Persian Gulf overwatch..

Here's a simple mission I just set up in the Persian Gulf. The target was a group of SCUD vehicles on the Iranian coast, protected by AAA vehicles. I also set up 2 Los Angeles submarines close to the Iranian coast. The one to the west of the target area was set up as an object group, the other was to the south and set as a naval fleet. By the time I got to the target area both subs were pumping out Harpoons and there wasn't that much left for me and my wingman to hit. Ships will do the same, engaging land and naval targets with guns and missiles as long as they're within range. Here's a USN ship egaging a group of suspect dhows somewhere in the Persian Gulf

I've seen ships engage land targets with guns and missiles if the ship is close enough to shore.

What if the 42ECS, which provides USAF personnel to the USN growler squadrons, gained it's own aircraft and deployed to RAF Upper Heyford in homage to it's historic EF-111A deployment.. But of course, that's a what-if because RAF Upper Heyford closed in the early/mid 1990's for redevelopment, and the 42ECS instead became part of the 48FW at RAF Lakenheath... The squadron joined the other USAF Superhornets units based there, namely 493FS flying the F/A-18E, together with 492Fs and 494FS operating the 2-seat F/A-18F
