Harrier Takes her final Bow
daddyairplanes replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
guess the RN can't toast "damn the french " anymore:rofl: seriously tho, some of our folks here accuse pres obama of working to destroy the country and the military . it seems your guys are much more up to the job for the UK! 12,000 jobs lost in middle of a recession, capable CAS aircraft lost when your troops are in combat, and by what i remember of one of your nuc subs, the drivers are getting certified online! -
Overall bug list for SF2
daddyairplanes replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
heres one main game related..... anyone else notice that with the mission editor, object years go out the window? Meteor F8 can go on an anti ship mission against CVA-63 or anti tank against T-72's all of which I am sure were not available in 1956! it's cool to place what you want but within a little reason here:yikes: -

Harrier Takes her final Bow
daddyairplanes replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
whats sad is that didn't you guys just finish a major upgrade on the GR9's? the platforms were bought and paid for and could have provided CAS for your troops for years to come. unlike Typhoon or Tornado the Harrier was designed for that, although admittedly expecting to operate out of clearings while engaging Soviet armor. anyone who thinks they will save more money to axe a whole fleet of planes should look up this little american program............ i believe its called the B-52! -
Since the Exp Pack 2

i realized i have been using a different flightengine ini, on i got of a thread on FPS boosting and this has been cutting down on the square effect. i say cutting down because during high FPS moments (like in the middle of an airfield attack) the prop will go square for a bit but settles back with a view change or a lessening of the action. settings are fairly high with mirrors and reflections off and shadows back and forth between high and medium but never to low. i set water texture to medium usually also. as i said d/l'd it from a thread here at CA, i believe from Dave tho not certain about that, and i dont have as many prop issuesis i have been hearing about. i got the file several months ago looking thru for ways to boost FPS on my lil Compaq Presario C700. -
wel to keep this thread moving heres one from one of the last movies to feature real aircraft.... i apologize for the violin tho realized after posting it wasn't part of the movie still a damn cool clip

Berlin Airlift
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
wondering what WIP's out there might help one complete a Berlin Airlift mod. this is being considered for Gen2 despite the current problem with props. there is C-47 stock in game now and some other birds lying around (F-80C, converted or waiting on the Gen2) and Veltro's Short Sunderland would help too. what else is out there in WIP land that would work circa 1948. (someone pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease say C-54:grin: ) -
Berlin Airlift
daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
might have been. i believe they were used for heavy loads that might've tied up runways at tegel and tempehof. some converted bombers were used to haul fuel in also. gotta find a book i had a few years back, alternate history short stories on the Cold War. first one was about "the great berlin furball"! -

@ FC exactly, goes from operation vittles to operation hot chow! though thinking more a 48 campaign than a whole new install @ silverbolt main thing i could think of for terrain is take ground objects for a WW2 terrain, and throw in alot of rubble piles and busted buildings(think the pics of the kids on the hill watchin the C-54's come in) -
Berlin Airlift
daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
well of course in our lil world one of the Soviet Yaks would've shot down rather than collided with an airlift bird. would be a good mix of WW2 (F-47D, B-29, Tempest II) and early jet age(F-80, Meteor, Vampire) for combat. Red air is still a little sketchy though as to what they had in play. pretty sure Yak-9 variants though Yak-23 and Mig-15 prototypes might've been rushed to theater in event of a shooting match. besides if you're gonna base offa was there actual shooting, SF2E becomes very boooring:grin: -

also i remember reading that they made the gripens fuel gauge to read in percent left not lbs, so as to lessen pilot workload -
Increasing speed?
daddyairplanes replied to tacoscent's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
also while not well versed in aerodynamics or FM's i do believe both of those aircraft have fixed inlets and therefore limited top speeds. with exception to the next generation bomber that is still in the designers brain pans, the worlds airforces seem to have traded max top speed for range, stealth, manueverability and precision capability(a2a and a2g). while it is fun in game to take the F-23 upto Mach 2.35 at 800 ft AGL it is not terribly realistic.(for those askin what im doin that for, ya then zoom to 101,000 ft , flip, dive and JDAM yer target like in Stealth. good times!) -

