File Name: Industrial Objects File Submitter: Geezer File Submitted: 12 February 2015 File Category: First Eagles Object Mods This pack contains a variety of large, medium, and small industrial objects - plus two urban housing blocks. They were originally developed at the request of FE map makers so their appearance is typical of WW1. Wrench then pointed out that they could also be used for other maps - 1930s, WW2, and even parts of the Cold War. A modest selection of complimentary 1930s civilian vehicles is in development, and will be added in the future. THESE MODELS ARE ONLY TO BE DISTRIBUTED AS FREEWARE AND IN NO OTHER CIRCUMSTANCE SHALL THEY BE USED, EVEN IN PART, OF ANYTHING THAT IS PAYWARE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE COMBAT ACE MODDERS AGREEMENT. Industrial Objects

Thought I'd move this stuff out the door, as I want to concentrate on the CR42 and then start the harbor objects. The civilian vehicles are about 3/4 done and will get finished sometime in the next few months. -
It may not be a case of one or the other. The heavy handed intervention by the White House in what should be a straight forward administrative decision implies that it's BOTH.

WASHINGTON — Republican Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Ajit Pai hosted a press conference on Tuesday to discuss with reporters about his concern about President Obama’s proposal “to regulate the internet.” Pai cited concerns ranging from the proposal causing heavy-handed FCC regulations on the internet to the plan being a “gift to trial lawyers.” TheDC: Previous attempts at regulating the internet have been shot down in the courts, why is it that this one seems to be a little scarier than the last ones? PAI: Two different reasons. One is the unprecedented involvement of the executive branch in our decision-making. Traditionally the FCC has been an independent agency that, even though I and the other chairmen are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, we’re considered to be independent and render expert objective judgment about some of these difficult policy questions. Here what you have is the president in an unprecedented way saying explicitly, “Not only do I want the FCC to do XY and Z, but this is the legal theory I want them to use to support it.” I think once that announcement was made, the trajectory of how our decision-making was proceeding, I think the writing was on the wall and the FCC felt like it was under enormous pressure to do what the president wanted us to do. And so that’s one fact. MORE: http://dailycaller.com/2015/02/10/fcc-commissioner-unprecedented-involvement-of-executive-branch-in-our-decision-making/

Correct - it IS the fortress at Przemysl. I originally made the fortification objects in response to requests from the FE map makers. Later, I expanded the selection so the objects could be used in other times and places.

That is a test tile in 3dsMax. I first made a plane 500m x 500m, then applied the art. Then, I Tessellated the plane which divided it into many smaller polygons, with points at the intersections. I then selected those points that sorta/kinda matched the gully and moved the points downward to form a kind of V channel in the plane. That is the quick and dirty way to roughly simulate a gully. A better way would require more points, which would enable you to make a floor to the gully with slanted sidewalls.

Got some more work done on the civilian vehicles, and made some experimental 2048 terrain art applied to a FE 500m tile. If the large tile art doesn't slow the fps too much it may be possible to really improve map appearance.

Outstanding visual effects. Nice castle too.

Outstanding!

I checked out the website, but modding TW is within my comfort zone right now. Maybe in the fullness of time.....

Understand that I know almost nothing about making maps. I think you need to learn how to use the Terrain Editor to place objects on a map. Can some one with map making knowledge help this guy out?

The odd-looking biplane twin in the 8mm footage was the Vickers Valentia, an obsolete bomber-transport still in use because nothing else was available.

Found an interesting modder-made video of the East African air war. The interesting footage starts about midway, and features some personal 8mm film footage of the obscure, obsolete aircraft operated by the Brits in 1940. EDIT: Should've said South Africans instead of Brits. The main event was Egypt/Libya, and featured the same eclectic mix of obsolete aircraft as East Africa.

The map guys have asked for some better industrial objects - progress shots below. I've finished the really big fabrication/assembly halls - intended for shipyards and large industrial areas such as the Ruhr. Now, the selection of smaller factories and warehouses - shown in the foreground - is being expanded. These are more appropriate for most locations, and the map guys say they can be placed more easily on existing maps. There will also be a refinery and coal yard to cover WW1, WW2, and the Cold War. The terrain tile is SF 1000m with 2048 art - the large size may now be realistic with Gerwin's addition of JPEG format to his TFD tool. None of the industrial objects shown uses art larger than 512x512 - a few use 256x256.

Thanks, I am feeling better and got some work done on the Citroen TA. While the civilian vehicles are intended for use with the industrial objects, they can also be used elsewhere. Quick and dirty concept shots of TA and CR42 WIPs, combined with some WW1 pilots and a hangar from the 1930s airfield objects. Guys can have a good time customizing their installs in the near future.
