  1. Still would love a link to the WOR..... ~Rob
  2. I'm sorry, but where do we get the whole WOR download? I am an avid IL2 gamer and would love to see how this stacks up!!! ~Stingray
  3. Here's some screenshots from the last two missions. I don't want everyone to think I am a loser, but I have 10 vacation days, and some of them inevitably are going to be spent right here.... Also, 2nd LT Zach Sanders was killed on his second mission by a MiG. MUY FRUSTRADO!!!!
  4. Century Wings F-14 and A-6

Hey, I gotta ask, is the A-6 one of the ultra rare Revell A-6's in 1:48???? I have two of them and I am terrified to build them since they are irreplaceable lol.
  5. Right, so I think I am getting better at the format, although I am missing some info, sorry guys, still trying to get the hang of it. On a sadder note, 2nd LT Seth Campbell was shot down and killed last night by a SAM site. I have a question concerning manual flight. Are we allowed to use auto pilot during our transits? I used it today while I got some coffee mid flight and wondered out loud if I was breaking a rule, so I though I would ask. The rest of the flight was completed with me guiding the a/c, but after I thought about it wondered again why we wouldn't be able to since it is a real function of the a/c. Need a ruling on this please..... So, new pilot, 2nd LT Zach Sanders, callsign "Tex" (he's from Texas, another friend from work), flying with the 16 TFS "Tomahawks" Sept 1979: Mission: Chevy flight of four to patrol around Hamburg, attack any planes encountered. Armament: Cannons and Aim-9 missiles Take Off: I forgot to get the a/f and time I left from..... Landing: Same as above, but it was the same a/f. AAR: Enroute target area 02 MiG-23's were spotted on radar flying to the SE approximately 130T. It was along our flight path more or less, so we broke from our intended track to engage. I shot down one, my wingman, Lt Dan White, shot down the other, both with missiles. When we neared the target area there were lots of contacts on the radar. Red Crown was indicating heavy enemy air traffic as well as a flight of A-10's, Austin flight, who reported they needed assistance. We again left our intended track to head north to assist. Two MiG-21's were encountered. My wingman shot down one with a missile. I hit the other with a missile and my wingman finished him off with guns. We succeeded in breaking up the attack and noted Austin flight heading out of the target area to the SW towards friendly lines. I spotted a radar contact flying E along a river and decided to leave the target area towards home and pick up our WP, roughly a 160T. After around 05 mins I heard that familiar tone "beep beep beep". The was nothing on the map and nothing on the scope so I assumed maybe it was a gun from the target area and paid no mind to it, turning on my ECM. Red Crown also advised that there was no activity in the area. When the tone became the rapid "d d d d d d d " I deployed flares and chaff, broke low and right, picked up an SU-15 visually, and ordered my flight to attack. I picked up the missile he had fired and headed at a right angle to it, then broke into it and up, breaking it's lock (not sure whether it was heat seeking or radar guided). This plane was going over 700 mph when it flew over me!! I pulled into a tight turn and got a lock with my Aim-9's, firing one and scoring a hit from a little over a mile out. I visually targeted a second one just as Chevy 3, Capt. Doug Wilkinson destroyed it with a missile. I believe now that the blip flying E along the river was actually these two a/c, they must have spotted my ECM and gave chase. All planes landed safely back at home base. Lt. Dan White is the squadron's highest scoring MiG killer, with 4 to his name now after this mission!! I will use him sparingly because I don't want to lose him lol. Chevy 01: 1 a/a with Aim-9 Chevy 02: 2 a/a with Aim-9 1 a/a with guns Chevy 03: 1 a/a with Aim-9 Chevy 04: 0 a/a Total of 04 bandits down with no losses. Signed: 2nd LT Zach Sanders I'll get times and such for the next one!! I was very lucky with the two SU's, it could have gone the other way just as easily as it went the way it did. I need to be more careful in the future and follow up on radar contacts, as well as learn to trust my threat warning receivers. ~Stingray
  6. Three Roses *Not suitable for Kids*

Yeah, but he still can't get it every night. I mean, how's he going to reach them?
