really good.
  7. View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-4EZ Phantom McDonnell Douglas F-4EZ Phantom for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4E_78 to create a fictional South African Air Force F-4EZ Phantom in service with No.2 Squadron in the following schemes and timeframes; 1. 1979-1981 A 'Mirage F.1CZ' style scheme with tricolour fin and 'Springbok' national markings. 2. 1982-2002 As above but with the later style of national markings. 3. 2003-2012 Final Grey scheme with toned-down national markings. It goes without saying that you must have the F-4E_78 LOD's in your install and you'll also need the Mirage 3CZ DLC for the V3B Kukri and serial number decals although there are some easy workarounds if you don't. The idea for this 'what if' came from Stratos who created the 'Mirage F.1CZ' style skin whilst I did the tank skins, decals and packaging so it's an Anglo-Spanish joint venture and we hope that you enjoy it! BACKSTORY During the mid-1970's the South African Government made tentative enquiries regarding purchasing the McDonnell Douglas Phantom for the South African Air Force (SAAF) with no success but in February 1977 the incoming Democrat President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, and the South African State President Nicolaas Diederichs agreed to the purchase of 30 F-4EZ's for delivery in 1979 and these were among the very last St. Louis-built Phantoms produced. Entering service with No.2 Squadron 'The Flying Cheetahs' of the SAAF the F-4EZ's initially operated from Hoedspruit AFB before moving to Louis Trichardt AFB in early 1993. With SAAF Impalas, Buccaneers and Mirage F.1CZ's operating in the ground-attack role the Phantoms saw limited action in the Border War but at least four Angolan MiG-21's and two Mi-17 helicopters were shot down by No.2 Squadron. The surviving F-4EZ's were finally retired in 2019 when they replaced by Eurofighter Typhoons. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4EZ folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4EZ folder into your main Decals folder. 3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the V3B4 folder into your main Weapons folder. That's it! CREDITS Thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Muchas gracias to Stratos for the superb SAAF 'Mirage F.1CZ' style skin created with a little bit of help from Ludo on SAAF colours and Sundowner's legendary F-4E templates - thanks guys! And thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 2 - 01/02/19 Version 1 - 02/09/12 Submitter Spinners Submitted 09/02/2012 Category What If Hangar

  9. McDonnell Douglas F-4EZ Phantom - No.2 Squadron, South African Air Force, 2003
  10. Handsome looking machine the Helldiver and you're doing a great job Ed. Well done.
  11. McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.5 - No.6 Squadron, RAF South East Asia Command, 1985 Third Wire's new 'Euro One' skin - note the toned-down missiles.
  12. McDonnell Douglas F-4EZ Phantom - No.2 Squadron, South African Air Force, 1980
  13. McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom - No.6 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, 1975 The Australian Government's decision to back the recommendation of Air Vice Marshal CF Read to lease 24 brand-new McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantoms received warm support from the Royal Australian Air Force and especially from the crews of the Canberra squadrons. Entering service in September 1970, the Phantom was extremely popular with RAAF aircrews and groundcrew alike and by 1972 the Australian Government had started negotiations with the US Government to purchase 18 of the remaining 23 F-4E's plus the leased ground support equipment and by early October 1972 an agreement was reached. Whilst F-111C's re-equipped No.1 and No.2 squadrons, the F-4E's remained in service with No.6 squadron, receiving a new Mirage style camo scheme in 1973, and remained in service until 2002.
