If you're into the A model Bug then there are skins like this on the Fist of Fleet page and also Column US. Stingray -

New IL2 game
Stingray72 replied to xclusiv8's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
IL2 was a fairly CPU friendly game. I ran it for years on an old XP custom build with only 500M RAM and a 1.4 Pentium. You dial your graphics back to medium, and really they aren't that much different from the highest settings. ~Stingray -
2008 patch for ods
Stingray72 replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You have to install the game fresh, then do the 2008 patch, then do the ODS installs as per instructed. There is an instructional document included, if you scroll down a little bit it tells you exactly what to do. I followed it and had no problems, and I am running Windows 7!! Hope this helps. ~Stingray -
AIM-9B tactics
Stingray72 replied to Siddley's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think Champion's tactic is about right for the period from what I have read. After reading about this tactic is "Scream of Eagles" I began employing it, waiting until inside of a mile and catching the bandit right before his reverse. I don't miss shots like I did before I employed this tactic, so it's worth something!! ~Stingray -
Besides Wings Over Vietnam
Stingray72 replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There's an F-14 campaign in the user made campaigns area for SF! that has some info about it too, as well as an F-18 campaign. If you wanna get sick with it go turn your WOE into the Operation Desert Storm download, it has all of the US Navy carrier planes form that time frame. Might not be quite what you are looking for, but it's pretty fun!! ~Stingray -

Mine's an easy few, and while some crappy stuff went on, these are outweighed by the good things..... -I made Surfman after three years of hard work towards the highest boat qual you can get in the USCG -I built a Chevy 350 from the ground up, she's mean as hell!! Currently working on a Buick 455 for my truck lol -I discovered this game and community, it's nice to have a good bunch of people for all of the dumb questions I have. ~Stingray

Advanced modding question
Stingray72 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Was not sure where to post this one, so I thought this would be a good spot so I don't get into trouble again from Wrench I have been farting around a little with cockpits, HUD's, avionics, and some flight model issues with the F-14A (really a visual mod activating the differential elevator on the A model). I am interested in fixing somethings on the A-10 flight model, mainly the lack of responsive pitch control. The plane does not have the rate of turn I would have expected out of a plane that can realistically put fire down on the same target roughly 8 seconds after the first pass. Also, the roll rate is a little too fast and kind of jerky when you get over 300kts. I would like to make it a little better, but don't know what each of the little sentences (?) mean, or what "dampeners" are for say pitch and roll. Is there a forum that would teach me what each string of info means, or can someone explain to me how to change these values to make them more believable? I have messed around a little bit with the F-16 with some success, but really I am just changing stuff and seeing where it leaves me. I would much rather know what I am changing and how it will affect the flight model each time, take the guess work out of it somewhat. Thank you for all who help! ~Stingray -
Advanced modding question
Stingray72 replied to Stingray72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks, good info. I knew it was whacky lol. I just read a book about the A-10 crowd in Desert Storm, and all who wrote in said that she can move like no other down low, as in NOTHING WILL BEAT IT IN A TURN FIGHT. While I appreciate even having this plane, especially since MiG Buster and my good friend Cliff made a sweet hometown MD ANG skin for me, but it would seem that some attention would have gone into this. I will work on it and if I get it to where it is acceptable I will post the improved model in the planes downloads section. Of course I will give credit to Gerwin and Fubar for actually doing the work, just not posting it. ~Stingray -
Advanced modding question
Stingray72 replied to Stingray72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes, I see that lol, but it is a little jerky, and if you hold it on it's a little fast. What about the pitch then? You can plainly see that in his roll and pull the nose whips right around, and the model here just does not. It's not a matter of gravity dragging, the nose just does not respond like it should. -
Yeah, I was also thinking the 109. It for sure was produced in greater numbers than any other fighter a/c in WWII, and it fought in combat longer than any other plane as well. ~Stingray

No one noticed that Goldy was unable to hear the dog whistle. Sadly, she was killed by a train in Mudchute some years later.

Whoa about WoE...
Stingray72 replied to cgold's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I was getting that oo, and as soon as I patched it up the game stopped acting like that. WOI and WOE both did it for me initially. Maybe it had to do with my opsys, I'm running W7. ~Stingray -
Um, lol, it reminds me of that monster from the Simpson's movie, all those eyes....... ~Stingray

a10boar, are you here Sir?
Stingray72 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi there! I tried to reach you via pm but it said you were unable to receive messages there. I am writing to ask for permission to include a skin you tweaked to another mod I made for the F-16B. What I did was take the F-16B and changed a bunch of stuff to make it more believable in flight, slowed the roll rate and such, I also added a stall horn and made an adjustment to the controls and how they operate. I wanted to include your skin with my mod because I thought it was the coolest one around for the Viper, the 180th OH ANG skin with the big ol' hornet on the tail. I will wait and include it after you tell me it's ok, and if you want me to not include it then I will leave it out when I put the mod up. It will be a few weeks because I am at work for the next few weeks, and I also need to get permission from the rest of the gang before I go ahead with this too. Thank you! ~Rob -

