Iran Claims
Mike1 replied to pablo499's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It sort of worked...... If you get a copy of "Iranian F-14 Tomcat Units in Action" by Tom Cooper and Farzad Bishop from Osprey Publishing, it goes in to some detail about the trials. (Hurriedly nips upstairs to get book.....) According to this, it says that the IRIAF could only fit the HAWK to the shoulder pylons. The trials were carried out by the 82nd TFS at Khatami AB (Now Shahid Babei AB, I think), the team including 3 Israeli technicians who had previously worked on a similar project for the IDF/AF. It would appear that although the missile (named Sedjil in it's new Air-To-Air role) could be used, the datalink between the MIM-23 and the Tomcat's AWG-9 radar was very weak, primarily due to incompatability. The project was abandoned after the Iran-Iraq War concluded. Hope that's of some use! Mike. :) P.S. That Israeli project involved using the AGM-78 Standard to make the IDF/AF's F-4's capable of taking out the high-flying Mig-25 and Tu-22. It was subsequently cancelled after the Israelis received the F-15 armed with the AIM-7F. -
New Terrain
Mike1 replied to Mike1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks for the response guys! It'll take me a while to do as I'm not the fastest of workers - I started this in November! The plan is to do a basic target set (Airfields and targets of interest in the cities and ports), with probably a pre 2003 frontline so that Iraq and Iran are the "Enemy" side, with Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE as the "Friendly" side (enemy and friendly being subjective of course! ;) ) In addition shipping and land routes will be set up for antiship and armed recon missions. What I think may be the best way of doing a campaign would be to tailor the target set to suit. The campaigns that could be done are: An upgraded Iran/Iraq, Desert Storm Operation Telic ;) Iran 200? and also the Iraq/Kuwait crisis from the 60's - gives a nice setting for the Victorious! As for the Osiraq strike.... erk, I only went as far as Iraq's western border! Sorry! :blush2: Status at the moment is trying to figure out the target set for the UAE. I'm still gathering info on that, then it's onto placing the objects at the major targets. Mike. :) -

New Nations.INI for SFP1 & WOV. --------------------------------------------- Description: SFP1 has a default of 74 nations in the Nations.INI which covers all the "Usual Suspects" for aerial warfare Post-1945. Although lot of the world is covered, there are a few gaps. Most of the South American Air Forces are missing, as are the smaller forces from Asia, the Middle East and Northern and Southern Africa. Adding in various air forces has brought the number of flyable countries up to 150. This total includes most of the African, Central and South American air arms that were missed in the original game. In addition, Laos and Cambodia have been added to round out the countries involved in the Vietnam War. Finally, the majority of the countries that emerged after the break-up of the USSR and Warsaw Pact have been added. In addition to more "Real World" air forces, I have added Dhimar and Paran to the list, as well as activating the Mercenary entry for Single Mission use. I have also added the WW2 entries created for Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Imperial Japan and Stalinist Russia originally created by ArmourDave, Charles and Wolf257 and used with their permission. In addition I have added the Imperial Japanese Navy and Manchukuo (Puppet State Manchuria) as additional choices. A new LOADOUTSCREEN.BMP and LOADOUTSCREEN.INI are included. These are based on the game's original files and have the TextureSetList, InsigniaList and SquadronList entries lengthened to accomadate some of the longer Air Force Names. As a result these two files are NOT compatible with the Loadout screens with Kout's replacement menu sets. Mixing these files will result in strange results on the LOADOUTSCREEN ONLY. This addon is also compatible with Charles' Medal Packs - thanks Charles for the reminder! :-) --------------------------------------------- As to what's in the release, please refer to the GIF files inclosed. I've also included some TGA's of the various titles unsplit to make decal placement easier. Finally, there are also two "African Mig-21MF" skins included. These are just the default skin "Matted" up and given Tanzanian and Madagascan markings. They are based on Profiles by Tom Cooper from the "African Migs" series of articles on the www.acig.org site. --------------------------------------------- Installation. Simply drop the Nations.INI into your /FLIGHT folder in your SFP1/WOV install. The LOADOUTSCREEN.BMP and LOADOUTSCREEN.INI go in the /MENU folder. The various FinFlash, Insignia, NationName, USAir and USForce TGA's go in the OBJECTS/AIRCRAFT folder. The two skin sets go in the OBJECTS/AIRCRAFT/MiG-21MF folder. --------------------------------------------- Any feedback and comments would be welcome and can be posted at the SimHQ and CombatAce forums. -

Thanks BUFF! It must be my sloooowwwww computer that's the problem then! Yep. 1409 is the same as 1411, so I've deleted that one myself It was an earlier version, so I tried uploading with a shorter name to see if that made any difference. Also I got a message when I logged in saying that the RRAF Canberra file submission was denied? I take it that was because the link I supplied didn't work? Anyway I've deleted the link myself, so that should cure that! This is all new to me, so I guess I'll be bumbling about for a wee while yet!!! Mike.

Hi all! I'm having a similar problem to Geg. I've tried uploading a 3+ Meg skin from my computer, but although it seems to upload, it freezes before it gets onto the page saying uploaded succesfully. I'm on dial-up, so it takes 10-15 minutes max to upload/download anything. Could the upload be timing out? I've checked the my files section and it's registered all the times I've tried uploading, but the files aren't there. Any help or advice would be appreciated! Mike. :)

Skin for the Canberra B.2 model by Ahmed Junaid Raza (ajunaidr). Skin plates based on his originals. Canberra B.2 of No.5 Squadron, Republic of Rhodesia Air Force, 1970's. Hi guys! Is it possible for the F-105G and F models to be posted as separate downloads? I'm asking because my ISP has a 2 hour time limit and I'm on dial-up, so 55Megs is beyond what I can download in one sitting. I can't use a download manager either as i the last time I used one it neffed my computer. Awesome work, and looking forward to flying them! Mike. :)

@AD and Sundowner!
Mike1 replied to Mike1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for the heads-up AD! Mike. :) -
I not long downloaded the SLUF from downloads section and I was wondering if there is a specific fix for this aircraft? I've searched through the SimHQ archive and found that the problem relates to Sp3 changing how the undercart works. I've tried playing about with the undercarriage values in the A-7D_Data.INI file, but with not much succes. I can limit the bounce a bit, but the aircraft still veers to the left as it takes off when the AI is in control. Can anyone give me some pointers? I'd really like to understand what I'm doing as well, so any help would be greatly appriciated! Thanks, Mike.
