Chu containers & HESCO Wall
daddyairplanes replied to GKABS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
its a start. you will need some improvising on the corrugated building though. if i was doing it off the provided pics, i would do alot of cut and paste from the displayed end of the corrugated to make the longer segment, then cut and paste doors from the the little gray unit. also just blue out the placard for the building number, will look better and not with a blurry white zone. i am not certain if you are intending the above as one skin, or peices of two as they are irl. finally, much can be done with manipulating exising images. but sometimes you gotta improvise and rework things to fit better. thats what really builds ones Photoshop/GIMP skills! -

that will be excellent for an OEF and OIF update. some pics for further reference transient tents these were more common on the smaller bases (at least in my experience) nicer version of what i stayed in in Iraq. due to Hurricane Katrina, some references to FEMA reject trailers were made food joints at Ali Al Salem AB, Kuwait never managed to get a McRib until stateside though barbershop, PX and MWR not shown Kandahar Airfield, 2009 bunker (where a great many cigarettes were smoked waiting for the all clear from a rocket attack) my home for about six months or so (the others looked very similar view walking towards the DFAC or Boardwalk, depending on if you veered left or right at the road something one of my joes tried getting to run again. not sucessful, but he tried me, hard at work not the greatest sample of pics (especially the home copies) but a small sampling of life inside the wire -
Widescreen?
daddyairplanes replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
good info to know. next second monitor ( i run off laptops) is likely gonna be a 32 to 42 in TV so a lil different than the current 17 in screen or 24 in monitor. Hi Skipper, an Merry Christmas to ya and your family -
as said on FB try looking at Xidax. used a chunk of VA backpay to get myself a laptop (i7-6700K with overclock to 4.0GHz, 32 GB RAM, 2TB HDD space, 17.1in screen, nVidia GTX1070 and around $3200 3 years or so ago) so went almost all out. but for a desktop their mid range systems are very capable and not too bad (again esp. if your thinking alienware) https://www.xidax.com/desktops and win10 isn't too bad when you get used to it. i keep my old win7 system as a backup and actually am getting a little frustrated when i fire it up occasionally due to things i've grown used to in win10 finally i goofed and have the latest update (1803) thats supposed to zonk alot of programs. SF2, GIMP, and Civilization V on Steam work fine so far.

Control tower
daddyairplanes replied to GKABS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
proper barracks (or dorms on USAF bases) and office buildings would be awesome for all current airbases, rather than the rows of quoanset hut wannabes currently in game. I n my own experience Bragg (except for 19th Replacement in the late 90s), Pope, Schweinfurt, Frankfurt, Bliss, Benning, Lee all look very different than rows of huts. for that matter, Kandahar and Bagram were more like construction site trailers than curved huts. even rows of other buildings would make the airbase eyecandy massively pop. and that is an awesome amount of detail for the inside of a control tower! -

Decals placement question
daddyairplanes replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
aint nobody got time fo dat seriously though, i usually get a ballpark location from the lodviewer, as most of my projects start with blanking out the main skin in the first place. i say ballpark, as i usually have to tweek some from what i get in the viewer, but i also tend to be goofy and get a measurement AFTER twirling it around to look at the skin. fine tuning i do the old fashioned way: fire up game, make notes, adjust, repeat. remember its a game every 5th adjustment and fly around. -

Decals placement question
daddyairplanes replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
without looking couldnt tell you about the mesh name. however that position seems too far back.-4.2575 is how far left the decal goes out(for a top facing tga),-3.0 is how far back it goes. one should start with 0.0 first then work your way around, and on a fighter size aircraft -3.0 seems rather far back. you may want to scale up as well until you get it better into position, and drop the decalmaxlod to 3 (its my default setting most of the time) -
Adding a rotating light to a building

Adding a rotating light to a building
daddyairplanes replied to GKABS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
down load this, study the entries, adjust as needed for your use. somewhere also is an post about adding smoke to buildings (like powerplant exhaust stacks). that should also have some relevant clues. not sure if one can make a light rotate, but it can be made to blink and the blink rate can vary. best advice until someone else posts -

SF Project-1 VS SF2: Should I Keep Project-1?
daddyairplanes replied to RIBob's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
no can do, the lods for them (SF1 pits) are TW copyrighted and verboten to upload here by community rules and US law. there are threads that mention how to load them i believe, way back in the archives from when SF2 was shiny and new. -
SF Project-1 VS SF2: Should I Keep Project-1?
daddyairplanes replied to RIBob's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion

decals system
daddyairplanes replied to mue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
one skin, many camo's? who does such madness? US insignia and squadron tail markings on the F-102 were one of the things that moved my opinion towards tga. but yes if you have a larger scaled skin insignia (and not a whole lot of varied camo tgas) it can work just fine on skin. -

decals system
daddyairplanes replied to mue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
[Decal001] MeshName=Fuselage ---------------- actual node it goes on. limit 3 tga per (your viewer make this sooooo much easier for the likes of me to find this out) DecalLevel=2 ---------------------------- 4 different levels. O ties to nation, 1 ties to unit, 2 is serialized and unique to each aircraft, 4 is kills iirc. 2 is normally used for serial numbers but can be used for individual schemes/camoflage or nose arts DecalFacing=RIGHT ----------------- self explanitory. all basic directions included TOP, FRONT, LEFT etc FilenameFormat=B-52G_89/DiegoGarcia/D/FuseR naming convention. game starts looking where guruu pointed out and does not need included in this line. the D folder in this is not really needed, but a habit amongst the senior modders that i picked up Position=-2.75,0.0 Rotation=0.0 Scale=48.00 ----------------------------------------------- not usually this big. can be either side of the decimal point, mine are often huge due to a tga covering the whole fuselage side or wing. but one could make a bigger tga with high detail and scale below 1.0 to place on model DecalMaxLOD=3 --------------------- Wrench can explain better than me, but iirc has to do with distance visible biggest issue often encountered is typo's in the fileformat and position being off model. DecalMaxLOD can cause some issues too, again not THE expert on that. I usually default to =3 on most of my work. the ini can be huge. the displayed project is already at 130+ entries and I am going to add two more showing the EVS in better detail personally i prefer tga for many markings to on skin. it seems to show detail better in some instances than skins (esp when the original skin is smaller; 512 rather than 2048 or 4096) one other trick that can be done with 2 level decals is to have a base decal and then one or two specials. example thisDecal as a base then thisDecal000 as a CAG bird. the other however many will just use that default. HOWEVER, i found with the tankers i did that more than two individuals caused issues. i wound up having to create a tga for every single one and even then there were oddities past 10 aircraft loaded. hope this is useful information. just some observations from a guy that plays quite a bit with the tga file. -