Need another ruling.....
Stingray72 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
So I need another ruling on a plane mod...... I made a few mods to Viggen's F-16B for WOI. I flew it as advertised and decided to make some fixes. Having done so I want to post the adjusted a/c. I asked this question a few weeks ago and didn't get a solid answer, so here it is again: Having fixed some stuff on the F-14, like elevons on the A model since all F-14's had them, and changed the pitch and roll values on the F-16B to make them more believable, can I post these aircraft as fixed projects that someone else started assuming I give credit where it is due? I am fairly new to the SF community (a year or so) and have just gotten started on fixing some of the flight model type stuff for personal use BUT I do want to share the fixes with people who are interested. Being new I don't know what the rules are regarding this particular kind of stuff, although I have seen some fixes, like elevons on the F-14D that Aleckx fixed. Do you just make the changes to the values and post them as fixed, or do you contact the originators of the planes and ask them if you can post the fixes you have made? I will be away from the computer for a week after tonight, so if someone can get back to me by tonight sometime (I'm west coast USA) then I can upload or begin the email chain!! Thanks for the help! ~Rob -
FNG or should I say FOG needs help
Stingray72 replied to OldSoldier's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi! I'm not the best at this, but here's what I have learned: 1) download desired plane 2) open the rar folder or ZIP file. In it you will have an assortment of folders, some different form the rest, but all of them seem to have the following - an aircraft file; this will go into your Root (root being SF or WOE or WOI whatev folder)> Objects> Aircraft Put her there pal, it should be a bunch of a/c folders with pilot stuff on the bottom. 3) Put the rest of the folders in the prescribed places, ie, if it is an effect, go put that one in your Root>Effects, or say it's an afterburner sound then Root>Sounds folder. 4) Go test it out. I rarely have problems with the planes themselves, only if weaps are involved. The planes will work. If you would like to know how to get them to come up on a campaign then hit me on the PM and I will explain that one too. Another thing, download the data.cat extractor tool, it will help you out, and again, I can help you with that one too if needed. Good luck!!!! ~Rob -
What Squadron's CAG Bird is this?
Stingray72 replied to TheStig's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I would agree with the Royal Maces too. Here's link, I was looking for this bird but didn't find it, there are LOTS of pics. http://miyf27.com/index.php Enjoy! ~Stingray -
I was looking for a funny F-4 quote for the suspect ugly plane thread I didn't start but did at the same time, and found this...... "Another time, we were about fourth in a long queue waiting to take off in our larger Boeing aircraft. The JFK ATC allowed a B737 on a local flight to take a short-cut and start his takeoff run by joining the main runway from a taxiway causing us to wait for him to take off and clear. "How do you like them apples?" he said on local VHF as he started his takeoff run. Boeing aircraft had a warning horn for major problems that you can test. Half-way along the B737's takeoff run, 'someone' held their cockpit mike to the horn and pressed it as they tested it. The B737 abruptly stopped takeoff with full reverse and full braking and shuddered to a halt, tires (tyres) smoking. A few seconds later we heard a voice on our VHF: "How do you like them apples?.." I've seen a few of these funny stories, but this one takes the cake so far away form the party it had to be canceled..... ~Stingray

F-14 change possibly?
Stingray72 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi all!! I have a question. I downloaded the F-14D by Typhoon, and also the tweak for it by Aleckx. The flight model with the elevators acting dual as ailerons is a great addition. Now, is this a standard feature on all the F-14's? Wondering because I fixed my stock MF A model to have the same feature to it, I just kinda copied and pasted that portion of the data.ini into my A data.ini and Viola! I had a nice rolling F-14A. So my question is can I post that on here if it is really like that in real life for the A as well? I would like to, but only if it is accurate (if not I will also change my A back to stock), and only if that is something I am allowed to do as I don't want to step on anyone's business with an airframe change like this, even a minor one. I know Aleckx did it to Typhoon's D, but did he have to get expressed permission to change it and then post it? Or can I just, at a minumum, upload jst the F-14A data.ini I made? ~Stingray -
F-14 change possibly?
Stingray72 replied to Stingray72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
FC, thank you. I hadn't realized that he had said "differential", I thought it said "different" and went and found the answer in a video old enough to only have been F-14A's. So can I post the fix on the downloads page or am I overstepping a boundary somewhere? ~Stingray -
F-14 change possibly?
Stingray72 replied to Stingray72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Ok, does that mean that the F-14A's elevators did not help roll the plane like they do in the D? -
Did I catch a "schmutz" in there almost? Yep, that's Portland. That guy was pretty funny~~
