  2. awesome that you have software to help those that need it however i will point out that i have been using GIMP for 10 years for my tga work, with never any issues (well non user created ones anyhow). even used it while i was still paying the subscription for Adobe as i liked it better for tga work. of courrse now its my goto for everything as it is .... free i just have to leave a pixel space from the edges, remember to turn of RLE compression the very first tga i export (each time i fire up the program that is), and in some very rare instances add an alpha channel in the transparency tab. my solution is more habits based, but i know there are many out there that seek a software based solution. not meaning to knock your project, just mentioning another way

  4. just reading this, but it is important to UNCHECK that particular box i usually leave GIMP up and running so i can work projects when i can get time in. when it does close out (because i shut my sytem down going away or MS forces an update) its one of the first things i have to check on if it doesnt show up right also when looking over youre folder of new tgas, if one of a series is much smaller than the others, open it and resave turning off RLE
  5. there is, although to the best of my recollection it calls the stock decals only straight from the CAT files. i dont recall seeing that in any mods since SF2 first came out. though it may have been tidiness rather than function while not exactly what you are looking for Gepard, most new or different nation tgas that ive seen just have the nations name in the decal folder within the mod folder. ie just "insigniaNewNation" rather than "insignia213". im sure someone else will come up with the answer, but most folks seem to take the easier route

    well what ever floats your boat. when you get cold and come back inside my advice stands. and having used both, GIMP is nearly as functional as Photoshop, but much cheaper at 0.00 dollars, euro, dinar, ruble or any other denomination you can think of but watching out of curiousity t osee what other methods/tools popup
  8. back to your question on weps packs as pointed out there is no ultimate pack. i would start with Gunnys pack (way back in the beginning of SF2 time), it is the biggest, but it acts as an executeable, so park the folder outside of an install at first many of the current weapons got their start in that pack, so after opening it up, try looking for the campaigns and installs that came after Gunnys and adding/updating as needed, then weapons packs. have a working copy to sort outside of any install, and an install to park it inside of to check out how its working. i understand both sides of the cnversation on what youre doing, having a massive squadronlist ini built up with many different squadrons and even iterations of squadrons (7th FBS, 7th FS, 7th TFS etc). after a point it does get overwhelming and you move on to other things, but you determine that point, not the rest of us saying "wow really". anyhow, just two more pennies from me heres the link to Gunnys weps pack

    why not create a general blank map then use Photoshop (if you have money) or GIMP (if you dont)? its how the rest of us do things if your talking about seeing how it looks on the model as you work, work the texture then check work in Mues LODviewer (in the download section). sounds tedious but if you have two screens, you can have the viewer on one, the program youre working on the other and refresh as soon as you export the new image. works for skin textures and decals too

  18. change Nation001 or just add another nation. not to be a kill joy, but i wouldnt hold my breath on that. no actual updates since 2013, and no talk of updates since the failed crowd fund attempt last year another hint for what you are looking for would be within the code of campaigns. when starting a campaign, it has limits on aircraft based on what service you select; no RAF Tomcats in Desert Storm! i dont know how that is managed, but realied that seems closer to what youre talking about
  19. i added an airliner nation to the airliner skins that ive done (707, 757, DC-10 and a few others) my original intent on that was to create a different formation so that multiple airliners were flying quite far apart in a line as it would be for a warzone reinforcement scenario like REFORGER. still no nuetral party or civilians in SF2, so Airliner is listed as a blue nation for now, and any terrain i want my airliner skins to show up on the ramp in i have to add that entry. my method is to skin by tga, with each airline being a serial number (000 Pan Am, 001 BOAC, 002 Lufthansa etc). so when the ini's allow, an airfield can a multitude of color on the ramp. im discussing a "Red Airliner" nation in another thread, but never got around to doing it mainly because of not working on Red airliner aircraft old screenshot to illustrate (all one skin on the ground) i was just highlighting that particular one in my response as i went to pull the first terrain nations ini i got to as an example. the first one i used just happened to have a nation i plugged in, showing what needs changed. but my airliner mods are just the big birds i've been painting up over the last few years, nothing more
  20. oks, as i read what you are trying to do( limit aircraft nations within an install), its the terrain that you need to adjust your inis in. particularly the (terrain name)_nations.ini. using the Photorealistic UK terrain as an examle [Theater] TheaterName=British Isles Location001=RAF Location002=RANGE Location003=Soviet Location004=USAF below is what you will want to play with to limit aircraft [LimitedNationList] FriendlyNation001=RAF FriendlyNation002=RoyalNavy FriendlyNation003=USMC FriendlyNation004=USAF FriendlyNation005=USN FriendlyNation006=Airliner <-------- i added this to allow my airliner mods at Heathrow EnemyNation001=Soviet EnemyNation002=RANGE you can add or subtract nations as desired, just make sure you either use the NationName as it shows in the main nations ini, or create a new entry both in the main one and the terrain nations ini but as Wrench said, renaming everything is a ridiculous amount of work, and has potential to screw up alot of mods if you were to release it. huge amount of work even if its not for release. personally, i avoid the confusion by having the themed installs, but then only putting the relevant airframes in that instal. i dont need Japanese, Korean or Saudi Eagles in an Europe based install. dont even need Israeli, but those are stock birds with a fully merged 5+2 set up good luck however you go with this
  21. it should work how you mentioned. the alibi fire on that is that the RED side i would have more of the other side airlines within the skin, and fewer in the regular Airliner nation one. but thats how i would do it kind of like the TSF skins i did on a few airliners for JonathanRL when he was still active in SF2. mostly European airlines or at least ones that would be seen in Sweden (there were a few American companies for the DC-10). but every third one was SAS, as you would expect to see more of them in Stockholm. nothing too hard, was just a matter of copy paste and rename once the originals were done. other Kev (), they look good and you should release them just for Pan Am with serials an Clipper names! there is nations entry in the skins and data ini, so i wonder if you could have the data nation as airliner, export as true, and individual nation in the textureset ini. if so, no conflict with mine with just a couple minor changes in the data ini oh and for all the Aeroflot comments above, in a SF2E wartime scenario the airliners are flying for the Soviet military not the airline. game on
  22. believing myself to be the one to create an airliner nation (esp if the start date is 1921 in what youre looking at), i think yes and no. mainly no, its set for friendly, and most of the airlines that have been done are western oriented airlines, or did business in western nations i have given much thought to doing a RED_Airline, which would cover the WARPAC airlines (Aeroflot, InterFlug). if the skin for an airliner were set to RED, it would allow that airline to operate on the other side of the Iron Curtain. or for those of us that tga the skins, have Eastern and Western airlines on the same ramp. have not done it yet as i havent worked an airliner that was mostly non Western in origin (like an Ilyushin or Tupolev bird) but i would just set it up the same but with the different name for red side. this would be the yes part but require more work than most want to put in Gepards response seems good on the surface. issue is that the airliner nation also sets up for a entry i put in the formation ini, that spaces any bigger formations out in a string. sets up for a stream of reinforcements coming in from CONUS, several thousand meters apart in a line. Wrench, as long as none of them are set as the default skins, i dont see why they wouldnt fit in with mine. i set default start dates for each "era" skln so 60s skins didnt pop up in the 80s, etc. but i do my method to have multiple airlines on a ramp like RL. (if we ever get a good Tan Son Nhut International airfield, gotta do a Nam specific skin with a couple Pan Am and Braniff tgas as opposed to the current one each)
