  2. H.A.W.X.

Ok I played the PC version and,you do have a HUD, The visuals look like the real border town, and the lens flare as you come around and it hits you in the eyes dose remind me of El Paso. The only think I found wanting is the fact that the basic load of the Jets is definitely from Hollywood. If you strafe to low you feel the pinging sound of hits. haven't played it a lot as have been bz. Note these comments are for the PC version.

  13. Just as a point of ref. GREAT BY THE WAY http://www.ausairpower.net/WW2-PGMs.html ATSC VB-1/VB-2 Azon and VB-3/VB-4 Razon Guided Bombs The Azon series were the first US guided bombs to be used operationally. The VB-1 Azon - short for 'Azimuth Only' - was a radio command link controlled tailkit attached to a standard M44 and later AN-M65 1,000 lb bomb body. The Azon entered production in 1943, after earlier development by USAAC's Air Technical Service Command. The Azon used an annular tail assembly like the Fritz-X, was roll stabilised like the Fritz-X, but could only be steered in azimuth and thus it range error on delivery was similar to a dumb bomb. The Azon guidance package was limited to five preset radio channels, limiting the number of concurrent drops during a raid. The Azon kit was produced until November, 1944, by which time 15,000 units were built. It was deployed in the ETO from February, 1994, and used extensively in Burma for bridge dropping strikes. The 15th AF in the Mediterranean is credited with Azon attacks on the Danube river locks, and the Avisio viaduct. In Burma, Azons were used to destroy 27 bridges using 493 rounds, including the famous Kwai River bridge. In parallel with the Azon, ATSC developed the more sophisticated Razon, which used a dual channel control link for range and azimuth guidance. The VB-3 was based on the 1,000 lb and VB-4 the 2,000 lb warheads. The Razons used two tandem annular wing assemblies, the aft assembly used for control. The guidance command link used up to 47 preset channels. Around 3,000 Razons were built during 1945, but the weapon did not see significant use until the Korean conflict, where B-29s carrying up to 8 rounds were use to attack bridges. The VB-5 was an Azon derivative with a optical homing seeker which never saw production, the VB-6 Felix used an infrared seeker but was cancelled in 1945. The Douglas VB-9 was a radar guided cruciform wing glidebomb, also cancelled in 1945. The VB-10/VB-11/VB-12 Roc used tandem annular surfaces, with TV, heatseeking and command link guidance. All were cancelled in early 1945. The largest weapon in this family was the Bell VB-13/ASM-A-1 Tarzon, which was a guided derivative of the RAF's 12,000 lb earther penetrating Tallboy bomb. It used tandem annular surfaces, and the guidance used an AN/ARW-38 command link transmitter and AN/URW-2 guidance receiver, with a flare in the tail like the Fritz-X/ The Tarzon was used during the Korean conflict and is credited with six bridges. PBS also had a great tv program on this bomb development, and deployment during WW2. The Incendiary at the tail was to aid in the visual aiming of the bomb.

  21. Hunt for Scuds

Patriots missles roflol those things realy only had about a 60% hit ratio(if that good) most scuds just broke up due to stupid attempt to enlarge the fuel tanks. Trial by fire The AN/MPQ-53 radar system used by the Patriot for target detection, tracking and missile guidance Prior to the Persian Gulf War, ballistic missile defense was an unproven concept in war. During Operation Desert Storm, in addition to its anti-aircraft mission, Patriot was assigned to shoot down incoming Iraqi SCUD or Al Hussein short range ballistic missiles launched at Israel and Saudi Arabia. The first combat use of Patriot occurred 18 January 1991 when it engaged what was later found to be a computer glitch.[4] There were actually no SCUDs fired at Saudi Arabia on 18 January[5] This incident was widely misreported as the first successful interception of an enemy ballistic missile in history. Throughout the war, Patriot missiles attempted engagement of over 40 hostile ballistic missiles. The success of these engagements, and in particular how many of them were real targets is still controversial. Post war video analysis of presumed interceptions suggests that no Scud was actually hit[6]. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIM-104_Patriot Throughout the Gulf War there were continuing military and news reports of the Patriot's success in intercepting and destroying Iraqi Scuds. The Army initially said the Patriot achieved an 80 percent success rate in Saudi Arabia and 50 percent in Israel. Those claims later were scaled back to 70 percent and 40 percent. However, not long after the war's end, analysts began to question the Patriot's performance. The Army and Patriot's manufacturer, Raytheon Company, vigorously defended the system and said it was a Gulf War success story. After a 10-month investigation in 1992 by the House Government Operations Subcommittee on Legislation and National Security, the subcommittee concluded there was little evidence to prove the Patriot hit more than a few Scud missiles launched by Iraq. Another 1992 investigation done by the General Accounting Office found that only 9 percent of the Patriot-Scud engagements "are supported by the strongest evidence that an engagement resulted in a warhead kill." (The GAO defined "the strongest evidence" as instances in which Scud debris or radar data indicated that a Scud was destroyed or disabled after a Patriot detonated near it.) Except in 9 percent of the cases, the GAO report said the Army could prove only that "the Patriots came close to the Scuds, not that they destroyed them." Both reports, as well as studies by analysts (in particular MIT scientists George N. Lewis and Theodore A. Postol) concluded that Gulf War television pictures showing Patriots chasing Scuds were misleading. The television images didn't fully reflect that a number of the Patriots were just wounding Scuds or pushing them off course; big chunks of both missiles then fell to the ground. In Israel, the amount of damages and casualties increased after the Patriots were deployed there. FRONTLINE interview with Bernard Trainor concerning the Patriot's performance. FRONTLINE interview with Rick Atkinson concerning the Patriot's performance. RAYTHEON'S REBUTTAL: Raytheon Company, manufacturer of the Patriot missile system, strongly disagrees with critics of the Patriot's performance in the Gulf War. Here is their statement. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT: Here is the Government Operations Subcommittee's 1992 summary report which criticized the Patriot missile's performance. (The full report was never published; this summary was included in the Activities Report every committee is required to file.) Suggested Reading: "Missile Wars" by Seymour M. 22. Aircraft Camouflage

well no matter how good the cammo is the human eye will detect movment way before it detects patterns, these days cammo on fast movers is realy for the ramp. It dose seem to work on rotory/helos. Now if your going about the same speed , and the opfor AC is below you it will have some positive effects.
  23. Aircraft Camouflage

Well ppl seem to grow into a Cammo Pattern , I remember when we went from leaf pattern to BDU's PPL hated the change. Do you know we just deleted the BDU just last April,as well as the brown tee shirts. Now a uniform is easy to replace, just think the problems in changing equipment cammo. So far on the ground I have only seem two digi hummers, they looked cool ,but wierd all at the same time.
