Therefore, would it be possible to start 'A' flight with No.2 rather than No.1? The shade of PC10 looks good, but IMHO it tends to make them look like brand new machines, which is okay if that's how you want 'em. But if the PC10 was just a tad lighter, I think your usual excellent weathering would stand out that bit more. The only other slight innaccuracy I can point out is the size of the serial numbers: They were really quite large on most F2b's, especially on 11 Sqn's. As shown on this profile of McKeever's A-7288: Well I wanted to just use the game generated letters and numbers and serial numbers, which happen to start at 1 and A and repeat every 16 count up to 99. I would have to create a decal folder for each flight with 99 Letters and or numbers and 99 serial numbers. A whole lot of typing . The serial #'s that I used are the stock "Camelserial" numbers from the objects folder. I could try to scale them to make them a bit bigger but they wont be as fat looking. Unless ofcourse I make 99 new serial decals . Now I'll probably end up making all new decals If I dont it will bug me now ] Thanks a lot bucky! .........Just playing . You're right though they should be accurate. And as for as the PC10 color goes I can still lighten them up a bit. But the way the template is set up It's impossible to really get the weathering the way I would like to. I'll do some more work on it this weekend. I have a funeral tomorrow morning so I dont know when exactly. Soon. BTW, I dont have a book on the F2b's. Could you (Southside bucky), or anyone tell me the range of serial numbers used on F2b's of No11 Squad so I could do the accurate decals.

Almost done. There is a patch of grey on the rear fuselage where the horizontal stabilizers attach to the fuselage. For the life of me I cant figure out were that is on the template . It might have to stay. If the PC12 is still too dark, please let me know (bucky ). There was a mixed bag of numbers and letters used on these F2b's. So maybe I'll make one flight (A) with numbers instead of the letters.
-
Thanks bucky. I'll try it out and then I'll move the number or letter decal to the center of the top wing. Over the weekend most likely. Then I'll post everything.
-
This is the only version I have. Is there two versions to download? I wanted to put the "Letter" in the center of the upper wing. But the gun is in the way. Is the other version at Skunkworks? Or did somebody here remove the Lewis gun and post the fix? I'ld rather have that version. And I'll lighten up that paintjob too. Have a Wake to go to tomorrow and a funeral on saturday for my grandfather. God rest his sole. He was a great man. Veteran of WWII and Firefighter.

The roundels are the stock ones. I still have to make new ones with the white borders and reposition them. Part of the WIP. Is the PC12 color too dark?

Just wondering if anyone knows if you can take an object from a terrain folder ie; Hangers, tents, towers, etc etc, and use them as ground objects in mission building. Could I get a hanger or watertower to show up in my groundobjects selection? I know all objects need a "configuration settings.ini" and a "Data.ini." along with TextureSets and all. Most of these files are in the terrain folders for these objects, no? Does anyone know what I'm getting at? It's confusing. I've been trying it out. Not quite sure how to make a Data.ini for say "Hanger_1" in the Cambrai terrain folder. For all I know it's not possible. If someone knows how or wants to try one out please let me know.

