  1. Marine Phantom books

lotta pilots put out one book after vietnam; Trotti, John Flanagan (Vietnam Above the Treetops) and Mason (Chickenhawk). most even said it was more therapy and tell their story than becoming a writer or making money. and First to Fight did have some good photos in it. just a lot of my books haven't made it thru some of the recent moves. at least now the bulk of my library is digital and on 4 diff. hard drives!!!! for photo reference esp. Navy and USAF Phantoms cant beat the C&M series. 1-24 except for #15. just irked there isnt a #25 USMC F-4 Phantoms!
  2. Jonathan, if you are looking for the 2014-2018 timeframe you will probably want to go with a daul role trainer (like the Hawk) or a simpler jet due to their not having an air force and therefore the experience. look at the troubles the Luftwaffe had starting up esp after getting the Starfighters and that was with highly experienced Experten getting back into the cockpit... my two cents Hawk T1.A or Mirage F1's with modest glass cockpit upgrade. or even Isreali upgraded Mig-21s. Use helos for CAS, the jets will be busy holding off the Russians til the rest of NATO gets there.....
  3. Marine Phantom books

thanks for the replies all. your second post could be quite helpful Sundowner, i have Grey Ghosts already tho. agreed a good book, with much on the navy side for lo-viz, TPS. little sketchier on the Marines tho but some good shots nonetheless. i also have Phantoms over Vietnam GASCAN, good read but alas i need reference photos........ been strippin the net for all the model decals i can find too. a preliminary on why i ask....
  4. well with Dave starting a presidential campiagn slogan there, Larry Flynt just offered $1 million to anyone with pics of Dave holding a no nukes sign! :f***:
  5. a shot to the kneecap for the first offense, between the legs for all others (given most of our members are male.) and the beatings will continue until morale improves or Dave comes back to SF! seriously though like Eriks idea, plus possibly the moderator that approves a file could send the link to it prior to approval.
  6. oh and at HR and ALCON, i'm gonna try to get some squadron badges on the Danish 104's at night this weekend. me thinks that is the main problem with units not showing is the lack of decals. if it works will release the mini pack for inclusion here, as well as a Dutch pack by end week next week. the dutch tended to have one squadron badge from a wing on one side and the other squadron badge on the other. i believe the prime owner was on the right and other unit on the left, thats what i'll go with.
  7. good luck what ever your journey. i'm going to drill tommorow thru Sunday. i guess this thread will either be dead til then or we will come back to a million questions!
  8. Sounds very interesting. also keep in mind that many RL post war jets were built on German experience so the shape of Free World airpower could look very different......
  9. Pure awesome WBS. now i gotta get the Kai in the collection (old space saving habit from my 160 GB compaq. still not used to havin over 500GB avail after all the programs) Sundowner, i am now a dumba$$. i took fake pilot for my DECM on the J_74, then adapted a 74 Sqn skin to it! shoulda just ini edited the J_UK as it was basically a navy Phantom with a bit of brit kit (say that 3 times fast) under the hood. at school so i cant download right now, is the DECM part of the LOD or FakePilot'd on? more progress with Naval DLC decals
  10. U.S. Envoy to Libya, Killed in Attack

had not heard about the FAST deployment when i wrote. however, some years ago American servicemen deaths were tied to a regime in Libya. as i recall 6th Flt took care of naval and SEAD, the Air Force flew the longest sorties ever by fighter aircraft and dropped iron outside the tent of the man responsible. tho not likely the desired effect, he did get quiet for some time afterwards. back to the present its also believed most of the UAV assets are still operating in Libyan airspace http://theaviationis...2/drones-libya/
  11. looks good. where'd you get a J with DECM? looks better than mine
  12. as was stressed early in TOPGUN, use the vertical in teh Phantom. the USAF primarily used it as BVR interceptor or iron hauler (esp as an iron hauler) but the Navy was still using the Double Ugly for fleet defense into the 80's. and typically did it w/o the centerline gun pod. get way above or below your target, and use those J-79s or gravity as needed.
  13. well get the japanese speech files down, and i remember someone did a mod putting crackles and such in the files for the E-2 controller on Valium (Oyster 1, we're going down. yeah imagine that one for a laugh). the main prob likely right now in community is native japanese speaker, not editing capability.
  14. could keep a copy of the non working Genie for the range. the one that was practiced with that did not have a big nuclear boom was refered to as a "ting a ling." little pop, range grader scores it and really, its easier to just blow stuff up on the range than to actually simulate ACMI. just no big nuclear boom for historical properness.
  15. if he can't model nukes in DCS, Dave will be back. just need someone to make a groundobject of a giant plate of cookies to sweeten the pot...........
  16. U.S. Envoy to Libya, Killed in Attack

you know prior to 1979 this would have been considered an act of war, unless the nations leader apologized profusely and gave the shooters head to us on a platter. now i'm willing to bet our response is nothing more than "you shouldn't have done that." any Republican prez (or many of us as prez) and 6th Fleet would be getting in range for strikes right now.........
  17. at DCS prices for what they have (esp no Phantoms) i'm too poor to go!
  18. to paraphrase Red Storm Rising, you don't think they're really saying " here i am kill me do ya?" both sides play for virtuall keeps and agreed with wrench study WWII tactics for guns. for the 50s and beyond kill off as many as possible with missles at distance breaking up their mutual support.
  19. nother idea tho it would have to come from the other site...... found out today that the US Forestry Service bought 25 retired AH-1Fs and converted them for use in scouting and command and control of fire fighting. colors fairly similar to the USCG........ also E-3 Sentry for USCG/DEA efforts in the southern ADIZ
  20. thank you. the local ER says it's nothing. however they are worse than an army ER. if it continues tonight we're goin the next town over to their ER.....
  21. lets keep it in the 1000+ block for now. most of the red air skinners dont do level on decals, but add a units direct to the skin then decal the bort nums. i was thinking if anyone does ever get serious about a serious red air mod (like a mirror of NF5) but then they will likely want to complete the mirror effect and do a totally new list with blue air solely in the campaigns. but post 1000 listing would still help them out immmensly. sadly in the er with my wife right now(on her b-day no less) but while shes sleeping im looking up attack aviation bn's. got USAEUR., now tryin to find Vietnam and Conus.
  22. cool. good work on pulling the red air squadrons, i will likely make an alternate 900 block for those that want to fly red air. there was a project in the works awhile ago for Warsaw Pact Fighters but havent heard from that guy in quite a while now. i say alternate cause it can be plugged in for those that wanna try flyin red air. if not leave it as main. just need N. Korea and Chicom squadrons too for the otherside. does your nations.ini include the Army?
