  1. Pancho - A great post and your comments are spot on mate!
  2. This is a really interesting thread for me as I'm itching to upgrade! In other threads I've seen mention made of peeps happily running the new WOI on quite basic rigs whilst other folk with quite impressive rig specs are disappointed. At the moment I'm running an Intel Celeron 2.2 with 756 RAM and a GeForce 7300GT graphics card. Hopefully, I'm getting an Intel Celeron 3.06 chip from my local computer store (they reckon they've got one coming up from another customer's upgrade) so I reckon that by adding a bit more RAM I should be OK for WOI.
  3. Nice one Doghouse! As you say, any F-4E skin will fit so here is my RAF Super Phantom II in the markings of No. 20 squadron, RAF Germany, 1979.
  4. Sweet! Well done AmokFloo. This is a great add-on!
  5. Too true mate! And my favourites for doing this are the Thud, FB-111A and the Tomcat (with 4 Mk.84's on the Phoenix pallets). I love this task so much that on missions to take out a fuel/oil tank I use cannon on those and keep my bombs for nearby runways
  6. Regarding the Tomcat in RAF Grey/Green camo... Well I've had a real good look... so show me please!
  7. Amen to that brother! I mean, where else could I fly a Gnat fighter-bomber in RAF service and in the desert?
  8. I'm in a very similar position and running a four-year old desktop with an Intel Celeron 2.2, 758 RAM and a new NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT 128MB graphics card. Looking at it another way, as an alternative to replacing my rig, what could I upgrade first?
  9. Tomcat in the green/grey 1970's RAF Phantom scheme.
  10. I started with SFG about one month ago and then bought WOE new off ebay for a fiver and WOV as a download from TW. I've now settled on a 'merged' SFG and WOE as I'm not that interested in the Vietnam era. I will get WOI as it's of real interest but I'm going to wait a bit until my four-year old PC is further upgraded or replaced!
  11. I've only been into 'Strike Fighters' for about a month, buying SFG and running a merged WOE and SFG. The add-on aircraft and skins really make this an addictive game (or sim or whatever). So far, my favourite add-on aircraft have been the FB-111A and the F-16XL with the former being untouchable at low-level and the latter being just the sweetest handling aeroplane! How about you?
  12. One little known user was the RAF.... I'll get me coat.
  13. Just dipped into the Third Wire site and the long-awaited 'Wings Over Israel' is now available to download. Great news!
  14. Bloody hell! I thought it was still weeks/months away!! I might need to tweak my PC a bit to really enjoy it though.
  15. They are so good they really deserve a section of their own like the F-4 and F-86.
  16. My pre-production YFB-111K in the early SAC scheme but with RAF markings. I've now added the pit and the avionics. This add-on is the dogs b*ll*cks!
  17. This add-on is awesome! I haven't got the cockpit yet but the handling at low-level is superb. I flew one mission without touching the AB's and clobbered the target and two 'red' runways on the way back home but, best of all, with the time compression at X2 or X4 you really do get the impression of hurtling through the landscape. Thankfully, only a couple of Fresco's were about and this baby showed them a clean pair of heels! Mine is a 'what if' with the FB-111A airframe and the engines of the F-111F (25,000lb's of thrust each). Many thanks to everyone who has helped deliver this superb add-on.
  18. Thanks guys! Here is my new RAF Switchblade S.1 (US designation FB-111K). Nurse! I need my medication. Quick!
  19. Is that what it was? I thought it was just some stratospheric effect.
  20. Is there a long-span version available? Either an Aussie C or a SAC FB would be great!
  21. Now that just ain't right! Stock F-4K on the way back down after going through 35,000m at which point it all went haywire and I lost the F6 view. Yes, the Spey-enginned Phantoms had more thrust (20,500lbs x 2) but they were fatter, heavier and draggier.
  22. Still trying to replicate the 1962 Project 'High Jump' records set by production F-4B's. This time I went for 1000km/h at 13,500m before pulling up. Result was 25,135m - still 5,000m short. I think the problem is that we can't get the same speeds on the level that the 'Top Flight' and 'High Jump' guys did. The time to 30,000m set in 1962 was actually 371 seconds and not the 230 seconds I mentioned earlier. (230 seconds was the time taken to pass the 25,000m mark set by soon to be astronaunt John Young).
  23. I discovered SFG in a £10 'pack of four' games back in January 2008... yes, last month! I've never been one for computer games but I've been a military aviation enthusiast for about 35 years with the F-4 Phantom II being one of my favourite aircraft of all time. I was looking at some software in PC World when the F-4E on the cover of SFG (and the low price) caught my eye and I couldn't resist buying it. We'd got my daughter a new laptop for Christmas to replace her four-year old PC which was sitting there doing nothing so I thought I'd try SFG on that. Apart from a delete and install of XP I spent £60 on upgrading the graphics card and adding some memory (112 to 756, still quite modest) and that, I believe, is one of the strengths of the series - your machine spec can be quite modest and it runs! Unlike LOMAC. I've now got all three but run WoE with Desert and Germany terrains and all three aircraft packs. I've started modding but just playing around with skins and decals which is great for an RAF buff like myself as I can now have the RAF flying F-4E's with Red Top missiles! It's a great series and TK can be justly proud. P.S. In the game the Red Top is a great IR missile... but don't tell everyone!