Making ground objects from terrain folders
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Hi Gepard. The Dr.1 I'm refering to is not the stock Dr.1 from the Aircraft folder. As an example for creating more ground objects I just happened to pic the Dr1 static model from the Flanders terrain "Types" file. I guess I should have picked a tent or hanger to make it more clear. I'm aware of making static aircraft from the stock aircraft. You were right about the tutorial thread about this process. I does work. What I would like to do is take ground objects (Target_TYPES) from a terrain folder and put them in my /objects/Groundobjects/ folder to use them in mission building using KMD or Le Missioneur. I would be able to populate airfields and create small troop camps very easily using this method. I almost have it done. Justnot sure what info is missing from my above post to get these objects to appear. Again I'm NOT using the stock TW Fokker Dr.1. I want to use any ground object from the Terrain folders. I think it might be the LOD files. I dont know how they work or where to put them. I know I can manually type in the coordinates of these ground objects, in the "Types" .ini files to add more to the terrain, but that is very time consuming. My way if it will work will have the new ground objects right in the dropdown menu in the mission building programs. And as easy as that, just place them on a map where you want them. I'm trying. If you have any input on my Config.ini setup and DATA.ini setup and what I'm missing, I would love to hear it. If anyone here would know It might be you. Thanks Gepard -
Making ground objects from terrain folders
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I'm kind of at a lose here. Not sure what needs to be done , or undone, to get the object (Dr1 ground object) to appear ingame. Anyone else have any ideas? Anyone have experience with objects and how to create Config files and Data files? This will be an awsome addition to the game if I or we can get it working. A lot of ground objects to populate the airfields and other target areas Getting close. ------ I think Thanks Tailspin -
Making ground objects from terrain folders
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Well First I tried the stationary Dr1 in the Flanders terrain. I created a Dr1 folder in the /objects/groundobjects/Dr1/. Then in the Dr1 folder I created a Texture folder with the skin template and TextureSet inside, /objects/groundobjects/Dr1/Texture, which is correct. Then outside of the Texture folder I made a "Dr1configsettings.ini" file and a "Dr1 Data.ini". Now as far as the Data.ini goes, I used the info from "Flander_TYPES.ini" in the Flanders terrain folder. Changed the top line in brackets from [TargetType061] to [GroundobjectData] just like other ground objects. Also at the top of the new Dr1 Data.ini page above the [GroundobjectData] I typed in: [MissionData] NationName=GERMANY ServiceStartDater=9/1917 ServiceEndDate=11/1918 GroundObjectRole=STATIC Availability=COMMON Exported=TRUE ExportStartYear=01/1918 ExportAvailability=COMMON Ok so here is what I did. This will be long: 1. Dr1 ground object folder in /objects/groundobjects/Dr1 2. Then inside the Dr1 folder has the Dr1 skin template from the Flanders terrain and a TextureSet that looks like this: [TextureSet] Nation=Germany Specular=1.300000 Glossiness=1.100000 Reflection=0.100000 3. Outside the "Texture" folder I have a "Dr1ConfigSettings.ini" like this: [GroundObjectData] ObjectFullName=Dr1 ObjectDataFile=Dr1_data.ini [LOD001] Filename=Dr1_Static.LOD Distance=250 [shadow] CastShadow=TRUE ShadowCastDist=500 MaxVisibleDistance=500 [TextureSet001] Directory=Dr1 Name=Dr1 Nation=Germany Specular=1.400000 Glossiness=1.400000 Reflection=0.000000 Then also I created a "Dr1Data.ini" like this: [MissionData] NationName=GERMANY ServiceStartDater=9/1917 ServiceEndDate=11/1918 GroundObjectRole=STATIC Availability=COMMON Exported=TRUE ExportStartYear=01/1918 ExportAvailability=COMMON [GroundObjectData] Name=Dr1 FullName=parked Fokker Dr.I ModelName=Dr1_Static.lod TargetType=MISC ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=250 UseGroundObject=TRUE DamagePoint=0.001 ArmorValue=0.0 ArmorType=0 RepairRate=50.0 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=16100.0 DestroyedEffect=VehicleFireEffect DestroyedModel=Dr1_Dest.LOD SecondaryEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryChance=80 [shadow] CastShadow=TRUE ShadowCastDist=500 MaxVisibleDistance=500 [TextureSet001] Directory=Dr1 Name=Dr1 Nation=Germany Specular=1.400000 Glossiness=1.400000 Reflection=1.000000 4. There are two LOD files, one for "static" and one for "Destoyed" and a Dr1Destroyed template These files I put outside of the "Texture" folder. I have no idea if thats right or not. I'm just trying to copy other ground object's setup. 5. Doesnt work I get the object name "Dr1" to appear in the ground object menu ( using Le Missioneur and KMD mission builders) and the texture (German) appears as well. Friendly or Enemy preference appears too. I can place the Dr1 object on any map. But when I run the created mission, There are no Dr1 ground objects to be found. 6. Now I'm confused. Whats missing? -
Me too. Thanks bucky. Good to see wheels turning here again Where's that Zepplin????? I need it!
-
I for one will be using this BoB terrain. I like using the Gotha. And what better place to use it. Makes for good Home Defense missions.I dont know who has or is working on this terrain. I think Sinbad said he was. But my version has no objects and the airfields are just landing strips. Thats why I asked in my other post about creating ground objecsts from the terrain folders. If someone has created a good, full BoB terrain I definitely will download it and use it. BTW Sinbad, Where Is That Zepp????? Looks awsome over England. The Staaken too. Nice to here from you guys again