  7. Yes, so 2nd LT Robert Mantell requested and was granted a transfer to the Maryland ANG, the A-10 squadron from his home state..... Mr. Mantell flew his first mission in the A-10 and performed well!! The mission was to take off in the early morning and head to the target area to repel a tank attack. This was successful, but some MiG's came down and spoiled the celebration. We encountered 6 total, one flew into the ground, I shot two of them down, and the rest buggered off. We did lose two of our Hogs though, a sad day, even though the mission was deemed a success by HQ. I will work on my format here for the next post and also try to get some sort of photo thing going too. I took a nice still of my A-10 on final wearing my Maryland ANG colors! ~Stingray
  8. Yes, I for sure am one of the "downloaders" lol.
  9. Cater, Thank you sir!!! yes, the A-7 is a blast! I did, as you saw, get shot down, so my piot there is a POW until further wars. I have started another pilot, other than myself. I used my best friend's name, Seth Campbell, to fly the CF-18 in a campaign. So far he is doing better than I am!!!! There is another I am going to start, the A-10 campaign with the MD ANG. I am from MD and used to run in my yard following the A-10's; their landing approach was right over my house! MiG and Cliff helped me with some great skins for this plane so I figure to make a good run at it! ~Stingray
  10. Well, that didn't take long at all lol. Take off was normal. I reached cruising altitude and headed towards the target, a fuel tank. When I got within 7 miles I launched a Shrike to take out the radar at the base. My missile performed as advertised and I was able to make a smooth pass at the tank farm, destroying it with two of my 12 MK-82's. My squadron egressed along the track line provided. Along the way we passed a SAM site and decided (I decided) that we would take it out. I made three successful passes on the radar and missile launcher sites, but had my engine shot out when I made a gun run at some AAA. I flew dead stick for a few miles hoping to get clear of enemy forces and evade capture, but was spotted on bail out, my chute giving away my position. I was immediately captured and am now sitting in my cell. See you next war :( ~Stingray I will set up another one lol.I do have questions though. How do I load up a screenshot? It says that I can't. also, how do I take a screenie of the debrief screen? I tried to do so with the print screen button but had no joy. I have since started a new one. 2nd LT. Robert Mantell (my real name), call sign Taxman, is flying F-16's with 313th. My first mission went well, 2 enemy planes down on a fighter sweep mission, both with aim-9's. I think I will start a few more.......most fun!!! Currently "Taxman" has two missions underneath him, with 2 A/A kills and 3 A/G kills not too shabby lol....
  11. Yes, good info. I have a fairly new computer with a dual core processor and was wondering why my computer was running the game a little slower than I would have guessed it would. It might have something to do with that eh? I did have some graphics issues when I installed the 2008 patches on all three games and had to lower my settings to make them work smooth. I think I will try to make a switch to SF2 the next time I get to sit around for a few days. My question: is there is much cool stuff for SF2 somewhere hidden? I have some pretty cool expansion packs/skins/mods for SF1 and will certainly miss it lol. ~Stingray
  12. I admit that I did not read every post on this thread (c'mon, there's 24 pages lol) but I like what I have seen. I think it is a cool idea, and have thought about it a few times but never tried it out. I am going to start two new ones for myself and jump on the wagon with y'all. I need to figure out where screenies are kept though.....(help!!) Ok, first up, 2nd LT Cory Wadley, flying A-7D's in the 74th TFS "Flying Tigers". I'll post more when I get started!! Haven't decided on a name yet for the second one, but he will be an Isreali F-4 pilot flying with the Hammers. I have a custom skin for that squadron form my good buddy Cliff. thanks Pal!! ~Stingray
  13. You know, I am really glad someone asked the question about the advantages of SF2. I have been wanting to ask and never think to do it while I am banging away in here. MiG, I have a W7 machine that seems to run the SF1 series fine, er, for the most part. Generally speaking when something is up it is my fault. Others, like the canopy on the F-84 staying open in flight, are bugs of sorts that are either third party mistakes or machine faults. That said, I look at you post and am wondering "why even fart around with SF1 anymore?" It seems like there is a lot more stuff available for SF2 at this point, but you know me and detail right? I am basing this off of the skins folders for the planes and comparing them to the ones for SF1. Am I missing something maybe? ~Stingray
  14. "Ok, lemme have it from the beginning. " "Well, first there were dinosaurs, and they died and made oil...." Sweet Airplane reference Wrench, well played Sir!! ~Stingray
