F-105 Thud RELEASED
Hedu VF-143 replied to Armourdave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Could someone do a review of this addon, what the warts are and all? I am trying to be picky about add ons, and it is better to get a review that to d/l and then uninstall if I have to. I love the Thud, but should I wait for the fixes to complete it? -
Warning....this will make some of you very angry....

Since she has this right to "protest", then I am certainly glad that the people who she has riled have the right to "root" against her. The Merchant Marine school that she was playing against passed out over 500 flags and the midshipmen all chanted "U.S.A.!" and "Leave the country", which I believe falls under the same "right" that she seems to enjoy. Again, this sociology major at a small liberal arts school is naive to the causes she profess's to defend. Another "Lets blame America first" wannabe. Oh, and by the way, she's doing this on other peoples time and dime. Would you wanna be on a team where you are trying to win but her outside interuptments interfered with your team work? Not by a long shot. In wrestling, rugby and other team sports that I have participated, one of the rules is to "leave the home stuff at home". -

I guess my beef with her is that she is protesting the very country that allows her the free speech to protest. To her the country is "so terrible", yet she is allowed to "protest" her homeland. Does she see the irony in it? I also believe that she is allowed to protest due to her beliefs, but I also say she can do it on her own time. She wants to stand on the corner with a sign, whatever, knock yourself out. But at a school sporting event? Nope. I also don't see her forfeiting any of her rights voluntarely, either. She is a stupid kid who is selfish. 5 will get you 10 that she knows nothing of the causes that she is "protesting" for. I don't believe in "my country, right or wrong", because that can make you a hypocrite. But I don't believe in "blanket blame" of America, either. She needs to have it pointed out to her that she is part of what she is "protesting". Her search for blame should also reside in herself. Hope she remembers that next time she buys a pair of basketball shoes that are made in a foriegn country at slave wages. She is gonna hate herself when she sees the hypocrisy of her own stance. -
Hey FE, get well so you can get back in the cockpit! <S>

ok heres an aircraft question...
Hedu VF-143 replied to Dagger's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I am not sure I understand TK's intention then, because even the support aircraft are Vietnam era. And the Crusader was termed more of a pure dogfighter than the F-4, but not included? If your sim is about dogfighting, and includes the planes that it does for that reason, does it not seem logical that the Crusader would have been included? I don't know. All of things in this sim give me pause. It's not supposed to be a hardcore sim, yet almost all the mods are making it that. Not that I don't approve, hardcore is my forte. I just don't understand making a sim with such crisp and complete aircraft models and not making it hardcore in the first place. -

O thought it was the wing raising, but by the tone of that, I can tell you are going to say I am wrong. Story on that wing told to me by Jay Huff, A-4 pilot and Adm. Huff's son, was that once a Crusader was wheeling around when the wing went into that launch attitude. When they found the pilot, his back was broken from the G-forces. He also told me about the Crusader pilot that shot himself down. He shot his guns in a slightly up attitude, punched it, and flew into the slugs, right into the intakes. I don't think they are sea stories, he is a pretty down to earth guy. BTW, my dad was at Bien Hao, Tan Son Nhut, Phu Cat, Cam Ranh Bay, Chu Lai and more. When he was there, the F-105s were in Thailand only. -