Making ground objects from terrain folders
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Thanks for the response Tailspin. I read some old threads of yours on this topic. I understand the way you placed ground objects using coordinates and and target types and such. But I was thinking of adding these terrain objects as ground objects in the GrounObjects folder. That way the could be used in Mission builders such as KMD or Le Missioneur. When using a Mission builder program you can select ground objects (Tanks, Balloons, Artillary, etc etc) and place them where you please. As in my original question, could I add a Hanger or a tower or even fuel drums to my ground objects list, so they too can be placed where I like? Without having to go through the TargetTypes file and finding the right coordinates. Your way works just fine. Just takes a while to get the positioning right. And it's a whole lot of typing. If my way is possible, It would make for some great and easy mission building. I remember in a thread a while back there is a way to make aircraft as static ground objects. So why not everything else? Just need to know what info is needed to create the proper Data.ini files for all the objects in the terrain folders. It should work. -
Battle of Britain terrain??????? I didnt know there was one. Very cool. Thanks bucky BTW, where is it? Is it the one in the SFP1 download section by Geopard?
-
It all looks so good. Lots of detail on those buildings and streets. Too bad the terrain is not very high in resolution.

I got my new HP tower yesterday. Now the very time consuming proccess of transfering all the old files on my old PC to my new one. My old Dell got all screwed up some how and it only runs in Safe Mode. Good thing too. At least I can copy all the imortant stuff and transfer them. I'm using my I-Pod as a storage device. Sounds funny but it works. It's a big flash drive. The new HP has Windows7 64bit . The only problem I had doing a fresh install of FE was the DirectX. I just had to update the DX to the latest version from Microsoft. So far no other problems to report. So needless to say I am very happy about that. HP Pavilion P6210F Black Desktop PC (Windows 7 Home Premium) AMD Athlon II 620 Quad-Core Processor (2.6 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache) 6GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM memory (3x2048MB for ultimate performance)(expandable to 16GB) 640GB (7200RPM) Serial ATA hard drive; SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology NVIDIA GeForce 9100 Graphics with 256MB integrated shared graphics memory. Up to 2.9 GB Total Available Graphics Memory as allocated by Windows 7. Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit I would have liked a better graphics card, but I really can't complain. So far it runs everything on perfect, or unlimited settings. Woo hoo! But I still have to add all my files to the new install from the old one. I'm sure it will slow down a bit after that. Especially with the high polly models. But it's much better than my old PC thats for sure. Now if I only knew how to use Windows7 lol.

I must say that I am very happy with my new set up Took quite some time reinstalling everything But it all works. Even my old Photoshop 7.0. I had to reinstall the 7.0 upgrade CD though. but it works. Windows7 is very fast and not as hard as I thought to figure out. As far as FE goes, I keep everything on high not unlimited and hardly no stutter or drop in fraps. The Nvidia9100 seems to do the job. Felt like I was in detox without my PC and FE I'm back in business. Thanks for all your suggestions

I'll have to feel guilty about bombing cities. There's civilians down there!!! Women and children!!! Oh the humanity! Awsome! BTW those buildings are much better
-
Thats good to know. I should get my new rig monday. Did you do a reinstall or copy and paste? My FE is on a add-on hard drive. So I might try to install the hard drive as a second hard drive on my new PC. Good for backing things up when you're constantly modding and messing things up

