North American Shark FGA.2
daddyairplanes replied to Spinners's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
looks good but your RAF must be broke since i think even Turkey retired their Huns in the 80's. and you know the TuAF kept alot of planes past their expiration date back then -
USAF INSIGNIA ISSUE
daddyairplanes replied to Vavavava's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
make sure your decal.ini is calling insignia and not insigniaLV or some such variation. the stock insignia for USAF is red white and blue, while the others are designated inigniaLV, insignia red etc. -
they didn't hit it enough. have they forgotten how you fix things in Russian space program?

Mytai01's Exhaustive Navy/Marine F-4 Skin Download Center!
daddyairplanes replied to mytai01's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
the pack here on site is excellent but a warning- it is huge! 14GB unzipped. but along with skins and very detailed decals are many photos and historical notes, as well as each skin having a readme telling you what era/deployment that skin represents. useful even as a research tool. i think the site has some other skins not in the pack though i havent been able to check it out as well. stupid goevernment monitors think it and TW site are violent and block it! -
it's why i like SF2E. the whole game is a big what if given that particular theater stayed cold from '45 until 92(air ops over Bosnia) although for Vietnam it would have been interesting to see F-106s go into action. the comander of ADC was actually pushing for it and those efforts led to the Six getting AAR capable and a gun, as well as the bubble canopy used in its later life.

how to fly helicopters in
daddyairplanes replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
SF series 1 or 2 dont handle helicopters very well. best advise is 1. handle it like a Harrier and 2. like Wrench said lots of difficult practice. -
SF2 F-4 Loadout Mod
daddyairplanes replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
if you are using this Mod that the thread is about then you wont be able to. Malibu43 set it up as a semi historical preset loadout.ini and in RL most USAF Phantoms did not carry 'winders and bombs or AGM at the same time. they were able to( many photos to support this) but did not do it in operational practice.(most of those photos are of birds at Edwards or Nellis in testing) -
another sf2 question about fake pilots
daddyairplanes replied to krgf15's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
working on this myself the FakePilot folder itself will stay the same(it just blanks off a pilot sitting in that position.) however the item you are adding itself will have to be duplicated for each different aircraft and any different skins if the object is a different color. example i am working on, the DECM on the intakes of late model F-4J Phantoms. i have one that mppd uploaded for a F-4J_74 that uses fairly stock USNGrey1 and Grey2 skins, as well as overall gloss gull skin that is the same top color. but for low viz grey and TPS i will have to make a different DECM (F-4J_77 and _80) with the proper color on the skin of the DECM. simply copy and rename the object you are working to add for other renditions of the aircraft. also rename the object in the aircraft data.ini. hope this helps you out. -
SF2 F-4 Loadout Mod
daddyairplanes replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
true. just difference in style and time expended. idea that occurs to me is can two 'winders be loaded on the outer rails and the inside ones left empty(ala USN in the 70s and RAF in the 80s) or would the data.ini need to be tweeked for that as well? would look on my own but i'm at work fro the next 8 hours and think you'll reply back sooner -
my two favorite renditions of the Star Spangled Banner are 1. Hendrix's at woodstock, and 2. the version(with video) that played on Base theaters from 2001 til around 2006 or 7. with all the branches doin their thing and the B-2 pulling into view towards the end. if you went to a movie on an american military base in the last decade you've prob seen it. but agreed it tends to be drwan out to much lately or totally butchered. guess maybe we should start learning to sing it in schools again!

SF2 F-4 Loadout Mod
daddyairplanes replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
or you can just delete loadout[10]-[13] if you dont want it showing. its how i took mine off for strike missions. -
My first skin
daddyairplanes replied to FLOGGER23's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
also i think some radomes or at least parts of them are molded in the needed color, tho this can lead to hiccups in the supply system. i remember reading that the early F-15s had black tips on the radome when they were initially painted AS blue. but later when only the Luke based Eagles were in AS, the supply system still had many black tips and so those tips could be seen on Eagles throughout the 80's. -
Mesh name?
daddyairplanes replied to pappychksix's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
its the same mesh. just move your decal higher or make the stripe wider. -
as i said above, check the KB!! sheesh, noobs

Mesh name?
daddyairplanes replied to pappychksix's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
just use the same decal your using for the tail, name and location. but call it out on meshname=rwr_tail and it will be fine. i have used it on my USAF Phantoms making tailcodes for all the post Nam units. looks like STORMs Gen2 F-4N there that you have so i'm not sure why the skin isnt covering the RWR. just realized this is in the Gen1 thread. you may want to check out Navy Phantom Questions in the SF2 Skins and Modding forum. mppd has released a DECM addon in that thread that covers J and N models Phantoms. you will need to know how to add objects via fake pilot method to make it work and may have to adjust the location abit as it is tailored for Gen 2. but it is a real DECM pod not a paint on. -
make sure you check the knowledge base before asking how to pee!

question for Wrench and Spinners
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
sorry to call you two out specifically but you two are the most knowledgeable i know on decalling. i am working a Navy Phantom project and want to do two things with the stock F-4 skins. first, not all squadrons used the 4 digit large BuNo and i want to make a decal with a piece of the skin to cover it for those squadrons only(patch093, patch102 etc). since the 4 digit BuNo are 2 level decals can i make the patch a 3 level and cover it? question 2 and i apologize but screenies will not be avail til monday, i tried makin a radome decal(more for marine Phantoms on in the Future) with the VF-111 sharksmouth. di it on fuselage_front of the F-4J and was successful in placing it there butit blanked out the part of the skin by the canopy above the intakes. now i have seen bmp blanked before but the rescue markings are still there, only up by the canopy was blanked. 256 decal with say a 40 pixel alpha channel strip on the right of the tga. hafta check decal level again but believe it was 0. any ideas?
