This is what a true hero is not a sports star or Hollywood star... This was posted on my Facebook by a friend... I have not edited it in any way... And think of the media circus, and all the things that are said of Hollywood "celebrities" when they die. This hero died with barely anyone's notice. No Comment required "Shifty" By Chuck Yeager Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them. I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn't know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle," the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat. Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made. Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and was in until sometime in 1945 ..." at which point my heart skipped. At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . do you know where Normandy is?" At this point my heart stopped. I told him "yes, I know exactly where Normandy is, and I know what D-Day was." At that point he said "I also made a second jump into Holland , into Arnhem ." I was standing with a genuine war hero ... and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day. I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France , and he said "Yes... And it 's real sad because, these days, so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart was in my throat and I didn't know what to say. I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in coach while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I'd take his in coach. He said "No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still some who remember what we did and who still care is enough to make an old man very happy." His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming up now as I write this. Shifty died on Jan. l7 after fighting cancer. There was no parade. No big event in Staples Center . No wall-to-wall, back-to-back 24x7 news coverage. No weeping fans on television. And that's not right! Let's give Shifty his own memorial service, on line, in our own quiet way. Please repost to everyone you know. Especially to the veterans. Rest in peace, Shifty. Chuck Yeager, Maj. General [ret.] P.S. I think that it is amazing how the "media" chooses our "heroes" these days... Elvis, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston & the like.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FNAoPtdIg0 Here's a BBC Documentary on it. It is rather good and deals primarily with the military campaign missing though is the raids by the Vulcans and more importantly the Sea Harrier. Here though is a Doc on the Vulcan Black Buck Operations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40knj0qg_Us

Okay and what Planet is this guy sat on was wondering who this idiot was after the postings for the past couple of weeks of inane stupidity and the lowest intelligence. Even the arguments between some people have merit but this is just pure and simple idiocy and trolling... All I have ever had from the community here is a a sense of enjoyment in what they do for Flightsimming and long may it continue Many thanks Eric and everyone else who post here with some intelligence.

Favorite production Military Aircraft of 2012
Slartibartfast replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
Okay call me strange many have... but I would go with the Super Hornet because it does what it says on the tin Strike Fighter and it is true Multi-Role Fighter Strike Tanker Jammer there aren't many Jets that can claim to do all that... and also because I prefer the legacy Hornet over the Falcon... -
To be honest only saw a few movies at the cinema this year and must admit the ones I did see were all pretty good best I saw for 2012 was Skyfall though probably because it delivered what I was expecting in spades in my opinion...

But to be honest it can never hurt to run a seperate Anti-Virus or Trojan/Malware protection program after something like this... I have seen it a few times and I have also seen it were it has dropped some nice presents on the host machine. -

Also while updating the software open the box and give it a good clean out if it's a PC as the amount of dust that gets inside them is amazing... and while your doing it check the connections or even better pull out the cards and plug them back in, but only if you are comfortable doing it otherwise just give them a gentle push in. -

Definitely a virus or malware also download a new virus checker preferably from another PC and Malwarebytes is also a good option run them both and that should hopefully sort it all out. -

It is a good feeling for doing something for nothing for someone... Generally as a biker I end up doing it at least once a year for a fellow biker helping out someone broken down at the side of the road even if its just to sit there until the recovery truck arrives or as has happened I nip off and get them petrol etc and not ask for anything in return apart from that they do it for someone else... maybe I should expand to others...
