Widesky: all new environment for WOI/WOE/WOV (not FE!!!) WHAT IT IS: - all new 3D-clouds - custom colors for sky, haze, fog - custom colors for noon, sunset, dawn, night and everthing between - custom sun-glare effect (lensflare must be ticked on) - all new background textures - new cloud layers - much wider sky INSTALLATION: !!!!!!!!!!!! Important !!!!!!!!!!!! Make a backup/copy of youre "flight" folder and name it to something like "flight default". In case you dont like what you see, just delete it an rename the original folder back. Or do like I do: having different flight folders you can choose...... !!!!!!!!!!!! Important !!!!!!!!!!!! Extract widesky.zip in youre main thirdwire directory. (WOI, WOE, WOV) Or extract to a place of youre choise and place all the files in youre "flight" folder. KNOWN ISSUES: If you fly close to the overcast cloudlayer you will occasionally see some clipping issues. At least thats what I do with my ATI card.?? ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: Thanks to TK and crew for this fantastic series. And to all the modders making an outstanding game even more enjoyable!!! http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...ode=sst&id=2723 File Name: weather_mod.zip File Submitter: cellinsky File Submitted: 28 May 2006 File Updated: 17 Jan 2007 File Category: Environmental Mods This is a weather and 3D-cloud replacement for SFP4 and WOV My intention was to use 3D-clouds only. Horizonclouds on scattered and broken are removed. The coverage of the 3D-clouds span now almost to the horizon. Added 3D-clouds also to overcast. Inclement has denser 3D-clouds now, but slightly encreased view-distance. Lots of other changes as well (haze, sky, fog etc.). I did as I like it, so it is very much a matter of taste............... WideSky V1.0

@ Stick: If you mean something like sunrays, Im afraid its not. There are no volumetric lights supported in TKs sims. I hope one day we will have it, because it would make cloud-shadows possible.................. :nyam: cheers, Marcel -

Column5: Flightenvironment.ini, under [Day] and [Day1] look for: SkyColor=0.443,0.557,0.761 This are actually RGB values but in a decimal form (Red, Green, Blue , 0-100 instead of 0-255) You can try to reduce the red value first and then increase the blue one, just try........... or you can pick the values from the original flightenvironment.ini. Dont forget to make a backup...... canadair yepp, you picked the right entry. If you experiment with that, you will see that you can get "interesting" results. But never perfect for all situations. Mainly because the sun is cut so sharp at dawn and sunset. But thats hardcoded and only TK could do anything. The engine shows its age here............... Cheers Marcel -
WideSky V1.0

If you set like this "HorizonVertexHeight=0 <------------I think this entry is better" you will get negativ hills and mountains in the far distance (means the sky is darker than the horizon). This never happens in real live unless you have snow covering the tops. It looks better on flat ground, I agree. But on the korean map or over the alps, it kills the illusion for me......this is one of many compromises I had to make. -

Hi Never noticed that by myself, but its a typically z-buffer problem. Fortunately, it has nothing to do with my mod. I would recommend showing youre screeny at the thirdwire forums. So you may ask TK himself................... Marcel -
WideSky V1.0

"What do you have in mind next?" WideSky for FE: But this one is hard. I still have to find some workarounds due to the different engine............. (Z-Buffer and clipping) Not yet sure, if I will find some solutions. Cheers, Marcel -

Thanks everybody gets me red ears Hope it helps spoil the immersion-factor a bit. I tried to create a more real-life environmment. Dont get me wrong, I like the "cartoonish" approach of the default environment. But since the planes have evolved to a level wich is simply amazing (Kfir, A7 etc.), the environment is at a standstill. Wich is a shame IMHO, after all, thats what we fly in. I hope TK will some day improve here a little. It wouldnt take much effort with programming and and would come at almost no cost in performance. Cool dawn and hot sunset, occasionally cirrus-layers, cloudshadows and the like. But I think, thats not high on the list.............. good hunting Marcel -
