An idea: Making USN NationName a level 1 decal
daddyairplanes replied to HomeFries's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
looks good for A-6 and prob Hornet as i think they had most of their carrier names near the service name. Phantoms and i believe Tomcats are a bit more problematic as they can be all over the airframe. i've got Forrestal on the tail, on the spine, back by the NAVY etc. Toms had the same variations esp earlier on. so for it to work it would have to be one huge decal and alot of testing to verify location on skin. that or place it above the NAVY anyhow and suffer the wrath of the rivetcounters........ -
An idea: Making USN NationName a level 1 decal
daddyairplanes replied to HomeFries's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
yours is an interesting idea at the moment but i think to easily affected by future patches. the only thing i can think of is that it would no longer be a part of the nationname grouping but rather purely tied in to the appropriate skin (NAVYxxx for USNGrey, USMCxxx for USMCGrey etc). no reason that shouldnt work, have it going on one of my skins with the insignia(though named star) to make a couple of squadrons insignia smaller as IRL. -
Question to the AH-1 Cobra
daddyairplanes replied to Gepard's topic in Military and General Aviation
Q had the original L-13, but this proved not powerful enough for the new anti armor role. AH-1R fitted the T-53-L-703 and a new transmission and saw an increase in performance only two buit as a testbed for the new engine. the S is the culmination of the improvements both in anti armor missles and engine/performance. idk as to P, E, and F although i believe the F was just an upgrade to keep them viable in National Guard service. hope this helps and does this mean new Cobras in the offing? got the info from Osprey combat aircraft #009 btw though abit dated being from '87 -

wery true on the skins Kevin, but i was pointing out how far one could go with this line of logic mirroring the Aussie Pigs..... weps upgrades, a homegrown recce version, extras after the Gulf War as we Americans retired ours to the boneyard. it's a great idea that deserves more than just this one posting. -
Connery, then Craig. I mean c'mon Sean Connery came back to play Bond what 15 years later?!

in service til '02? how many did the Aussies snatch up after the USAF fleet drawn down in the 90's? IRL they benefitted from some F-111Gs that were used to train on, while preserving airframe life on the C's and RF's. just food for thought there....... -

some of us have wives/girlfriends. SF is a more acceptable pasttime to them than onionbooty.com! (actually knew a warrant officer that had that as the home page of his govt. computer during Kosovo deployment in 2000.....) -
So you want to make a 3d object for Strike Fighters?
daddyairplanes replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Knowledge Base
Veltro, what i think he's saying in the very beginning of this post is that Blender made objects crossover the best with little to no distortion in the process. right now i have blender on to give this a try later and Sketchup 8 for class on my system! -
good to here the pilot's okay, their harder to replace than the aircraft........

I'm now taking a course on it but the school bookstore doesn't sell it and the cheapest student version i can find is $224 (minus the 30 trial of course). Now we will have access for schoolwork in the comp lab and i can get it with excess Pell grant monies in October. but that doesn't help me to work at home now. the two questions... 1. does anyon know of a LEGAL but cheaper copy out there? i'm basically looking for myself and 3 other students so a "loaner" copy is not quite what i'm looking for though the thought of any such offer would have been appreciated. 2. my teacher thinks projects may be able to be started in Gimp then transfered. Any comments from anyone who has worked with both programs? TIA for any help/advice you guys can give.....

actually meant to ask bout this...... it shows in dropdown menu but not in the main a/c ini. anyone else with F-4 or F-14 can confirm this? or do i need to dial up the caffeine again? and as Jedimaster said, around 11 individual skins, with both mirror paterns of Heater Ferris, overall grays for both services, TPS and Blues and Vandy 4. comes up to many when you factor in the same skins for 4 makes of Phantom...... -