Any suggestions for converting the following Kurnass skins to SF2?
daddyairplanes replied to ace888's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
ace888 Gimp is a good program for what you seem to want to do. I have used it to transfer the old USAF Green skin from Gen 1 to Gen 2. but as has been said earlier you will need to do a buncha comparision and cut and paste in it. also it will let you work with tga files that are used for decals. it will take time (i;ve been workin it for a year and just figured out how to work layers!) but is worth it esp for the price. oh and get the tutorial for Gimp dont be stubbborn with the trail and error like me:grin: -
Some Various Questions
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
hello again. sorry for the spread but i keep forgetting some of these some others are new due to having a newly merged install. my install is SF2Vietnam and Europe. 1 when installing a terrain such as SnowyNorway, where should the catpointer go to if one doesnt have the desert terrain? default is desert.cat, i have it set for germanyCE.cat right now but with vietnam terrain being available should/would one take precedence? 2 before installing SF2V i had a stand alone SF2E that i was working on doing mostly 50's era aircraft. if i dont want the vietnam birds in there would i just remove the vietnam terrain? sorry norwegian vampires and marineflieger seahawks would just look wierd in the jungle. 3 on the F-4M_75 i am working on doing a Barley Grey skin for the later FGR2s. however the RWR box on the fin doesnt seem to get any decals or colors on it. am i missing something here? is the RWR box its own LOD? attached are two shots so you can see what i mean. the second shot is also a test in the WW2 Europe terrain in SF2. notice anything wierd about the target? again thanks for you alls help on this. i had two more questions but my memory has been shot to hell lately so i forgot them while typing these questions. oh well hopefully later -

interesting note marcfighters Mi-8, the SA-341 Gazelle from SF2 and Mi-24 i kitbashed from d/l here at CA all work good, only the Mi-8 seems to have slowed in the rotor a bit and looks really dark when looking at the ground thru the disc. -
i hate texting period, in proper english or modern abbreviated gibberish. only reason i willingly get text on a cell phone plan is because several people from work (junior and senior) can't say two words vocally, but can wear out a keypad texting. i say willingly beacause my wife thought it would be great to get me a phone with windows and internet neither of which i have used in 5 months of havin em. as to the kids, they will always find a way to speak around adults. my middle daughter was in spanish immersion for the 1st 3 years of school and she was teaching her sisters spanish to have conversations around my wife and i! if they cannot communicate anyother way than that text language then there are serious issues but if they can then they are talking round your head. and finally.... anyone wants to comment on my use of english in here tell me who ee cummings was first!

sorry no screenies realized afterwards i havent readjusted my screenshot button after installing EXP2. however of the props i currently have installed IL-10 and Pe-2 go square, Tempest II and V, Typhoon VB and A-26C all seem to act ok and Yak-9U just slowed down to where you can see the 3 props in the spinning disc. odd thing is the square prop doesn't come out except in high FPS situations tho once out it stays thru the flight. only got the Pe-2 to do it with extreme acrobatics right over the hardstand. weird -

IL-10 starts fine but goes square when action gets heavy, ie in flak or over enemy tanks. gonna try the P-51 fix on it and Tempests/Typhoon after dinner -
Which is the best dog fighter
daddyairplanes replied to carm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
for IRM if you dont want to hit anything without being at 0.0 range go AIM-9B! also alot has to do with what your looking for in game play. i am quite sure that Erich Hartmann, Gunther Rall or Galland would call dogfighting fun. much like the Red Baron himself they would advise to come up behind while the enemy is unaware blast him where your weapons cant fail to kill him and get out of there macht schnell! personally i like air to mud with the option of self defense, it's why Phantoms are so phabulous! but if ya gotta turn and burn then go for props or Sabres and Mig-15. everything between there and the Teen Series fighters wasn't designed for dogfighting and if they could use BVR weapons the pilots of the era most certainly would have -
they can move fast tho when they wanna, like the time i say one take off right at the start of a mortar attack. heard later the tower told him to hold and the pilot said F@<* youuuuuu......................... and away they went.
