ok split vote CSomers was the only one to engage other than voting and was inclined to all in one so final vote to tie break, im gonna do one massive skin (54 serials, about 20 nose arts and two specials). the two seaters will have a different folder thank you everyone that participated -
184th TFG issue...
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The 184th Tac Ftr Grp, Kansas Air National Guard operated three squadrons of F-16s for several years. However, the aircraft were never marked for the squadrons, all carrying Group or Wing markings instead. After seveal months of research, i've only found 6 C models that were attributed to the 127th TFS. thats only 6. -
nations/squadron markings for skins
daddyairplanes replied to yes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
get get a mod thats decal heavier like mine or Wrenchs also. one note, if you put all the decals as level 2 (serial numbers) it will work so long as you have all the decals in the noted folder. i find that useful even for insignia (that would normally be level 0) when one or two might be full color and the rest subdued. if you go that route with a decal that is the same across the board, simply put it as "decalName.tga" in the folder. then if you have one or two different. then simply make the different one "decalName(whatever number).tga" in addition to the regular one. you'll have to add the new nation specific decals to the noted decal folder anyhow since its not a stock nation and wont pull from the main game files. adding nations does make life tremoundously easier though when selecting teh aircraft in game -

joe baughers site would be good for that. it wont necessarily say which ones were in the 160th, but nobody else flies MH-60Ls its all in how you look for it -

Time to improve the old SF2 jets
daddyairplanes replied to GKABS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
well there are alot out there. many of the old all in ones like the original ODS and NF5 had the old SF1 versions ported to SF2. even ODS30AE has some of the same aircraft as nothing new was available. the KC-10 is uppermost on my mind there, the original model being from well before 2010 and merely getting skin updates as the years progressed. 5400+ mods here specific to SF2, but the first 1000 or so were just bringing the old gen up to the new ones standard -
My next terrain project
daddyairplanes replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
player flown, i use recon for that very purpose. of course the game being what it is, one has to take a brief detour into hostile territory AI flown, there is a transport mission, and when i did alot of my airliner skins i set up an airliner nation, so i could make a formation for it with the wide spaceing you'd expect to see. my thoughts at the time were on having civil planes flying during REFORGER, but same principle over Michigan or the British Isles -
Question about legality of using .LOD art assets
daddyairplanes replied to snowburn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
to be fair 3d modelling is one of the most time consuming disciplines in game making. opinions will vary with coding and terrain making(level building for non sims) depending on who you talk to.but those are the top three and the effort put into them rather justifies creator defense against someone else making one small change and claiming something new. we skinners, decal artists and simple ini editors are second tier no (matter how good we are) to the modellers, terrain builders and FM gurus -

nations/squadron markings for skins
daddyairplanes replied to yes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
similar to what he said about nations also applies to squadrons, and the SQUADRONLIST.INI. the one difference is that file goes in the PilotData folder, not the Flight folder (no i dont know why the difference) and the rest, is upto to you and the image editor of your choice -

Question about legality of using .LOD art assets
daddyairplanes replied to snowburn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
im confused between the title and content of post; the title suggests you want to use TW LODs. but the content seems more like you want to make something new if the third party modellers agree to you using their stuff then its perfectly legal. if they dont, then it is their IP. the issue is that most here dont have the lawyer money to sue someone if their model is used w/o permission. so in practical terms, you'd get banned from CA and mention in the same tones as Capun and YAP if you were to use a bunch of lods w/o permission if your talking TW lods, then of course that is piracy and TK does have the money for a lawyer if caught (whether he has the motivation is another stroy) but what youre talking abut seems to me very much like a Wings Over Flander Field situation; using SF2 as a base engine and then plugging practically everything else in. that might be worth looking at to see if its similar to what youre talking about i dont think you are talking about straight pilfering other lods (which is the holiest of holies for creative content in here). but still be prepared for the nastygram from the other Kevin -
Strike Fighters 2 - RED EDITION (ExpPack Mod)
daddyairplanes replied to Inostrancevia's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
not my site (ownership) and im all about freedom of expression. but i do agree that we need to work with the young bloods starting on this as well. so one could talk directly to him first, then put on blast if he's not willing to try to change (which he actually is, although lessons are admitedly moving slowly) if you tried talking to him before public posting then i completely unequivocally support it. even if you didnt i support your right to bitch in comments, although i might wonder about the content. and i admit, i left this mod alone until i saw you bitch about it ("what's got that Dutchman riled up so bad?" ). and again, im trying to give some suggestions to improve it (for starters credits and scope)- 6 replies

184th TFG issue...
daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
yeah i know 54 is the releatively confirmable single seaters. the two holers will be all one "184th" skin having a dozen more serials. then i have a half dozen that are listed as being Kansas ANG but are a little sketchy imo on actually being there (no pics, timelines in assignments seem a little off) -

speaking of such, whatever happened with your KC-10? would be nice to have a new model since teh last real ones are now retired, and i think we've done everything we can with Marcfighters old jet (which was pretty old when i first played with it many moons ago) -
