Quick question to the staff if I may?

there was but i dont recall seeing it since some site upgrades earlier in the year. you can PM Erik (HMFIC of the site) or repost the question in the site bugs section. he'svery good about responding quickly (at least same day, sometimes within a couple hours) -

Help!
daddyairplanes replied to amariani's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
as shown above but question is why bmp rather than jpg? smaller is better and it was pointed out to me once upon a time that jpgs in a dozen skin folders was less space than one common bmp folder in the main aircraft folder (plus two unique individuals) but you may have a reason, so im asking out of curiousity -

whats your lead time look like jeanba? wanting to get the AN-12s and IL-76 in Iraqi Air knocked out for ODS after i finish the Buffs, but that will honestly be turn of the year (will be doing 1980s G model after ODS, plus RL interuptions as always). still shouldnt be too different for 80-88 than it was in 91 mandatory screenie -
i agree. but once the family is ok and its determined that there was no likelihood of bodily harm, anger over the car is highly likely. esp if the driver did something dumb (text and drive, not clear an intersection) to cause the accident as to the video, all them shots and so few hits reminds me of this (consider it a backup plan if things continue to go south)

Adding texture to a layer
daddyairplanes replied to amariani's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
could this be the link ? and the gentleman with the FB page from turkey has had some skins that were photorealistic metal. my observation was that they were photos of hte real thing that were overlayed on the appropriate texture (this was post Mue lod viewer iirc) -
Adding texture to a layer
daddyairplanes replied to amariani's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
probably many methods that I can think of either play with brush type, size and opacity and make your patterns OR a solid but very transparent layer then same advise as the brushes but with the eraser. looks more like weathering to me, and have done both to weather skins (though brushes are more common) -

Colour conundrums and other musings

ah gotcha (sorry, ben on the road since last posted) iirc theres a bit in the knowledge base about decals and special skins for the models with drop tanks as part of the model, but it doesnt work on weapons like gunpods try making a copy of the gunpod. change names of each to the color of the gunpod (gun_green, gun_tan etc). then in the drop down menu you can select the correct color (having the proper texture in each folder of course). will be doing this down the line with B-52 pylons that are added in as fake gunpods (so that short pylons or long ones can be selected) and i think it is an answer to your problem as an old instructor of mine said, not THE answer, just AN answer. but given to help you get more gooder. -
Colour conundrums and other musings
daddyairplanes replied to Trotski's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
sorry another quick statement but it seems that they are gunpods rather than actual bits of the aircraft itself from if i unstand that correctly, what i do in that instance (using GIMP) is to have both items open at once, use color picker (the eye dropper) to select the desired color from the one texture, then go to the other texture and fill in or paint what you need to in the color from the first. i know it works in gimp as the tool bar stays the same across open windows. not sure about Photoshop (havent used it in a couple of years now so memories of how are fading) or other apps. if you want send me what your working on, will see if i can figure it out -

have you tried using Mues lod viewer? it has a feature to highlight a part on the displayed model, then right click and select show on texture (or something similar). change that part of the bmp or jpeg to what you need and it should work. reload that skin in the viewer and you wont even need to fire up the game to check your work (shame it doesnt work on decals too). experience has shown that the part you think you have may not be where you thought it was on the texture. and its been too long since i've been around you Tommys as i had to read that twice to see what your getting at! -
Bunch of questions
daddyairplanes replied to Dornil's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
2) cant say about the skin but iirc the Mig-17K was a what if aircraft for use on a (nonexistant in real life) Soviet aircraft carrier and as such would not have many skins. 3)iirc bullets holes are put on like decals, for minor hits. more major hits bring up the damage model, where pieces go missing and you see the spars and such sticking out. the bullet holes are usually tgas withing the aircraft or aircraft skin 4) 3DS Max 2009 creates LOD, but you have to edit the original max file to do most edits. if you mean removing parts of the aircraft say so and will point out the how later 5) AI skill level depends on the training level set for that nation within the nationlist ini. however even the highest levels of training still lead to "off" AI behavior in game. see my constant references to the Dos Gringos song "The Wingmen" 10) edit the nations list ini to add them in. see any of my airliners if you just want to plug a ready made ini into the flight folder, or add the entries at the end of your own if you wish (again see my airliners, most have a ready made and a plug in version, the plug in you add the numbers to fit it in at the end of your NATIONLIST.ini) 9) if you want historical accuracy, Google and Wikipedia are your friends..... if you want whatever you want, edit the start date to what you want. with ini editing you can have the Nimitz CVBG operating off the coast of Hawaii on 6 Dec 1941 sorry thats all i got on a lunch break away from my computer -