I give TK and everyone at TW full credits. After seeing how things work within FE (without the engine because that stuff is locked) I cant imagine tending to multiple simms at once like TW does. I completely understand their situation and the work they're involved in. Lol! I just want FE to be top priority! Since FE is my game of choice I would just like it to keep putting out great things. I just want to know that it will still produce. Thats all. We as skinners and modders can only do so much wit out TK's help. It's still a condender against OFF and ROF. You are right about the Vista version for FE. People do need to see a game with an easy install thats for sure. I'm one of those people . But two years for any patches or expansions. Thats a long time for all of use who are currently using FE and do so much on our own to make it better. Like I said above, when I started FE in'08 I had the basic install. Then there was the ExPack 1 (awsome) and then the Nov'08 update. The ball was rolling. It was exciting and I coudnt wait to see what was next. What planes? What environment or terrain mods? Or even what new ground objects? But there has been nothing. It does get kinfd of boring when you use the same stuff for a long time. And there doesnt seem to be any thing new for almost a year, man thats realy boring. I shouldnt say boring. FE is far from boring. There is no anticipation. I'm sure the new expansion packs or updates will be quite amazing. No doubt there. Just a long time to wait. Gradual updates would be the way to go. But I know thats not how things work for TW. Even give us an update on what the next ExPack will contain. What new planes etc etc. TK and TW created a great WWI sim. Thats why I use it. The fact I spend time creating skins for all those planes is evidence enough. That should show the credit I give to TK.
-
I know FE isnt a top priority for ThirdWire. But there seems to be a big demand for WWI sims these days. There is a lot of traffic over at OFF and ROF forums to prove this. FE was a big contender and still could be. Unlike the other sims, FE is endless. One can make FE the way they want it with its endless modabilty. Thats one reason I like it so much. The aircraft models are incredible with all their detail. If TK wasnt into FE anymore then why bother with the Vista and Windows 7 fixes? I just think other more popular TW sims come first (which is how you do business). We all know that. So I understand 100% why ExpPacks and Updates take so long for FE. I would just hate to see FE wither away because of the competition. Almost 2 years for another ExPack or any kind of update could kill FE. There are many issues with FE that need to be tended to. Nothing really major, but it's the little things that eventually turn people away. Especially when you have other sims for them to try out. I did mention this before, but if you throw a dog a bone every now and then, he'll be your best friend. A new aircraft, a new map, sounds, new objects, or even a better mission builder. Anything, something. I dont know. Keep us interested. I for one dont plan on leaving FE or this forum. So I would definitely be upset if FE lost its support from TW. Since I started FE in early '08 I though the ExpPack and Nov'08 update was the greatest thing. And I couldnt wait for the next ones. Tap tap tap. Tap tap tap. Been a long time. Throw us a bone TK! What I dont understand is, why call FE2 FE2? If it's not going to include anything new other than fixes for operating systems, then why the different name. Why not just have FE(1) patched like other games do? Thats what is confusing everyone. Well, me anyway. I would really like to know TW intent for FE. There really isnt any answers at TW either. Keep getting conflicting answers. Im getting my new PC in a couple of days. It's an HP with Windows7. So I'm a little worried about transfering all my FE files over to my new setup. Some people say FE works just fine with W7. I hope so. I dont mind buying FE2 if I have to. I'm really not looking forward to remodding the new FE2 install to get it the way I had it with my FE1 using XP. Even if my FE works with W7 it's still very time consuming transfering all the data. Almost 7.5G worth of data. Argh!
-
If there are any goodies with FE2, then those of us that dont need to buy FE2( because our install works just fine with XP) wont ever get to see or use them. Does that mean we'll have to buy the same game over again just for some updates? Doesnt make much sense to me. All this stuff should just have been in another expansion pack for all to enjoy. This is getting too confusing. What the heck is FE2? and what is going to be the next ExPack? Will the next ExPack be for FE1 or FE2. Or will it be compatable with both? Will people with FE1 be able to mod along side people with FE2? Questions, questions, and more questions. I'm I being Bitchy or what! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you 100% on that. From those pics what's different?
