  1. The yellow box IS a radar lock. I dont know how it works on easy, but on normal and hard you must use a couple of keys (look for them into the Options menu, you can also change them if you want) to navigate through the picks on the radar and then use another one to try for a lock once you get to the one you want. EDIT: And a radar lock allows you to use radar guided missiles like the Sparrow, which have greater range than the IR missiles and are also all-aspect.
  2. Let me guess, a "well disciplined" F-105 squadron?
  3. Actually I must say Im very skeptical about this TES game. Oblivion was a great disappointment (at least for me). Even though graphics were good and the new combat system much better everything else was cut down compared to Morrowind. Much less lore, less skills, less factions, less weapons (I still want my crossbow!), magic was a joke... It was obviously a console game destined for casual gamers. Only after a couple years of excelent mods (such as Midas Magic or Oscuro´s Oblivion Overhaul) did it become good enough. BTW I still play Morrowind. Its awesome.
  4. I dont know about easy settings, its been years since I played with such. ARM missiles only work against ground radars. Off course you might want to try to use it like a rocket, but its quite ridiculous. Radar usefulness depends on the radar model. F-4 radar can track and lock on air targets, can spot ground objects (but cannot tell you the difference between them, so a T-54 looks the same as a SA-2, a yellow blob on the screen) and also has boresight function.
  5. You dont need to do anything with the Shrike but point to the radar and fire. After that it will try to lock and turn, but mind it can fail. I usually fire them from 5-6nm away while at 6000-10000ft. The radar on the middle and the one of the right top of the screen are one and the same. I think the right one its there because with some planes its hard to keep an eye on the radar without having a TrackIR. The other one you mention must be the RWR (Radar Warning Reciever), it tracks radar signals and warns you of those that lock on you. Each circle is a radar and the position on the screen shows you its relative direction from you. When you hear it beeping at a slow pace it means a radar (or several, along with the beeping you can see it flashing on the RWR screen) is tracking you. If all of a sudden the beep increase its pace and pitch a lot that means there is a lock on you and probably a SAM missile on its way, you better find where its coming from and try to counter it. You can get out of a radar lock by going low or using ECM combined with manouvering.
  6. "Search mode" means it tracks air signals, depending on the radar itself you might be able to chose different distances and also depending on the radar you might be able to lock on target at such a given distance (for instance, flying an F-4D you can lock a target up to 50nm away, but you can track it up to 200nm). "Ground mode" gives you a picture of the ground itself and the different targets you might find there, you cant lock on "Ground mode". Boresight will automaticaly get a lock of a target in front of you (with certain limits, off course), its useful for dogfights when you just want to focus on your target. The Shrike is an antiradiation missile. It locks by itself on ground radars, very useful against those nasty Fansongs and Flushes. Sidewinders doesn´t require a radar look, when you chose it you will hear a low growl as a background noise, get behind a target and wait until the growl becomes louder. That means the missile is locked on target and ready to fire. Same with the IR Falcons. Anyway, depending on the missile model you might be using it can be tricky. Earlier versions like the Sidewinder B/D/E are very unreliable, you must have a very good tone against a non manouvering target while being on the right position to achieve a kill. You must learn the best way to use them effectively but in any case dont be surprised if you can only get a 10%-20% of accuracy. Falcons are even worse. The Sparrows are more or less the same, except you dont have to be so picky on chosing when to fire (just be sure you dont point to the ground, again the ground clutter makes the radar goes nuts). Best situation is a head on at 6-7nm away 1000ft below your target, but most of the time is just praying it tracks to the end. Also dont use Sparrows C/D/E at close ranges, they are not dogfight missiles.
  7. I just got 8 flying a Mirage III during the Yom Kippur War campaign. The mission was to intercept and so we did. I had two quick kills with the Shafrir-2s against a couple Su-7 and then I began to strafe them left and right with the cannons, before I knew it I had kill 4 of them while the other 4 were downed by my wingmen. Not a minute after that a group of Mig-21 appeared and in the ensuing dogfight I took 2 of them for my total 8 before I ran out of ammo (its amazing how quickly those 250 rounds dissapear) and went RTB. Settings were all on hard except Enemy and Visual (wish I had a TrackIR) which were on normal. I dont think I´ve ever had more than 8, not even flying the F-15.
  8. Unless you get some mods there is no more gore than in early versions of IL-2. The gorest thing would be killing a bailed out pilot (something the AAA from all sides seems to do a lot), but there is no blood or anything, they just fall down and lay dead on the ground for a while.
  9. I have recently began to play IL-2 with engine management. So far i discovered that flying the Bf-109 is still more or less the same (long live the "planes for dummies") so i dont worry much about performance. My questions come from the other two fighters i usually fly, the F4F Wildcat and the F6F Hellcat. When i try to set the mixture i see that i can only use 120% or 100%. Its not like i usually fly too high on the Pacific campaigns but, i worry about the engine performance when i chase those Vals up to 4000 meters. Is there any way to get a lower mixture than 100%?. The level on the cockpit doesnt go all the way to lower when i set it on 100%, is that the way its supposed to be?. Should i worry about the supercharger or doesnt have much effect?. Thanks.
  10. Go fast and low is still a certain death on some areas. Close to Hanoi i was trying to get under the radar after several SA-2 fired at me, i was on a F-4D going full afterburner, around 700knts 100 ft, tons of s**t were raining upsidedown on me until a single 57mm got me right into the left wing, i didnt even had time to swear, i crashed instantly. Also if you fly below 20.000 ft at low speeds there is a high chance that a big gun will get you or your wingman. I must say any strike mission during Linebacker I or II is just nuts.
  11. True, WoV has a practice carrier landing mission on an F-4. Very useful for newbies (at least it was for me).
  12. That makes sense. Thank you.
  13. Whats the problem with a laser pointing to an airplane (besides the obvious hitting the pilot on the eyes)?. P.S Im not trying to be sarcastic, ironic or defending the little s**t, im honestly curious about it cos i dont know.
  14. Sexiest(Coolest) Plane Ever

    Go F-4!. Power > Aerodynamics
  15. You can edit the data.ini of each plane, find the line "ExhaustEmitterName=whateveritshere" and replace it with "ExhaustEmitterName=".

Ojito ahora con los tulipas, que Robben y Sneijder querrán dedicarle un mundial a Florentino Perez. Por aquello del "Bien-vendidos".

  18. OFF TOPIC

  19. There is a tool on the downloads section that creates a false engine (can be throttle up or down with vector controls) that adds fuel when throttle up (doesnt increase speed). You can use it on any plane (better backup _DATA.ini file before) except those like the Harrier. You can pretend there is a tanker at certain point before the mission and go for it if you dont have enough fuel to reach your base. http://combatace.com.../7350-refueler/
  20. Mig-21 AI can be outturn even if it cheats, it usually breaks from a turn much sooner than the Mig-17 despite the building up speed. I have seen it in WoV and in WoI many times. Against the Mig-17 its even less of a worry if they cheat or not. They cant get to you no matter what, unless you fall into their "dumb&dumber" slow turning game.
  21. OFF TOPIC

A ver si esos Prusianos demuestran tener algo en las entrañas.
  22. Battle of Cambrai - Stock

If you dare to, flight low, as low as few feet from the ground. The AI always chicken if you do that. They might get a burst or two at you, but they wont be able to follow you steady so its easy to shake them off.
