  1. good tip ordway, thanks for share it... mako69... is true that the F-102 is a bomber interceptor, but... "I was in the 326 FIS at RG AFB (Kansas City MO) when the Cuban Missile Crisis started... Later on we were down at Homestead AFB with 20 birds, all set to be day fighters (!) and top cover (!) for the F-100s and F-105s that were to transform Cuba into a parking lot. Never saw a MiG but we got one hell of a lot of flying--1800 hours in one month, flying CAP for the recce birds and scrambling on anything that flew." http://www.456fis.org/FLYING_THE_F-102A.htm in those times, the USAF had a doctrine that the FIS (fighter interception squadrons) isn't just for take down bomber, as in korea, they put FIS in air superiority roles, leaving most of the time the TFS (tactical fighter squadrons) for (nuclear) bombing... so, fighting with interceptors (and missiles) in that period would be very plausible that was exactly what happened in vietnam and as in vietnam, sometimes avoiding or disengaging a fight isn't a option...
  2. Komar Missile Boat

how to make it capable of launch stix?
  3. there is a similar topic in the SF2 forum... I got there the solution to the same issue
  4. the ordnance's choice depends very much of the type of mission that your are flying... the napalm is a weapon with 2 or 3 virtues: very small blast radius, incendiary effect and... burn people badly with a hollywood-type fireball so napalm is good for: -burn down combustible materials, like fuel storages, warehouse, trucks, wood or palm hut in rural villages, ect. -close support weapon (when the own troops is nearby de targets, is good to have a little blast effects weapons) -scare away people! the cluster munitions are area weapons, to cover a greater area than the blast effects of a weapons like general purpose bombs o fragmentations bombs, so cluster munitions is more suitable where there's no problem with collateral damage like a urban area, nearby a friendly structure or troops, ect. is for these reasons that a typical loadout for a CAS mission is: guns, rockets, napalm and sometime retarded bombs, to have a focused fire, limited blast or bombs with little circular error of the intended point of impact. a BAI, interdiction or armed recon mission, is good to have cluster munitions. always remember: -napalm is for BURN things (wood, fuel, buildings, material, people...) -cluster bombs is for DESTROY things (vehicles, small objets, military hardware, lives, etc...) when you go to a CAS mission, carry napalm when you go to a BAI/interdiction/armed recon mission, carry cluster munition example, to kill people or trucks/jeeps with napalm, you must hit the canister over his heads to break it and spread the fire upon they... to destroy things with cluster munition, spray the area with submunitions, requiring less accuracy and hit all things beneath the black rain
  5. you dont need to modify any exe or dll files... you need to modify the campaign file to remove all or some squadrons and replace it with MiG-21 squadrons how to do that? ummm some lost wisdoms over here, but I'll try to search for some info that I could have...
  6. well, for the text only, just write the new callsign in the mission file: [AircraftMission001] AircraftType=F-100d Name=Anvil <--here FormationType=USFighter but the audio radio will call you "cowboy" for have the audio call, I think that you must add the audio file for the call in the speech folder and modify the speechtest.str
  7. Libyan Mig shot down over Benghazi

Rebel's tally so far: 1 Su-24 Fencer 1 MiG-21 Fishbed 1 MIG-23 Flogger Khaddafi's LAF aditional losses: 1 Su-22 Fitter which the crew bailed-out 2 Mirage F-1 which the crew defected to Malta Khaddafi's tally so far: 1 Lynx naval helo from Dutch navy (impounded) Rebel's "Losses" so far: 1 Mi-24 Hind destroyed in the ground some civilian planes destroyed in the ground "Luckily" the flogger driver bailed-out from the plane: but fell in benghazi and no so far from the huge fireball of his mount
  8. so sad for those scarce beautiful aircraft but is a minor loss comparing the pain and suffering of the japanese people and the poor people whom loss theirs lives...
  9. Where to start for combat fighter training?