  15. Thank you all for replying and helping. MiG, I did get it to work, and you were right on that one. I had two seperate folders, and while I was playing the .exe for one with most of my mods, the NF updates were going to another one who's .exe was not on my destop. I went and scrubbed WOE entirely from my comp, reinstalled letting go where it wanted to and did the same when installing NF again. I have 1,2,and 3 installed no problem. Not sure what I am waiting for for NF 4, I'll get to it though. I put an F-4G download into my WOV and ran it, the flight model SEEMS similar. That said MiG, you know me, I am not quite the detail hound that you seem to be so maybe it is better (compliment, not a shot at you). It is wildly different to me than the stock Phantoms, the roll seems real slow compared to the E and J models. To me both of these are slow rollers until you get them fast, then they are real fun to fly, the G seems to kind of wallow, coupled with an pretty touchy pitch control so that when I try to reverse and use rudder to help it over fast, it kind of pitches up or down rapidly slowing me down a lot, I also tried the old trusty trick of rolling the same direction I was already turning to revers even faster and almost hit that really thick air at zero alt. Maybe the G was a pig in real life, that I don't know. I flew the A-7D, and man is that thing fun as heck!! SLUFF!!! Has anyone else had this treat? MF did a great job with that one, and I had a most enjoyable flight in the crappy soup over Germany. I am really loving the NF series after having gotten it straightened out.
  16. Dang, flamed by MigBuster lol, Good points Mig, thanks, I had totally forgotten about the SR-71 and when it was designed. The Phantom nor anything else could touch it in speed. As for Gocad, not so much Sir. Read some books about Top Gun. You will find that the Crusaders were enjoying the friendly dogfights for a long time. After the Navy figured out how to make the Phantom do it's thing, they more or less stopped winning. ~Stingray
  17. We lose another air warrior

Very sad that we are losing more and more of real heroes, one like Bud Mahurin and Robin Olds, each year. It is inevitable, but no less sad. Mr. Mahurin thank you for what you did while you were with us, and know that you will always be remembered. ~S Stingray
  18. Hi guys and ~S I wanted to share something with you guys. I have had a book in my posession for a number of years and recently re-read it after I got into WOV. The book is called "The Scream Of Eagles", and it is about the start of Top Gun. It is not only a fantastic book, but it details a lot of things about the Phantom that are put in a way that is easy to understand. the content comes from the mouths of great Phantom drivers such as Mel Holmes and "Mugs" McKeown. -Some of the things I learned wer manuevers that the F-4 could do that MiGs could not -Capabilites of the MiGs -Missile envelopes -Proper altitude and speed for carrier landings -How to keep energy in the F-4 Look, I know some of this stuff is already known. Heck, I thought I knew a lot, but this book kind of puts it in a fighter pilots jargon, a sort of easy to understand, and the coolest thing is you can put the book down, pick up the game, and watch it translate. I have gotten a lot better at fighting MiGs because of it, and missle shots are becoming childishly easy for the radar shots, and have gotten way better at heat seeker shots. simple crap, like did you know the AIM-7 won't work inside of a mile and a half? In game, same thing lol, it used to make me crazy when I would have the "in range" light and my missile would not track and just fly into the ground. Now I get it lol. Some of the older heads around here know all of this stuff, so it's not for them, but for us newer folk, check this book out. I just sent a copy to Cliff and he agrees that it helps, and he's only had the book for 2 days!! ~Rob
  19. I kind of took what I read on here, what I have seen on t.v. or read in books, and what I have experienced on here..... Some of you might have seen my posts, I am a die hard Phantom Phan. The Best - let's just go all encompassing here: I vote for the Rhino. For her time she was the most capable fighter around in most regards, the short coming being turning, but just like in all the other wars it wasn't prudent to fight your enemies fight, you made him fight yours; the government restricted the bejesus out of our boys in Vietnam, so the real capabilities of the F-4 were not used as designed, but when they were deadly. Nothing could bomb better in the daylight better than the F-4, it had the toss bombing function that could put iron on target as well as any pilot could manually, proven over and over again by pilots who thought they could beat the system; most of the ones were hmbled, only the hard heads or idiots really believed they could do better themselves. There was no faster recce bird, no faster or more capable FAC jet, no better all