I believe the developers of this WW1 flight sim, (and other such sims), have and continue to work towards getting it "right". But then these are sims, and by their very nature will never be able to give you the same feel that actual flying does. I know the UL's I've flown, while having the same basic three-axis controls as the sims, don't "feel" anything like them. Plus, until you can fully integrate the "Oh my God, I'm gonna die now!" element that can creep into a hinky landing or a sudden and unexpected change in flight parameters whilst you are airbourne, it's never really going to be the same. I mean, I have yet to see anyone NOT get up and walk away from the computer after corkscrewing themselves into the dirt from 1'000+ feet up. That being said, OFF is still an outstanding WW1 flight sim. Cheers! Lou

Thanks for the kudos British_eh and Red-Dog, and a big thanks to Siggi for placing me on the DiD roster. I had a horrified moment just a bit a go though when I thought I'd lost it all due to a "Run time error 13" related to Cmdr. Albertson's campaign, but I have it sorted out now and all is well, (I had amended his enlistment date to reflect his joining up right after the outbreak of the War and it had worked fine with that change until I'd made another pilot active to fly a practice night bombing mission). Yes British_eh, I believe one of the reasons I've lasted as long as I have in this campaign is due in part to the relative lack of hostile air activity. Although my flight and I did just chase two Boche B/R planes all over the sky for an hour in an attempt to put a few rounds into them, but to no avail as they had both the alt and the speed on our old buses. C'est la guerre. We live to fight another day at the virtual front. Cheers! Lou

Hello All, From time to time I will get the following error message when trying to activate an existing pilot on my poster, Run-time error:'13' Type Mismatch If I delete all my pilots it goes away but I currently have the longest lasting DiD pilot of my career and I'd rather not have to put him on the "Permanently Disabled" list and start all over. I had created another pilot to fly some practice missions with this morning and when I attemted to switch back to my DiD pilot I got the error message. I have already deleted the other pilot, but it did not fix the issue. Any help with this one would be much appreciated. Thanks Lou

Ah, I've sorted it out. I had gone into my pilot's dossier and amended his enlistment date to reflect his joining up on August 28, 1914, (he's the patriotic type and had signed on shortly after the outbreak of the War). The change worked fine until I had made another pilot active, after which I could not re-activate my first pilot without getting the error code. All I had to do was change the enlistment date back to what it had be from the git-go and all was well. And now you know...the rest of the story. Cheers! Lou

Very neat Rabu, thanks for your continuing work on this project. I have been trying out your current maps in my missions as I have them all printed out and sitting at my flight station. I love flying by map and compass, and have been having some success with it in OFF. But I have to really stay watchful that I don't lose sight of known landmarks for any length of time or I can find myself quite promptly lost, at which point I end up doing exactly what our WW1 heros did, fly west in a straight line until something below hopefully matches up with something on my map, (or if you are of the Hun persuasion, fly east). And of course if all that fails we do have the luxury of the 'M' key, ('M' standing for "Mama take me home"). Cheers! Lou

Excellent videos Olham, thanks for sharing Sir. And they do indeed illustrate how much homework went into the OFF plane skins. Also, that DR1 pilot was very lucky he did not do more damage to that beauty when the crosswinds got under his bus. CW landings are NO fun in a light aircraft of any kind. Cheers! Lou

So far, Sqd Cmdr Albertson has been hospitalized three times for various mishaps, lost one plane ina crash, had to land in a field once due to engine trouble, and this morning actually hit two hangers from 7'000' feet during an aerodrome bombing mission! He is now a DiD/W veteran. Cheers! Lou

He, he...excellent observations about mistyped words and overstrikes and written corrections and such. A few tea stains would help add to the authenticity as well tttiger. Heck, a beer spill or two would be even better. However, I have it on good authority that they refer to Commander Albertson's Adjutant as MISTER Anal Retentive. Cheers! Lou

tttiger, the point is not to try and copy one , but rather to have a clean and historically accurate form in electronic format that one can use to create his or her own air combat reports, if one chooses to do so. But thanks for posting Roy's report on his famous encounter...very cool! Cheers! Lou