ummm that is a interesting topics because there is really few ways to introduce a new person to air-to-air fighter combat training in a compact, comprehensively manner... generally, if somebody can't get a "real" flying instructor, like in the real world, most of the process is more or less a self-learning one... and one of the cornerstone of the self-learning is a strong interest, motivation and self-commitment in a long term... the mayority of the flight simmers found that interest a so on in the lieu of hobby, passion from aviation or military aircraft, thats as any hobby, demands a lot of time to dominate it. of course, could have a more straight, focused way to learn the matter, but as I said, there is few resources available in a comprehensively way. i found, that the training course of Falcon4 the best direct course to learn to fight in a air combat simulation, but the problems is that you learn the basics to fly and fight in the F-16 with his avionics (HUD, radar, missiles, INS, etc) a little more diferent in a 50s or 60s jet, luckily, the Strike Fighter series is more flexible and no so hard to transition it as would be in the real world or a hardcore mid-50s jet flight sim. so, maybe the "long list" of steps to learn all-the-way from "0" to mastery the dominance the virtual skys by force is: ->take the training course of Microsoft Flight Simmulator series as basic training and knowledge (the ground school and flight lessons up to private pilot and IFR course) ->jump to falcon4 and take the training course built in the game ->read some books and e-books like "Fighter Combat Tactics and Maneuvering" of Robert Shaw and "IN PURSUIT A Pilot’s Guide to Online Air Combat" by Johan Kylander (there are more good books related) ->take on the Strike fighter series and learn to use it the game, like make personal missions and basic modding. ->read good resources on internet regard to learn tactics of Air-to-Air combat in the Strike Fighter series like the ones in simHQ.com am combatsim.com ->read and ask in community knowledge forums like this and the thirdwire forum ->make our own training missions in strike fighter of the aircraft of your choice, for example the MirageIIICJ of the IDF/AF for example, to learn to fly in the F-101A Voodoo in strike Fighter, I made this set of missions: Flight1: TakeOff-basic handling(climbs-turn-dive)-landing Flight2: Basics aerobatic (rolls, barrel roll, loop, immelmann, split-S) Flight3: performance test (low alt maxspeed, hi alt maxspeed, ceiling, climb rate, fuel flow) Flight4: navigation Flight5: nightflight Flight6: stall/spin recovery (stall, deep stall, spin, inverted spin) Flight7: avanced handling (chandelle, yo-yos, highspeed maxturning, lowspeed maxturning, corner speed turning) Flight8: Formation flight (in wingman position) to learn to fight in the F-100 Super Sabre, I made this set of missions: Flight1: air-to-air gunnery (shoot a maneuvering target) Flight2: AIM-9 sidewinder weapon employment Flight3: BFM 1-vs-1 (dogfight) Flight4: ACM 2-vs-2 (melee) in the air-to-ground missions: Flight1: gun strafing Flight2: rockets attacks Flight3: dumb bombs dive bombing Flight4: dumb bombs level bombing in that point, just remain to learn about to managing your AI wingman and about of the missions (CAP, CAS, Strike) objetives and goals. the "short" way, may be, if somebody know to fly things already: ->read the game's manual -> get in the "instant Action" in Strike fighter series in easy mode and start to shooting up things and get shot. ->when you realized more or less how the things works, the do's and don'ts, start to play single missions. ->when the single missions runs out, play a built-in campaing. ->next, enter in the knowledge base in the combatAce.com (no far from here) and start reading an trying in "basic modding", "intermediate modding" ->if you are still interesting, Start to play un hard mode and play with online people. I hope that you stuck in combat flight simmulations! the more, the merrier
  10. Missle issue

in the MFD SMS page of the given weapon shows if they are damaged or ready.... i dont know why this happens to you... i never experienced such thing post you steps to bring up the weapons (MRM override button, dogfight override button, ciling weapons, etc)
  11. RWR in your phone

the sound folder of Falcon4 are pleny of RWR tones and bitchin' betty calls and warnings
  12. Waddington 2001

