"The list index is out of bounds" so says Zip genius. I've downloaded it 6 times. You must be luckier than I. -

A Bug with Green Hell 2 or New Textures?
zmatt replied to Stretch32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
looks to me like the cloud is on top of the terrain texture but lower than the trees. Foggy mountains. -

Mis Match?
zmatt replied to Viper6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
SAHM missiles don't do very well against targets down low. Roll over and hit full burner and get down in to the weeds and stay there. The missiles will miss. pass them up, pull back hard and make a loop, lock on with your winders and send a few up their tail pipes. I use this tactic to smoke Flankers all the time in early vipers. -
I've started to fly the Viper a lot more lately and I'm having a great time with it. The MF Vipers are killers. One thing I'm trying to get used to is the hud, since most of the instrumentation in a glass cockpit is replaced by MFDs, a lot of that info mach number, radar altitude etc is on the hud. I've been able to figure out a few through trial and error, but I was wondering if someone could point me to a diagram of the F-16's HUD symbology.

HUD symbology
zmatt replied to zmatt's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks, this will really help out. I was referring to the Block 1 and Block 10 MF F-16s. Why didn't MF make an F-16C? -
NF3, no Genies?
zmatt replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
^That explains why I get redundant red missiles. I have AA-12s and R77s listed. one has folding fins on the rear and the other doesn't, but I forget which. -

NF3, no Genies?
zmatt replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
odd, I didn't know that. Is this just NF3? I have NF2 and NF1 on my main installation and it uses the community weaps pack. Aside form some odd loadouts everything works fine. I haven't tried the NF campaign, which is what you probably mean come to thing of it. I'm not one for campaigns. I imagine if I tried to start one then there would be some issues. -

Use the community weap pack. It has more wepaons than the MF one although they are of varying quality. -

I noticed that with the default FM it has a tendancy to nose up and climb on its own. Is there a way to fix this, or is it supposed to be that way? I don't know much about the deuce. -
No warning of SAM?
zmatt replied to i fight by 1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There isn't anything in game that will warn you of an infrared SAM launch except for your own eyes. There are a few systems that detect infrared SAMs IRL, but their effectiveness can be disputed. We had a thread around here the other day tlaking about it. -
You think its sensitive today? Back in the 80's you risked frying all the chip on your board if you touched it. I've fried several old micro-controllers while working on little personal embedded projects. Today components can take several thousand volts of static discharge. I've built pcs on shag carpet before, never once had anything fried. BTW I wouldn't really recommend cheiftec psu's either. There are really only 4 brands I trust for consumer grade Power Supplies. Seasonic, Pc Power and Cooling, Rosewill (only for lower end), and Corsair. I would recommend that instead of investing so much in a ups you should put the money into the power supply. UPS's are expensive, lose perofrmance over the years and really are only needed for mission critical systems. Servers and some very important workstations mostly.

IRWR
zmatt replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think ultimately we can say it was caused by complacency. Forget what weapons system took it down. If the stealth guys weren't so over confident and planned it like they were flying a conventional air craft then it would not have happened. Flexibility is the key to airpower! -

IRWR
zmatt replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
After reading that I get the impression that it is essentially IR seeker heads hooked up to a computer that processes the information. Come to think of it, that seems like a pretty effective way to do it. Place them in the nose, wingtips, bell, and in the tail and you can get pretty much 360 coverage. The seekers in modern IR missiles can discriminate against things like the sun and reflections already. Why not use them to find other IR missiles? -

F-102 Delta Dagger
zmatt replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Great mod! I've been waiting on this one for a long time. There are a few issues. The AB emitter is off center a bit, the mighty mouse rockets fire about 30 seconds after pulling the trigger, and the tail hook doesn't work. They are all pretty minor and I think they are all .ini edits. Otherwise it tons of fun to fly. -

That was for the Lima though. It was solid state and all aspect. Could you expect the same from AIM-4s and Echo Sidewinders? -
Good modern psus Have fuses in them in case of things like that. The psu will be shot but it will save your pc. That same guy who had the bad luck with power supplies had his motherboard fried on the last one. Power supplies are interesting beasts, you would think that they all are made the same but a lot of the cheap ones lack the safety features of the better brands. Corsiar has a set of videos on their website where they show cheap psus blowing up when they try to take them to their full rated load. http://www.corsair.com/cinema/movie.aspx?id=622747 It's a little biased, but they are right.
