  1. What is the patch level of your sim? This is from the readme of the Sep2013 update: FIXES - cartoonishly large explosion debris reduced in bomb explosion and flak effects for Dec2009 & later patch levels - A-6A/B Intruder drop tanks fixed on May2011 & later patch levels - SouthVietnam terrain tweaked to prevent VPAF MiGs from intruding - CBU-14As & CBU-25s fixed to allow AI pilots to use them properly If you're patched to Mar2012 or later you have addition files to install, which includes A-6 data files for all the A-6's.
  2. Here's a starting point: http://www.47thbombgroup.org/index.html
  3. Formation.ini is in the CAT files: Flight\MissionData001.CAT
  4. Bought YAP 1-9 about two months ago when I heard they were splitting up. I had to e-mail them for 10. They sent me a link to download it.
  5. Trump on F-35/F-18

Trump tweets that he is going to cancel the Air Force One contract and Boeing's stock plummeted. Then he tweets that he had sold all his Boeing stock in June. Now he tweets that he is going to cancel the Lockheed-Martin F-35 contract and ask Boeing to look at upgrading the new Advanced Super Hornet. Now, Lockheed-Martin stock plummets and Boeing's stock skyrockets. Guess what his stockbroker's were doing in that time. Buying Boeing stock back at a value below what he sold it for? Now, Boeing's stock jumps up and his Boeing stock has more value than what he bought it for a couple of days back. Millions in profit in just a few days is my guess. This is more than insider trading, this is racketeering. It's going to be a rough four years if he stays in office that long. Personally, I think too much has been spent on developing a stealth, all purpose fighter. The stealth fighter and bombers did (and do) that specific function well and I think it is a specific function and all aircraft don't need "cloaking" capability. But you need a perfect all around fighter that can dogfight like an F-15 and carry and deliver a bomb load like an A-6. I'll cut out my tongue after I say this, but McNamara had one thing right, the three US air forces (sorry, Army) need to use the same aircraft as much as possible to cut down on all these separate government designs and contracts, and focus the funding, design, and production on one fleet. All this will be mute once we get back in the nuclear arms race as stealth fighters will be eliminated by Total Thermal Nuclear War. Who makes products for rocket systems, space stations, maybe Star Wars platforms? Is it Lockheed-Martin? Look for more changes on the stock market. You heard it first right here.
  6. Wrench, you are correct. It was not US Lend Lease, it was UK. The single, slow-firing N-37 and twin 23mm cannon had excellent effective range – about 3,050ft (1,000m) – but had dissimilar ballistic trajectories. Some Sabre pilots had the unnerving experience of seeing 23mm shells passing overhead while 37mm rounds flew by underneath! Worse, at speeds above 800km/h (499mph) the aim-point (“pipper”) of the World War II-vintage ASP-1N gunsight, which was a reverse-engineered RAF Mk 2D gunsight designed for use with British 0.303-in. machine guns in Hurricanes and Spitfires, was no longer indicating where the cannon shells were going! Additionally it had to be set by hand (by twisting the throttle, known as “stadiametric ranging”) based on the pilot’s visual range estimation. F-86 Sabre vs MiG-15, Korea 1950-53, Douglas C. Dildy & Warren E. Thompson
  7. The MiG-15 had a lead computing gunsight like the F-86. The US supplied the Soviet Union with American aircraft with lead computing gunsights through the Lend Lease program in WWII. The MiG didn't have the radar ranging that the F-86 had. So, enable the lead computing sight on the MiG.
  8. John Glenn passed away today

He flew combat missions in the F4U in WWII, and F9F and F-86 in Korea (3 MiG kills). 120+ combat missions. With NASA he flew the Mercury spacecraft (making the first American orbit of the earth), the Gemini spacecraft (making the first space rendezvous with another spacecraft), the Apollo spacecraft (making the first orbit of the moon), and rode the Space Shuttle into space at the age of 77. Plus he served 24 years as an American senator in Congress.
  9. John Glenn passed away today

I forgot to mention that John Glenn also set a transcontinental speed record, California to New York, in an F-8 photo bird in 1957. Frank Borman was the CEO of Eastern. Also, I apologize on my facts. Frank Borman was in on the Gemini rendezvous and first Apollo circuit of the moon, and not John Glenn, who retired from NASA in 1964.
  10. The Battle Of Palmdale

Good thing the other side's bombers weren't coming over during those days.
  11. Did you create a Menu folder in Saved Games Mod folder and put the menu/screen files in there? Planning maps go in each of the folders under each terrain (i.e.,wwiCambrai). You will need a Terrains folder and individual folders for each terrain in that folder if you haven't extracted them from the Cat file. Not sure how you would pack these files back into the Cat file, but you shouldn't have to do that. Check your file folder setup.