excelent! very enjoyable the watching of the pics... old good school of grainy not PS'ed shots!
  13. The AIM-9B is a anti-bomber weapon that mean 3 things: 1st: the target isn't maneuvering when you fire the missile 2nd: you aren't maneuvering when you fire the missile 3rd: both have similar alttitude and mostly a high alttitude. ok that's true that since as early as 1958 the AIM-9B has been used as air-air weapon against fighters by fighters (taiwanese F-86mod shooting down migs with AIM-9B) but unless you haven't any gun aboard (like F-4B/C/D phantoms) the primary air-to-air weapon of a fighter is its internal guns prior the J or P version of sidewinders came out. so, using AIM-9B in a internal gun equipped fighters like the F-104G, the AIM-9B is a secundary weapon which is used when the target is out of range of your guns (example, when the target is trying to escape or disengaging a dogfight). thinks always that your primary weapon is your guns, and if there is a situatuon that meets the launching criteria (the target is too away for your guns, you and the target isn't maneuvering, and both have similiar altitude) try to use the sidewinders, but that isn't guarantee to hit the target, because of low reliabity of the missile of this era, to ensuring a hit with a AIM-9B you may need to shoot at least 2 missile and 4 shots isn't uncommon practice: shoot one, mantain distance and tracking, if the first shot miss, shoot again, an so on until your hit the target or run out of missiles!
  14. that's great! at least a KC-135 with vintage look! just a metal finish skin and we're done!
  15. Feliz Año nuevo!

    Feliz año!
  16. you tried a low altitude nap-to-the-earth attack? I think that the germany map in WOE is small enough for exist a certain degree of overlapping radar coverage (if fubar512's statement isn't exact) just simply dodging it will not work the 2nd way is degrading the coverage by mean of hardkill (throwing things at) the 3rd way is degrading the coverage by mean of some magic (Electronic jamming & chaffing) the 4th way is using stealth aircraft editing and cheating the network is unfair (well, the life is unfair too...so) PS: Pest is Best!
  17. that's true that's true too.. well, in my recent experience about the early detections, in a empty theatre, a bogie near an airfield has been engaged by AAA. but no red crown call was made. but nearby a sam (example a add-on nike site) red crown warned me about the bogie i think that if you specific the network that the radar belongs, example: datalink:TRUE network:AAA the info is passed only to that network but if no specified, the info is shared to red crown and warns you. just some days ago, I received a red crown warning of bogies in my area by a barlock of 50 miles when really the bogie was almost 100miles away of my position, and when I asked to radio to TCC he gave me the bearing and the same distance well, a thing to test soon again, i think
  18. hello FrankD... good point about the network... the barlock is datalinked by default DetectSystem] TargetType=AIR RadarSearchTime=10.0 RadarSearchRange=250000.0 RadarSearchStrength=80 RadarPosition=0.0,0.0,2.30 RadarMinimumRange=2500.0 RadarMinimumAlt=1000.0 DataLink=TRUE OpticalSight=FALSE MaxVisibleDistance=8000.0 RadarCrossSection=100 so, any closer that 250000 meters that a barlock (one big thing like a B-36 or zeppelins ) must be detected and pass the info to red crown
  19. Early warning radar provide long range detection for red crown to warn you and direct you the proximity of bogies. so the same to sam direction radars seem that air search radar in airfields has no capability to do so. if you fly in a large empty space near a bogie, if there aren't any mean of detection, red crown has no way to warn you and largely the bogie pass unnoticed, the moment that you lock on it by you own onboard radar, red crown is noticed and warn you of the hostiles. if you looked for the barlock data INI, you can see that it has a range of detection of 250(km) so, in very small theatres full of sams and others radars, may have a overlapping coverage that seem that avoid a specific radar haven't a much effect concealing your flight, but degrading the radar coverage may create a free zones of detection and direction of enemy interceptors. one of the problem with the early warning and direction of red crown is that the longest call that it make is just 50miles no matters if the target is detected by a radar further away (example, a target may be at 120miles but red crown says that is 50miles)

    so gorgeous!!
  21. img00002.JPG

    beautiful!
  22. F-101A/C Voodoo V1.1

Thank for the add-on! great AOA behavior... a tricky plane to flight!
  23. at last.... my "century series" completed!!! thanks thanks a lot for the works of the people like veltro!!!
  24. any news?? i'll like it to have a least in the alpha stage if the works doen't go on.. looks such impressive and would be a hard catch to M2 interceptors...
