I've been upgrading some of the "standard" buildings artwork found in many mods. If the upgraded art is of any interest to you, contact me and we can figure out if the new stuff could drop into your Flanders effort.

New Linen Skins For Steven1918's BE2c

Agreed - with 20/20 hindsight, the Royal Aircraft Factory designers do look like idiots. The BE2 was a pretty good plane when it was first designed and built - before the war. At that time, many other designs also placed the observer in the front cockpit. But those other designers responded to the ever changing requirements of aerial warfare and moved the observer to the rear, plus developed fairly effective gun mounts for the observer to use. But not the Royal Aircraft Factory. They were "comfortable" building the BE2, and saw no good reason to change, despite the BE2 being almost helpless in combat. That bureaucratic resistance to change cost the lives of hundreds of British airmen, and was a contributing factor to Bloody April in the spring of 1917. -
New Linen Skins For Steven1918's BE2c

New clear doped fabric skins for Steven1918's BE2c. These were developed primarily for the Palestine mod, but can be used for most any other theater or location. Two shots below show experimental Max environment, based on some old CA terrain textures - I think they were from Eritrea. Once the mod is done, I might make some hi-res terrain textures as a follow-up. -
Yesterday, I spent a frustrating morning trying to introduce new pilots into FE2. The best I was able to do was black figures, devoid of skin artwork, that were located correctly in the cockpit and whose heads would swivel correctly. I had named the new pilots "ww1PilotNew1", "wwiPilotNew2", etc. I give up - do any of you guys know how to associate a new pilot with a specific aircraft.........or with all aircraft in general? Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks, guys.

Really nice work! The irregular look of the city was worth the long, tedious effort. Is the blue train the Orient Express?

Yeah - we'd love to see some screenshots!

Some of the desert-specific stuff.

Re-posting this after CA's hardware hiccup. I've made desert versions of the balloon winches and AA guns for the Palestine mod.

The smart/fast way to make stationary aircraft would be to start with a complex 3D model of a flyable aircraft and then simplify it. I'll contact Steven1918 and see what he has laying around - maybe I use some of his 3D models as a starting point for some simplified models? No promises, but this is a good idea so I will look into it.

Yes, the BE.2c is flyable - it is available from CA downloads and I should finish the new textures soon-ish. The Halberstadt will be flyable when I finally finish it. Making some aircraft that are parked or undergoing maintenance is an interesting idea. No way can I make over a hundred different types, but I could probably make roughly a dozen generic machines that could be placed around an airfield. Photos show that older aircraft were still used in 1918 for second line duties, so 1916/1917 looks like it might be the "sweet spot" for stage props? Does anyone know if decals can be applied to ground and terrain objects? I doubt it, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Predator and prey. Took a break from the Halberstadt and started new textures for the BE.2c