  13. Sad news for me.

Extremely sorry to hear that news. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  14. Been struggling to get the Cooper20 bombs to show on the Strutter. They show up on the stock SE-5 and the data ini were almost the same (almost). So, finally took a wild shot and copied the entire bomb data from the stock SE-5 to the Strutter, and boom, they show up in what looks like the correct position.
  15. Geforce GTX 660, using driver version 372.70. No problems.
  16. Thoughts

It's a sign of the times. Younger flight simulator enthusiasts (FNG's) don't realize that all these mods are being provided by individuals putting their own time, effort, and expenses into making changes to make these simulators better, historical, and more fun to play. They don't know what it was like in the Chuck Yeager Air Combat, Secret Weapons Of The Luftwaffe, or European Air War when you were pretty much stuck with the basic sim. No frills, no graphic enhancements, no new campaigns. They think this mod community is an offshoot of the original game being provided for their pleasure. Please don't stop your efforts to make this sim a better and more enjoyable game as you have contributed so much to it. Just write those people off as "duh, you don't know jack, cherry". Czech6
  17. Just to clarify. Some models have a Nose section in the aircraft .ini and you may need to change it to read ShowFromCockpit=FALSE in that section instead of the Fuselage section to eliminate cockpit frame conflicts. Czech6
  18. I hear you. Getting back into it this year after a few years hiatus. 1.) Not sure on the weapons, but Normal on flight characteristics effects only your aircraft. It's my understanding that the enemy is always on Normal (some say the enemy has a enhanced Normal flight setting). Seems like physics doesn't effect their aircraft at all sometimes. 2.) If you want to toggle and hide the cockpit entirely, assign a key in Options, Controls. If you have duplicate canopy framing from the cockpit and the aircraft model and want to eliminate the model framing, go to the aircraft data .ini and in the Fuselage section set ShowFromCockpit=FALSE. 3.) Don't know, outside my pay grade. 4.) Pretty much. He is trying to push the mobile apps and not doing anything to upgrade or update existing PC software. Czech6

  20. rckhp's picture (awesome by the way) probably shows the aircraft you're referring to. I doubt that's white in the black & white photo. That's a bare aluminum Corsair. Less weight and drag would make it faster. My old '58 C-182 was polished aluminum and that saved 15 pounds. That would probably be well over 60 pounds on a Corsair.
  21. This from the 7-Zip FAQ page: How can I recover corrupted 7z archive? There are some possible cases when archive is corrupted: You can open archive and you can see the list of files, but when you press Extract or Test command, there are some errors: Data Error or CRC Error. When you open archive, you get message "Can not open file 'a.7z' as archive" It's possible to recover some data. Read about recovering procedure: Recover corrupted 7z archive Instead of going through all this since these aren't life or death files that you need to save, I would make sure I have the latest version of 7-Zip (16.xx as there appears to be some security issues with earlier versions), re-download the files you want to open and give it another try. In my opinion, either your 7-Zip has some corrupt program files, or the downloads have corrupt files. If you want let us know what particular download is doing this and we can try extracting on our end and see if's a bug in the download file.
  22. Also, check the version of 7-Zip. I just realized I was using a Beta version from 8/15 and updated mine. And, check if you have the correct 32-bit or 64-bit version for your computer.
  23. Are you using the "open archive" command or the "extract to" command?
  24. Formation.ini Question

It's been a while since I messed with formations. Here's an old response from TK from back in my haydays: TK Ace Joined: 02 Feb 2003 Posts: 2823 Location: Austin, Texas Posted: Fri Dec 02, 2005 8:20 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Charles, Unfortunately, its not easy to change that, you can probably control it somewhat by editing the Formation.ini, try chaning the BaseLevel= number. I think this sets the default "grouping" size. I think the default is 2 (Flight level, 4-ship), try 1 (Squadron, 16-ship) and see if that makes any difference... Its possible that campaign engine has other constraints, so it might not have any direct effect, tho... We'll try to make the basic flight size more customizable in the future, just not sure where it would go... in Nations.ini, in AircraftData.ini, or in CampaignData.ini.... (do we want it nation specific, aircraft specific, or campaign specific? ) I think MissionSummary.ini controls the text you see on hangar screen. There are 2 variations of the same text for some mission types. TK ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I interpret this to mean BaseLevel means which level of formation is the "default", i.e. 1 is Squardron, 2 is Flight, 3 is Element. That being said, my "default" formation in my FE2 and merged SF2 is 2, and I use the same default formation.ini for all of these. The results: I sometimes get 2 aircraft, sometimes 4, and sometimes 8. This is in Single Mission testing, so maybe this is for Campaigns only. TK's answer wasn't definitive and I haven't seen anything new on this, so maybe it never was resolved as to what it does. Czech6
  25. If you download one of the major campaign packs (ex: SF2V AG-XP) a lot of the aircraft have the cockpit files already in the aircraft folder. You may not want to use that campaign but you can copy and paste the files from the campaign aircraft folders to whatever aircraft you want to use the cockpit.ini.