Dagger, my dad was in Vietnam, and the planes he talks about were the F-101, the 105, the c-123 and the Huey. 1965-68. He also flew in the F-104 while stateside. If my wish list was made: F-105 F-101 B-52 and maybe the Huey. -
Strike Fighters Bombing Tutorial removed from the site
Hedu VF-143 replied to MadJeff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
With respect, I don't think too many people will miss out on it, as MJ has posted a link, and so has Andy Bush, who is listed as a co-writer of the tutorial. You can find his tips and a link to the tutorial in the "a question" thread. I am saying this with complete respect and all, but maybe they can rethink posting it here for all now that they have posted links to the tutorial. There could still be the caveat that the tutorial resides at SIMHQ also with links to that site so that the traffic can still continue to theyre site if they wish. I too apologize if anything I had done caused that decision. I would hate to think that anything that went on in my situation would effect the relationship of two boards that can benefit from each other. -
A questions
Hedu VF-143 replied to thorchan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, to tell you the truth, that really IS normal bombing. You must remember these planes had no conventional bombsights like a High alt level bomber might. Remember, what ever gets your plane home and you into your pajamas is a pretty good technique. Survival is the number one goal. Work on youe accuracy and no one will bad mouth you when you are putting bombs on the target. -
TK, Please release the Flight Model Editor
Hedu VF-143 replied to pcpilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
USAFMTL, I ahve not seen the data files yet as I am visiting the folks this weekend, and have never looked into it before. Is a special tool needed to look through them, or a hex editor? I think that if there was anything that I would like to do to mod this sim, it would be flight models. I know that you open yourself to huge amounts of criticism, but I think you could say that is one thing that I particularly don't have trouble shrugging off. I have quite a bit of FM info, I collect flight manuals and am a Airplane book hound. If someone could set me in a right direction, I wouldn't mind tackling it. -
TK, Please release the Flight Model Editor
Hedu VF-143 replied to pcpilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I would hope this might be a route that TK considers. The guy making the F-105 has everything EXCEPT the flight model. When he posted this on another board, a person told him to just use the f-104 model. I thought what a complete waist of time. If I want to play ATF, I'll reinstall it, But to just use another planes flight model, especially one that isn't even close, is just ridicoulous. Why bother with flight models at all then? No, the FMs must be released to the public. -
A questions
Hedu VF-143 replied to thorchan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Your dive bomb technique CAN actually work. You end up going to fast, so I am guessing you might be at full speed, or at least too high a speed. Anyhoo, try this. Before you go into your dive, pull throttle way back, pop your airbrakes, and if you can get slow enough, drop flaps. This will reduce airspeed and you may be able to have more hang time on the drop, and will cut back speed so you can pull out. Other ways are to go into a shallow dive instead from a lower altitude. Practice will help any way that you do it. Good Luck. -
Should I buy the HOTAS Cougar??
Hedu VF-143 replied to Bacardi's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
Bacardi, there is a guy at the Warbirds forum named "Revvin". He helps me with my stick if there is something I want to do that I don't know how. He also creates config files for the Cougar. Go to www.agw.warbirdsiii.com and post that you are looking for him to tell you about the Cougar, and tell him I sent you looking for him. He is good guy. Also, you may want to post on your thread that you live in Canada and are trying to buy a Cougar. My friends in Edmonton are kicking around the same thing, and I think are coming up with ways to keep the price down. Ask for drover, or =Rifle= or -Nash-. Good luck, you will love it. I picked up the box when I got it and thought a weight set was in it. -
Should I buy the HOTAS Cougar??
Hedu VF-143 replied to Bacardi's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
I can't recommend the Cougar enough. It is an incredible system, something you will keep forever. Great support, complete software, preset configurations. You can d/l new configs to your stick and your ready to go. Stick and throttle are VERY heavy, very tought feeling. The stick tends to be real stiff in the begining, but loosens up with use, but NEVER gets sloppy. 28 buttons, 2 sliders, 4 hats, and a microswitch. The microswitch is a thumb operated switch that can act as a mouse/joystick all its own. TM eilte pedals work with the HOTAS also. BY all means, get this system. You WILL NOT be sorry. -

Hedu VF-143 replied to fng2k's topic in CombatACE General Forums
I have always loved Gunship, and kept in on my HD for as long as I can remember. I will have to try that one. Wish I could find some MP guys tho. And suggestions? I don't see much at HL. -

Hedu VF-143 replied to Dagger's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It seems CFS3 was a giant step backwards, and thats too bad. But I will say, if you get the correct flight models and damage models for CFS2, It's actually a pretty good sim, far better than CFS3. CFS2 is heavily suppported, as you can find at www.flightsim.com. I pull it our everyonce in a while and throw it on the HD for a while.