weather capable fighter IN THE WORLD, and only three planes in our inventory that could do better at night. When she first arrived nothing could touch her, and when the Navy figured out how to really fly her the Crusaders were beaten mercilessly over and over again to their surprise. With the F-15 and F-14 coming online she was relagated to strictly reserve duty, recce, or WW missions, but dang, she did those well into the 90's. How many countries flew this plane? How many are still flying it? The military channel top ten gave her #2 behind the Mustand, but the Mustang was not as overall capable as the F-4, and if you want to compare combat records then fine, yes the F-4 is not doing as well as the, I dunno, the F-15 or F-14, but you have to look at the decade they were flown in, the planes they were fighting, and the training involved. After the Navy figured out how to fly her they sat on an 11:1 kill ratio, and with a superb electronincs suite it would have / could have been better. Not everyone who flies or has flown the F-4 is as well trained as the guys who stood up Top Gun, but all of the F-15 pilots are the absolute best that either the US or Israel can field. I want to also argue against the Mirage, and not because I hate her; she's a great plane with a nice combat record. I love the thought of a real stick and rudder plane, and another comes to my mind: A-4. If someone had stuck an afterburner in the Scooter it would have run circles around the Mirage. The fact is that no one did so we are debating about it instead. As far as the future goes, the Bug is looking pretty good. If the US can keep the F-18 around for as long as the F-4 was around then there might be a battle coming up on here again in a few years. the plane has been around for a good while now though, close to 30 years lol, unbelieveable. This, of course, is only my opinion, and I am not near as knowledgeable as some of the others on here. Very fun topic, and thank you for providing it!! ~Stingray
  20. Hey Mig and everyone else!! I haven't encountered this one yet, so I thought I would ask. I have Windows 7, have WOE / WOI installed, and went to reinstall my WOV but when I try to patch it it says that it can't find the path, even if I try to manually enter it when prompted. Any clues? ~Stingray
  21. Hi all, I put out a request a few months ago for an A-10 skin, but got no reply or takers. Thought I would try again. The stock campaign for WOE has the MD ANG squadron on the list. I am from MD and used to watch these specially painted Hogs come over my house on final. I was wondering if someone could make a skin for me to properly represent the home squadron since the game saw fit to leave off our state flag that is supposed to be on the tail fins. Here's some picture links: http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd9/Holloman-2007/IMG_3535a.jpg This is what the stock skins look like. I am looking for these in gray and camo: http://www.wolverhamptonaviationgroup.co.uk/images/tripp51gathering-a-10_78-0682.jpg http://www.internetmodeler.com/2001/may/new-releases/2bob_a-10_decal.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/24310206@N05/2755081984/ http://www.tankkiller.com/squadrons/104/MDANG.jpg If someone could please hok me up that would be awsome. Thank you!! ~Stingray
  22. MigBuster, I used my new and improved A-10 skins to beat the bejesus out of some tanks and such, also some AAA. I was a little ashamed to say that I did bang it up a lttle bit, but made it home safe and sound. These skins are both simply AMAZING!! It's seems like such a small request maybe, but being from Maryland and living a few miles from the strip where these guys are home based it's a huge deal to me. Not too many of us from Maryland it seems lol. I just wanted to say thank you very much to you Mig, and also to my pal Cliff who made a prelim skin, both of which I use now. You both are wonderful representatives of this community and have done a pretty special thing for me. ~Rob
  23. A door is closing...

It is sad to think that no one cares enough of their country's or families past to just go and look for a few moments at what was accomplished, but it is also in part because of how popular the knowledge is. I recently read about a French ace who flew Yak-3's with that squadron, and he was a bad MF!! I had never heard of him, nor this squadron until then, and I like to think of myself as fairly well rounded in WWII aviation. Are there any nooks about this squadron that one could recommend? This kind of reminds me of something in the USA, Wisconsis actually, the birthplace of one Richard Bong. There is a sign in his hometown, they call it the most stolen sign in America lol. I forget axactly what is says, but the word "Bong" is on it and pretty attractive to discrespectful college asses. ~Stingray
  24. Afganistan, stand by for incoming.... HOLY CRAP THAT IS AWSOME MiG!!!!!! How did you do it? Those are absolutely georgeous, and I am so happy to see them. Please tell me what I need to do to get them!! ~Rob
