Settng Affinities in Windows 7 64
Sky High replied to von Baur's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have used Bill2's Process Manager. A small piece of freeware. Just "google" it. -
Widowmaker, I hope you observe good internet security. Is that your dog in your avatar? I am also owned by a Border Collie. Bloody clever mutts!

When I first saw the title, my first thought was that the moderators were getting a little overly enthusiastic around here!

What courage and dignity this little girl has.

One of the men, I'm sure you'd all like to have 'a chat with?'
Sky High replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in The Pub
I believe the sequence was hanging, followed by being cut down before death. Then they used to cut out the entrails and burn them in front of the still conscious condemned man. Next came the quartering. Provided the latter is done slowly, with a poorly-edged blade, and carried out by an untrained incompetent, that would be just about appropriate. -

You're all a lot kinder than he'd be to you. -
Apparently Obama has armed both sides of the Iraqi conflict. While it shows him up as a less than ingenious player of the 'game', it undeniably shows the continued astute business sense of the US military-industrial complex. On a more pessimistic note, the pieces on the board are becoming somewhat more Armageddonesquely-aligned with a very defined millenarian Sunni entity facing a Shia establishment shadowed by Tehran, while the Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and Israel sit expectantly on the edges of chaos. All we need now is for the Afghans and nuclear-armed Pakistan to get sucked in.

A reminder that it is not weapons that are dangerous, but people.

You know. folks, this sim is alive!

Even without add-on packs, WOFF represents a very complete package. It is also a paradigm improvement on OFF, which I could never really get into, but I find WOFF much more professionally finished and with great support from the developers.

ROF, FE2, or WOFF? (and a question or 2 about FE2)
Sky High replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Shores, I would first of all try Jan Tuma's terrain, Peter's FMs, Realistic Sky Mod for FE2, and some of the various sound mods and perhaps the 'headshake mod', which are a matter of personal taste. Get a feel for the stock planes and for the game as a whole. Later on, you can try the multitude of modded planes available. -

Keif, I wouldn't swear to it, but I think trees do not present as collidable objects in FE2. I believe they do in WOFF-at least everything else I have managed to crash into has been fairly solid! Mind the fences. Lima, a lot of people seem to be running WOFF quite well on sub-optimal systems; I think it was a case of excessive honesty by the developers. I find it a big improvement on OFF, which, quite frankly, I lost interest in fairly quickly. I think we now have a treasure of riches in our obscure little hobby. Not a bad complaint. I feel FE/FE2 will continue to edge it for sheer feeling of combat and elan, once you mod it up a little. -

All three are excellent games, probably FE/FE2 and WOFF for singleplayers, as both have very challenging AI. You can get RoF for free, with the Albatros DVa and SPADXIII as flyables, if you wish to try it out. There are also some AI mods which improve things somewhat. -
Strange issue with controller causing lag
Sky High replied to ShockNAwe's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Still working good as new for me. I have the same thing with the 6640 drivers-can't adjust vibration, unless there is an in-game facility. Hopefully, they will eventually come up with a driver that fits all-they say they're working on a new driver. -

I've had problems over the years with various Black Widow drivers. I would recommend that you try http://www.speedlink.com/?p=2&cat=313&pid=1533&paus=1 and download both. Try them all on a trial-and-error basis, one should work. I find the 6640 works best for me. There is also a new 6640 SBK v.4 available in the main Speedlink website, but it only works in RoF for me. If you remove the drivers, you've probably lost the vibration feedback, so if you like that, you might like to try the other drivers. -
Setting up multiple versions of FE2
Sky High replied to Grinseed's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Welcome back. -
Jim, WOFF only recognises TrackIR 5 software (the latest version). I have TrackIR 3 as well and the latest 5 software works fine for me. Indeed, WOFF seems far better than OFF in this regard.

And they can throw in that 'Lostprophet' monster, he's even worse.

Il-2 mods
Sky High replied to hrc's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
All these mods are fantastic, in their own way, and free as the air! -
I know we have become spoilt for choice regarding WWI flight sim options, but has anyone noticed the new kid on the block?:
-
Yes, I have it on my pc. You need IL2-1946 patched up to the 4.101 patch, Ultrapack 3, topped with DBW 1.71, and finally DBW 1916 Update V2. The WWI mod is only in its infancy yet, but looks promising. As Gambit says, one can now fight in the Korean War, and some of the modders seem to be making Vietnam jets.
-
It's Il-2 DBW-1916. Presume there are alternative skins.

I'm using Stary's SARCASM 1.3 mod for my sky-find it very nice indeed, and fps-friendly too. For my sounds, I just downloaded everything I could find on CombatACE and selected what I liked best myself, mixing and matching until I got the desired balance.
